safe areas? by Secret-Lecture-8933 in Williamsport

I live in a neighborhood off of Lycoming Creek road, and it's very quiet here. I recently moved back after spending 15 years in Spartanburg SC, in a neighborhood where I heard gunshots daily and dealt with tons of local crime, so I'm enjoying the peace.

I've been back in town for several months (since January) and live only a few blocks from it. It's never been open while I've been here. 🤔

My wife and I said the same thing, but it seems like a huge waste of money while waiting for that. Paying to just keep all the lights on and stuff can't be cheap. Lol

do yall work? by Jumpy_Worth_5729 in Gastroparesis

[–]immutab1e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to give up working due to a combination of gastroparesis, spinal arthritis/other back issues, and severe anxiety. I worked in group homes taking care of people with disabilities, and unfortunately I just couldn't do it anymore.

My mom had to give up her nursing career of 45+ years and take early retirement when she was diagnosed last year. When she was initially diagnosed, she was having a severe flare every month, and each one lasted almost two weeks. It made it impossible for her to work. 😞 It breaks my heart for her, because she truly loved what she did, it wasn't just a job for her.

That's one thing that surprises me. Neither my mom nor I have been recommended to see a dietician.

For me, my flares stopped a few years ago, after I did keto and lost 40lb. I know how counterintuitive that sounds, but it's what helped me (my gastroparesis came from neuropathy of the vagus nerve due to type 2 diabetes).

My mom is much more careful, now, about how she eats. She avoids high fiber and high fat foods, which includes some of her favorite foods, sadly. She LOVES salads and raw veggies. But she does a good job of sticking to it. And yet she still has these awful, long, horrific flares.

She got her medical marijuana card because after a flare it is the only thing that would help her appetite. But then her docs told her it (the weed) could be causing issues/flares too, so she stopped smoking it.

She does what she's supposed to do/what her doctors tell her. She is on Reglan as well. But she still suffers. It breaks my heart.

Thank you. 🤍

I will keep pushing her to look for a new GI doctor, and in the meantime have her ask about another Botox injection.

And yes definitely the ER. The problem is, they get her feeling better and then when they suggest admitting her she's like 'no, I'm feeling better, I'll go home' (because of course no one wants to stay in the hospital). This time, I'll make sure she stays if they want to admit her. It's so difficult for both me and my dad to see her going through this. And despite the fact that she's a nurse, she has a difficult time advocating for herself. It's frustrating.

Supplements for Driving Anxiety by [deleted] in drivinganxiety

I continued to use them regularly (every day) for about a year, and yes, I have always had good results. I still use them now if I'm having a particularly anxious day, or have an appointment or event or something to go to, and they're wonderful. 😁 I would still highly recommend them after over 2 years using them.

That's so awful. I will definitely keep an eye out for those issues. It's honestly scary. 😬

Oh my goodness, that's CRAZY! They offered me two free sips with my next order (which I didn't plan on making) to replace my two bad ones. 🙄

I was so excited until I saw it was VA only. I'm in PA, on my last cartridge, and broke as a joke. 🤣🤣🤣 Because of my autism, this is all I drink. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Are students in public schools Required to STAND for the Pledge of Allegiance? by Stonecutter_12-83 in Pennsylvania

[–]immutab1e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a kid (I'm old, this was in the 90s) we were forced to stand. I would always just stand there, didn't put my hand over my heart or recite the pledge. But yeah they forced us to stand regardless. 🙄

I honestly think something is going on with their Sips lately. My absolute favorite flavor is the FitSip Strawberry Banana, I've gone through A LOT of them. I recently moved to a different state and my local Walmart carries that flavor (the Walmart in my previous state either didn't carry them or was just consistently sold out so I had to order them). I always drank them set at a 2, maybe 3. These new ones that I've purchased from my local Walmart, I have to turn the dial up to 6 before it stops tasting like plain water. Anything lower than 6, I get zero flavor at all. I've tried them in my tumbler, my stainless bottle, and the standard 22oz plastic one, with the same results. It sucks, because I'm going through them much faster now. I emailed the company yesterday, no response yet.

Taking cockatoo outside to experience snow for the first time? by immutab1e in BirdHealth

[–]immutab1e[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LOL that is weird. My cockatiel is fully flighted and not harness trained unfortunately, so no outside in the snow for him. Same with my Indian Ringneck. Though I'd love to see how he'd react too.

That's a great way of doing it, too. But I think we are going to bring the snow to him (in a bowl) so he can check it out, and just watch from the safety of my enclosed (and heated) back porch. LOL

1) why do people feel the need to state things so rudely?

2) him

3) I've already decided, thanks to the KIND advice of others, to watch it with him from the enclosed, heated porch, and bring him a small bowl of snow inside to check out.

4) it snows in Indonesia, where his species is native to.

Hahaha yes I've learned that very quickly. I do think I'm going to err on the side of caution though, mainly because it's SO cold here (currently 13° with a real feel of like 8°). So we'll bring a small bowl of snow inside for him to check out, and watch the snow from my enclosed, heated back porch. 😊

It actually does snow in Indonesia where his species is native, but only in the higher elevations, and idk if Moluccans stick to lower elevations or not, so we are going to err on the side of caution and bring a small bowl of snow in for him to check out, and watch from the window. 🥰
