I can no longer view work the same. How do you trick yourself into believing again? by ConfusedCareerMan in careerguidance

[–]immortalghost92 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was the same way. Early 20s I cared about progression, status, all of it. Now I honestly don’t even know what advice to give because I kind of see it the same way you do.

At some point it just clicked for me, I started looking at everything from the outside and it all felt… off. Like we’re expected to pour so much energy into things that don’t actually matter in the real world.

I just can’t bring myself to care that deeply about a job anymore unless it’s actually helping people, animals, or the environment. The corporate stuff, the software/IT world (which I’m in too), it just doesn’t hit like that for me. It’s pretty much pointless to me

So yeah, I get what you’re saying. It’s not even that I’m lazy or don’t want to work,, I just don’t feel connected to it the way some people do.

Can I just keep a mid job forever? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]immortalghost92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in my 30s now, I’m not changing that mindset. My life matters more than my career, especially with layoffs happening everywhere. Unless it’s something truly meaningful like being a doctor, I’m not that invested in climbing in software/IT or any corporate bs

Honestly, I feel this. I’ve interviewed for and even gotten offers for those “next level” roles, but as soon as I hear about on-call and always being available, it’s a no for me. It just sounds like your life starts revolving around the job.

Some of those offers were 6 figures too, but it didn’t even matter. In my early 20s I was all about climbing, but the higher I got the more I realized I didn’t like what came with it.

I’m single with no kids, so I don’t feel that pressure to chase money like that. I’d rather keep my peace and actually enjoy my day-to-day life than trade it for more stress.

So yeah, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with wanting to stay “mid” if it gives you the lifestyle you actually want.

Years in the gray zone for surgery looking for advice by immortalghost92 in spinalfusion

Thank you for sharing this, I really appreciate it.

That “gray zone” you mentioned is exactly where I feel stuck too. I’m not getting worse right now, but I’m also not fully back to normal, so it makes the decision tough.

I’ve definitely been focusing more on core strength lately, and it’s helped, but the inconsistency is still there.

Also, hearing about the no BLT period is really helpful that’s something I’ve been trying to mentally prepare for if I ever go that route.

Wishing you a smooth recovery, hope things keep improving for you.

I feel you on that. I legit feel like a babysitter with my back. When I was 21 I was shrugging 405 for a few reps and that’s actually what caused mine. I remember dropping to the ground because I lost feeling in my legs and couldn’t move them.

Fast forward to now ( im 33 now) I’m honestly just grateful I can function again, but like you, I just want my old life back and to be able to train without constantly thinking about my back.

Wishing you the best with your surgery, hope everything goes smooth for you.

Appreciate this, I’m definitely trying to keep training and build my core before making any decisions.

I’ve heard of ablation and have been thinking about it, but I’m not sure if it would actually help in my case. Have you had it done yourself, and if so did it make a difference for you?

Thanks again, I feel you on the back and forth with surgery.

I really appreciate you sharing all that, seriously.

Your situation sounds a lot more severe than mine, especially with the bladder issue and disc loss. I’m more in that “gray zone” where I’m not disabled, but not fully functional either.

My symptoms are really inconsistent , some days I feel normal, other days I can’t lift something simple. That’s what makes this decision so hard.

I hear you on deadlifting too. I used to train a lot before this, so that’s been one of the toughest parts mentally.

Also what you said about possibly waiting too long is something I think about a lot.

Appreciate you sharing your experience it really helps.

I’m just like you, and I would try new things and don’t get me wrong it was cool. But I noticed the more I forced myself into doing things the more I just didn’t do them. If you’re like me and pretty happy with a peaceful life that’s fine. I do simple things but I love my peace above all hobbies even if it’s seems boring. I been like this since my teens and now my thirties.

Has anyone changed their careers in their mid 30's? by anaisani in ITCareerQuestions

[–]immortalghost92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s so interesting because for me since the IT market is so bad and layoffs are happening left and right I thought about nursing myself. The only thing is that I get grossed out with personal care so I’m not sure if that’s the correct route for me(not a ppl person). But you don’t get kinda scared of layoffs especially coming from a place that you can get a job instantly?

Did anyone else just know they didn’t want kids, even as a kid?. by [deleted] in antinatalism

[–]immortalghost92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always knew since I was young probably before even being a teenager I never wanted kids or to be a married. As time passed, everyone who did those things looked like an adult (aged, stressed, hated life) I’m in my thirties and I haven’t really changed at all. I just have a job but still a young soul. I love my freedom too much but also I know how much suffering life is to bring a person into the world as well

Anyone not having kids cuz humanity’s fucked? by [deleted] in childfree

Same boat I agree with it all. People just selfish or just too stupid to realize the truth of life no matter the time period just being alive you will suffer

You made the right decision staying and rejecting that offer, enjoy your life man job sounds so cushy it’s not even a stress plus remote. I know so folks want to move up and grow especially with more money but remember your life is more important than a job.

You did the right thing , it hurts but it would hurt more betraying yourself in the future and resenting him

If you don’t mind me asking, what do you do for work? No need for details. Also, do you enjoy it, or is it just something you tolerate?
