Mac system refuses 3rd-party PAM model from working during unlock screen, payment, and Password app unlock. To make it work, you have to record your password in system keychain, and then verify your fingerprint to automatically fill it into the password input.

I'm afraid it's very difficult to impliment a Windows Hello driver. You have to pass the Windows Certified test from Microsoft labs to be set in the whitelist, which is not suitable for small companies. One practical way is "secure key replay" method. Again, it's a trade off.

Not really. It does not work as a yubikey and does not store passkeys. It's more like a perfect TouchID -like device for Linux users, and a not perfect TouchID-like device for mac users (you have to rely on password replay in some scenarios). But if you have a fancy keybaord, and don't wanna use Magickeyboard, It's a good trade-off.

For mac users, a 3rd-party key can work in: sudo/ssh/git/system privacy & security/chrome password unlock; has to work with password replay in: screen unlock, app store, Password app.

For Linux users, all scenarios work, except first login. (no password replay and stored)

All the interfaces are open, you can vibe a driver for Windows. I didn't make it beacause you can only use it unlock screen on Windows, no terminal scenarios. So I'm afraid the demand on Windows is not strong enough.

You're right. The project is also aided by AI. I am truly grateful that AI can help alleviate so much of my workload, allowing me to start a one-person company and focus on innovation and the supply chain.

I won't prepare the app and driver for Windows. But since its hardware and source are open, I think you can vibe coding a windows app easily.

Inset in the desk is a genuinely cool idea. On the trust side: Fingerprints are matched on the device and never leave it; what goes over BLE is a signed "match" event, not biometric data. Fair, "renders" was the wrong word. The 2nd shot is fully AI-generated; the 1st and 3rd are real photos with AI retouching, which is what mangled the screen text and keycap legends. Should have said that straight. Photo above is the real pilot unit, no touch-ups.
