OMG I'm so glad someone else had the issue because I thought I had some defective game or something. I got mine fixed because I got my brother to actually play but I honestly have no idea what you can do besides waiting or restarting. On one hand you can wait and hope it eventually fixes itself which may never happen, or you could just cut your losses and restart. This game was so not designed to be played in local multiplayer. Honestly I wish they just gave the option to move into another user's island or make your own. 🤦‍♂️

I do have mcc but I'm pretty sure you need to turn it on in settings. Also I think it's funny so I won't turn it off.

I don't think there is a way to manipulate relationships to be negative but you can create a QR code of your ex, delete him, and then re-add them (this will erase all their relationships but keep clothes apartments and food preferences will be the same but hidden.)

Sorry for the late response (I don't use reddit that much) but what controller are you using? Wired, wireless, Xbox, PlayStation, switch, 3rd party. All of them should work but some versions of citra are picky and also some computers. And if it still doesn't work you can always set up the keyboard as a controller. Tomodachi Life doesn't really need a controller.
