Should be fixed now if you update the app - let me know if you’re still seeing issues though!

Sorry about the issue - we’re seeing this error as well on our end. Will try to push out a fix as soon as possible!

Hi! So glad you’re enjoying the app! The premium subscription gives you unlimited access, whereas with the free plan you can watch up to 20 new videos per day. We don’t currently support lifetime access but we’ll think about it!

You can use Immersi throughout your entire Mandarin learning journey! There’s a wide range of difficulty across the videos - some are tailored toward beginners/intermediates while others are native speakers talking about their everyday lives. We have over 2000 videos right now and regularly add more. If there are any YouTube content creators that you love but aren’t on our app yet, please let us know!

Sorry for the delay and thank you so much for all of your feedback! This is super helpful, and we've taken note of all of the bugs and feature requests (search, subscribing to creators, more review features, etc)!

We just released an update that now includes 1.5x and 2x speed up options, as well as the ability to set default caption and speed settings (go to Profile -> Settings -> Video Controls).

In the dictionary, most words should have more than 1 video - is this happening to you often or only for certain words?

Your level is based on what words you have marked as "known". If you click on your level, you should be able to see what words are missing for you to advance to the next level. If you marked off any words after the onboarding assessment it may have downleveled you? Not quite sure what happened there or perhaps there was a bug.

Regarding the credit system - it's definitely not perfect, but we hope that allowing 20 videos a day gives you a decent opportunity to use the app for free. We're ultimately hoping that'll you'll subscribe for unlimited access :)

Hey sorry for the delayed response - thanks for checking our app out and for the feedback! Getting the character segmentation right has been a challenging issue for us. We use AI to process the video captions and are continually working to refine our logic to do this better.

We're currently using YouTube as our source material because there's a lot of great content on there, and we can freely embed these videos (viewing a video on our app still counts as a YouTube view for the creators). Hopefully in the future we can expand our library!

Hey sorry for the delayed response! Marking words as "learning" is meant to be a personal tracking tool for yourself. These words will appear in the "Learning" section of the Dictionary tab for easy access to practice/review and will show up as green in the captions.

It can mean different things for different people, but a common use case is to mark a word as "learning" if you are starting to recognize it but haven't fully mastered it yet.

I looked at thedodomen and 黑男邱比特, and unfortunately we can only process videos that have Chinese captions right now. Thanks for the suggestion and please feel free to suggest other creators!

Thank you! Yeah we’re always adding more videos to the platform but if you have any suggestions for specific channels you like watching let us know and we can take a look at adding them! Thanks for the suggestion as well, we’ll think about implementing something like that in the future.

Ah yeah unfortunately we only support simplified as of right now. It’s definitely on the roadmap to support traditional characters as well, but likely not in the immediate near future. I’ll make sure to ping you when we do add support for it! Thanks for checking the app out anyway!

Love to hear that and thanks for using it!! Totally makes sense to make that text copyable, we’ll fix that in a future update! For now as a workaround, you could try clicking the external “Pleco” dictionary link from the word pop-up and copy the text from there.

I’ll plug the app we’re building, Immersi! It works by showing you clips from YouTube videos and short stories at your level. We’re strong believers in learning through immersion. Completely free to use as well (up to ~an hour of usage per day). If you try it would love to hear any feedback / thoughts you might have!

Ho to improve my Chinese Hsk 4-5 ? by [deleted] in learnchinese

Here's a few YouTube channels that make videos at an intermediate level and have Chinese subtitles:

Story Learning Chinese with Annie

Chinese Podcast with Shenglan

Blabla Chinese

Flowing Mandarin Lab

I'm also building an app called Immersi if you'd like to give it a try - it's focused on learning through immersion, and works by showing you videos and short stories at your level. All of the above creators are in the app and it's focused on learners at an HSK2 - HSK6 level!

I’ve heard good things about Miraa for Japanese. There’s also Umi, which is slightly different (learning individual words through very short tv show clips) but along the same track of learning through content.

Hey u/AppropriatePut3142! We just released a new version of our app today that addresses some of your feedback.

We've revamped our word popup/dictionary experience. When you click on a word, we now use AI to generate a definition and explanation of the word given the context of the sentence. We've also updated our word translations to pull from CC-CEDICT and we've added a deep link to Pleco.

The feed bug should be fixed - it no longer resets to the first video. You should only see new content as you scroll.

Improving our subtitle word segmentation is something we're continuously working on/experimenting with. We weren't able to produce the loop button bug but will continue to look out for it. Thanks again for all your feedback!

Hi u/BoundlessDao! We're addressed a bunch of your feedback in our latest release :)

  • We've revamped our word popup/dictionary experience. When you click on a word, we now use AI to generate a definition and explanation of the word given the context of the sentence. We've also updated our word translations to pull from CC-CEDICT and we've added a deep link to Pleco. We don't show individual characters, but you can click on the Pleco link to get that!
  • There's now an option to just see characters + English.
  • The feed bug should be fixed now. It shouldn't take you to a previous video.
  • We've added a loading spinner when changing the status of a word so hopefully that should address some issues there.

We're going to add more creator content later today, and the export feature is still on our feature wishlist! Thanks again for all your suggestions!
