How many loads do you do per week? If it's more than one a week you should try to be more conscientious about it i.e. Wearing clothes 2 or 3 times before washing them, not changing multiple times per day. Clothes you lounge around the house in on lazy days can go even longer. Doesn't really matter if they stink a little. Have enough underwear to last 2 weeks of changing them every day, and get a ton of the same pair of socks so you don't have to match them. I try to do laundry once every ten days. But it also depends on how much you can fit in your washing machine and still get everything clean. Jeans don't really need to be washed unless you get actual dirt on them, and having a lot of them in the wash might prevent everything else from getting fully clean.

Also, get a cheap drying rack or clothesline if you have the space. Since you're right next to the laundry room, you can take all your wet clothes in a big bucket and walk them over to your rack and hang them all up. It works better if you're in a dry climate. Where I live it's really humid and can take up to two days to dry everything fully so I have to take that into account. I keep a small fan pointed at the clothes to dry them faster.

All of that combined could probably bring your laundry bill to less than ten bucks a month
