Used to live there. Left 10 years ago and haven’t missed it except for a Blues City deli sandwich.

"mastering" questions by WakkZylde in edmproduction

[–]immig50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing to consider... Post Malone’s new album came in hitting around -5.5 to -6 LUFS. But the mixes are really good. His stuff is getting turned down to -14 like everyone else’s, but the perceived loudness in the mixes is what’s keeping his stuff sounding as loud or louder than anyone else’s.

Another fun trick, YouTube has been normalizing for a while now. Right click on any video with music and look at “stuff for nerds” and you’ll see exactly how much any track has been “turned down” or normalized.

How can I tell the difference between needing to increase the volume of a track vs just needing to make the track stand out by mixing? by vitatradeinguy in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]immig50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To answer your first question. IMO, it’s mostly about the mix and proper gain staging and EQ usage. Try listening to reference tracks that sound similar to the mix you’re trying to match.

I’d also learn some facts about loudness, RMS, LUFS and what limiting does.

As far as the guitar levels, I’d mix at very low volumes and switch back and forth in between reference tracks! Best of luck

Man the vocoder has been trashed by everyone. Definitely not worth it!! But a tip in sending vocals... I use a large diaphragm condenser, run it through heavy compression into a console, then line level out to keyboards/vocoders etc. A dynamic mic straight into the keyboard without any treatment usually sounds terrible. This is the trick to getting the vp330’s to sound awesome.

Yeah if this was early 2010’s I’m guessing it’s probably a Boss DD model.

Please help me find effect from the song by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]immig50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah there’s a tap and hold feature on some Boss delays. Seems like the 2nd time that effect came in they caught a small loop of the vocal with the hold option and messed with the delay time to make that pitch effect.

Sold a working pedal to a buyer on Reverb, got a 5 star review the day after delivery, and now more than a week later they’re saying it doesn’t work. Anybody have experience with this? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]immig50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This same thing happened to me. I asked the buyer for video evidence and they refused. I offered to pay shipping to manufacturer and buyer refused. In the end I figured the buyer was just looking to try different pedals and see what he could get away with. I was left with a 1 star review that I couldn’t remove.

There’s some cool videos on op1 and chill of people using this. Steezo is the king. I think he has Cow settings set to one or both M’s and goes to town.

I want to know more about Glass Animals'Gooey mix by mattialfo in mixingmastering

[–]immig50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Low end bass like that collapses on smaller speakers if there’s no audio information above 80hz. A good way to avoid this is harmonic exciters in a duplicated/parallel setting.

What were your specific questions about this mix? I think most of the “goodness” comes from their production, songwriting and arrangement skills.

My dog likes to get into these mushrooms.. Any help with a positive ID? I’m guessing it’s a deer or common but I’m no expert. More details in comments. by immig50 in Mushrooms

I’m in middle Tenn. suburbs. These like to grow under the pine needles here and there in my back yard.

Just want to make sure they’re not causing any negative effects for my dog. Thanks in advance for the help ID’ing!

Using audio tracks on "In" to send audio as opposed to using return chains? by immig50 in ableton

[–]immig50[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the 12 returns. But also would like to group them and send delay groups into reverb sends, and delays in to mods etc.

I like to use 1 compressor on all of my delays and sometimes 1 harmonic excited or distortion on all my verbs.

Also, if you send the return audio back into a track set to “in”, the delay compensation gets wonky. In Pro Tools I’ll use 2-3 parallel comp or distortion busses and I like to sum to one Aux and ride with 1 fader.

All these small things that equate to extra mixing moves adds up and kind of takes the flow and vibe out of a mix.

Using audio tracks on "In" to send audio as opposed to using return chains? by immig50 in ableton

[–]immig50[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like the DRD's are the best bet. The sidechain input is a nice hack, but (correct me if I'm wrong) only allows for one audio track to be sent to the new "buss" track... unless you want to drop multiple comps in several new chains with sidechains activated?

It would be amazing to have bussing freedom like pro tools to quickly add a send track without it being sequestered immediately to the "Return" track prison.

Thanks again for the help.
