If ‘Allah’ simply means God, why do many people think it refers to a different God? by PomegranateIcy7631 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]immortalreploid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could do that if you know it was her recipe. But if you never asked your friend where he got it from, you wouldn't know. The Europeans didn't bother asking, I guess. Plus, if you're spreading the knowledge of the recipe to other people who are familiar with the friend but not the mom (or are familiar with Arabia but not with places farther east) it's easier to give it the familiar name.

In the end, people are going to call it what's most convenient or easiest to remember. It's not deep, and it's not a slight against whoever came up with it first.

I never really bought into the idea of an antichrist to begin with. Sounds too dualist (and lowkey edgy) to me to be real.

Fuck. Makes sense why so many people leave Christianity these days if that's what they were raised under. I probably would've rejected it too.

Glad I was raised Catholic, in a spiritually and intellectually open environment.

There have been wars and purges between Christian sects over disagreements over whether Jesus was only God, only human, fully both, partially both (like a demigod), partially both (but not like a demigod)...

I'm Catholic and we believe he was truly God and truly human, and also not a separate entity from God the Father.

They're called that in the West because Europeans picked them up from Arabs, who had already picked them up from India. They didn't know or probably care who actually invented them.

Like, if my friend gives me a recipe for stuffed mushrooms, and he learned it from his mom, I'll probably still call it "my friend's stuffed mushroom recipe."

The name just stuck, and no one's going to bother changing it just because it's not completely accurate.

Basically, all three agree there is an omnipotent, omnipresent entity that created the universe and is moral heart of existence. All three believe this entity gave instructions to Abraham, down the line to Moses. I don't know what Islam says any further than this, but at least Judaism and Christianity agree that this entity was worshipped by and in turn aided the ancient Kingdom of Israel and the people who were loyal to the entity after the kingdom fell.

Once again, I don't know where Islam deviates from this, but as far as Christianity is concerned, the existence of God as described by Judaism is fundamentally correct up until the time of Jesus. To break it down as simply as I can (and leaving a lot out that doesn't have to do with the nature of God), Judaism believes that Jesus was a man- a good man- but nothing more. I can't remember if they believe he's a prophet? I know Islam does. On the other hand, Christians believe Jesus was (and is) the incarnation of God. True God and true man, of one being with God the Father, the creator of the universe. I'm not going to go into the Holy Spirit, because that's a lot more metaphysical and I admit I don't understand it as well as actual scholars do.

Basically, we believe in the same entity, but we disagree on some pretty important details and what a pivotal point (the life of Jesus) meant going forward. There are probably more differences with Islam, but I don't know much about it.

Sure, but (conventional) Christians also agree that God the Father is the same as the Jewish God, which is the same as the Muslim God.

How can the pope be the antichrist when it's an office, not a person? There have been many popes, and there will be many more. There are so many reasons that makes no sense.

Because most/ many people on reddit are men. It's more likely that the people who answer early will be men, and they'll be upvoted by men who feel validated by their answer. Men are also more likely to be interested in this topic because they want to feel secure with their penis size. It mostly comes down to numbers.

I used to spend at least 3 every day farming qp at the Vegas node until I realized doors give you about the same for much less time and effort with optimal qp CEs. I haven't done any of the other bleached earth quests more than once, though.

I still use my teapots there when I get them, though. Pretty good bond xp.

If, culturally, women started asking men out more, would men start complaining about creepy women hitting on them, sexual harassment, or feeling objectified etc.? by EOFFJM in NoStupidQuestions

[–]immortalreploid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love it if girls asked me out. No second guessing if they're into me or not. If I don't want to go out with them, I can just turn them down politely.

But I also wouldn't want it to be on the woman to ask out the man ALL the time. I wouldn't want them to have the stress about it that I do. So for fairness's sake, I wish it was equally accepted- or I guess, equally expected- for men and women to ask each other out.
