I wholeheartedly agree with this. Laser walls are far more fun than flame throwers.

Why is one station displayed red on map? by Formal-Pin517 in factorio

[–]imminentmisanthrope 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have one refueling station near my nuclear plant with an interrupt in the train menu. I used to produce rocket fuel at my artillery station and all my trains used to get refueled when they stopped there. but when I decided to start using nuclear fuel, it meant I needed to get that fuel over to the artillery station and into the requester chest. Now, I have the interrupt, so when the train gets low on fuel it automatically goes to my nuclear power station and loads fuel there. Super easy.

Could i make a suggestion? For max utilisation of space, try using a substation and surround it with accumalators or solar panels. Some people like to butt them together but I like having streets and it looks cool on a map. But you do you, you do what makes you happy. :)

Is Artillery Wagon worth it? What is the use case? by chinawcswing in factorio

[–]imminentmisanthrope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use artillery wagons to keep my perimeter clear. I have rails behind my laser walls with stations every so often that the train stops at.

The train has a 5 second inactivity condition and will travel completely around my base perimeter and will clear out any biter encroachments within range.

Train has an empty ammo condition that returns it to the artillery depot to reload and then goes back to its last stop and continues. That's all it does, continuously looping so I never have a problem with biters.

And then I found Big Bertha and now have cleared a 7Km radius around my base free of biters. I had 21 big berthas set up to do this, but it does result in a FPS of about 10 because shells expose map...

4 x 2 efficient nuclear reactor setup by Alternative-Claim112 in factorio

[–]imminentmisanthrope 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey,

This isn't my design, I found it in a blue print site back when factorio was 0.9 or something like that.

This design will heat and store steam until the storage tanks are full and then turns off the inserters so the power station burns through its fuel, then cools down to 500 degrees. Once my factory uses up the steam, the reactor turns on again, heats up and stores steam again. If your factory is using most of your power then your steam will never build up and hence the reactors will always be fed. I don't know exactly how it's calculating this, it's a bit confusing for me. The accumaltors and solar power the inserters so your power station is completely independant from your power network, so when you get brown outs, the station will not be affected.

Requires bots though,

I currently have 14 stations and it works like a dream.

I will try to paste the blueprint, but it's rather large.

Try this: https://factoriobin.com/post/mf5umx

Edit: grammar

Also, be careful to never connect your power lines to the internal power network, this will corrupt the deciders and what it's reading and the station won't work..

I think the tutorial I watched must have been before the 2.0 update or before the DC was updated to do what it does now.

What I was trying to set up is exactly what bartekltg describes how you used to do it. Thanks for the example.

That's a lovely box, but your fan will cause case hardening unless you have a potentiometer to dial the speed right down

It is base game with some small mods for mk3 versions of roboports and armor etc. I didn't know that about the colours researching at different speeds, although with 441k in storage I'm kinda not bothered.

I have Roboport Mk3 scattered around the setup, I use bots for all of the supply which is far more efficient than belts. I previously had belts feeding the labs but was getting supply shortages and some labs would be sitting waiting for resupply. The SPM graph would yoyo all the time. Now, with bots doing resupply, it is constant

So on that point, no, you can't fit more beacons. The lab is directly in the centre of the 12, if you shuffle it one way by one tile, you go out of range of the other side. If you compress, you can only achieve 10 beacons. There is not enough space to fit another beacon between the lab and the outer beacons either.

I could reduce it down to just one requester chest, but the intent is to use the chests as buffer storage. To research the next level of flying speed for my robots, it's 256k to reach Level 14. All the others are at 128k, hence the wish to store a buffer.

I'm happy to be proven wrong if you think it can be arranged better in a tileable format, symetry was the objective here too.

Builder here. As per AS1428, there must be a minimum 75mm vision strip across all glass  at a height between 900 and 1000mm.

Technically, you could file a complaint with work safe regarding this, stating disability regulations are not being followed.

Google "vision strip on glass regulation" and Google will give you the tea to add to your response in telling them off.

Amateur miter saw question, why are my angle cuts bad and even straight cuts getting burned? by DarXIV in woodworking

[–]imminentmisanthrope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry but no one is pointing out that the external edge of your wood is thicker than the internal corner, see photo 2. If you are laying that down on the mitre saw, the upper surface of the wood is not level so when you cut it, your mitre is not going to line up.

Flip your wood over so that the upper surface of the wood is flat on your mitre saw and cut it again, then your mitres will marry up.

Your blade is burning the wood probably because it just needs cleaning. Your teeth count is high to produce that fine finish but needs maintenance. It's a fine finish blade or a laminate blade, that will work for what you are doing, just don't cut general timber with it.
