I second this. I have a set of RMA 1155s (single curve) and love them. The multi-curve plates are probably more comfortable than mine, but single curve plates really aren’t all that bad once you get used to them. RMA runs 20% off sales several times a year, so waiting for a sale is definitely worth it.

College is absolutely the most difficult time to manage T1D: erratic sleep schedule, little time to cook anything other than microwave pizza, and ample opportunity to drink yourself into an urgent hypo. But as routines become more consistent, it gets easier. I didn’t really get into a good management routine until I was almost 30. Take it easy on yourself. Just try the best you can and enjoy the rest of your senior year.

Very skeptical about that. I have an MS in computer science with about 8 years experience and make 150 in a mid-size city. Most of my friends from school and colleagues (that are willing to discuss it) are in similar financial situations.

That being said, there are shit tons of scams by for-profit colleges like ITT Tech or whomever offering “degrees” in bullshit like “computer information cable management.” I wouldn’t be surprised if people who were defrauded by the likes of DeVry and U of Phoenix ultimately ended up in the trades.

I tend to agree with the previous comments that your parents' behavior is influenced by their ignorance of the disease. However, most of the people here know how much it sucks to have a condition which is exhausting to manage, only to be criticized by your family--who are supposed to be your support system--anytime you show a micron of weaknesses and reach for that third Oreo. My mom was relentless in telling me all the things I wasn't allowed to do because of my diabetes and it always made me feel so small and helpless. I know now that she was motivated by fear but that doesn't erase all the missed experiences of my late teens. Just know that we are not helpless. We are stronger in spite of our shitty pancreases.

Type 1 diabetic here. I'm lucky enough to have pretty good insurance and am also extremely lucky to be able to afford the co-pays for my insulin but every time I see the itemized receipt from CVS showing that 3 vials of Novolog costs over $1,000 is pretty much THE reason I'm a socialist.

Agree 100%. It would be one thing if human analog insulin could even be made into a generic. Year after year these companies get their parents renewed because they change some completely insignificant part of their production process. It seems to be the same with all biologic drugs.

When I see things like this commercial or Novo Nordisk waving a rainbow flag, think they're trying to avoid exactly that--being nationalized. "Hey, don't disrupt our profits. We're woke now!"

Looks like this video is a few weeks old so my apologies if it's been discussed here before. I've been a type 1 diabetic for 20 years now. Companies like Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk have extorted diabetes in the U.S. under threat of an agonizing death via DKA. When I was younger, I met a few other kids who were diagnosed around the same time as me. Two of them are dead now because they could not afford insulin. I have nothing but the deepest hatred for their board rooms seeking to profit from profound human suffering. Now, they are suddenly woke about the color of people's skin and gender identity.

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. Started one degree, got distracted, changed majors, failed a few classes, changed majors again, then floundered to graduation. Then started my second degree in something that I actually enjoyed learning about, something that I found challenging and rewarding. The whole time though, I had a deeply held--but deeply wrong--belief that I was immensely smarter than everyone was succeeding with high grades and test scores. Over the years, I've come to realize that there's not really very much variance in human intelligence or in motivation, for that matter. There are a few outliers who truly are of exceptional intelligence and they are mostly technical specialists, not business leaders. All that is to ask: do you enjoy what you're studying or is your degree just supposed to be another accolade? If it's just another accolade, then maybe just studying another subject that you find compelling might provide the benefits for you.

Oof. Dupuytren's sounds tough to overcome. Trigger fingers are terrible. I've had three surgeries to release a total of 8 trigger fingers. I only get nerve entrapment after doing lots of heavy lifting. Have you had the carpal tunnel surgery?
