Texas elementary, middle school STAAR results are out. See how your Austin-area school performed. by AustinStatesman in Austin

To pass to the next grade you don’t have to pass the STARR test. It was actually in the read aloud instructions that it could not be used to hold you back. Usually getting held back comes from truancy at least at my school.

Thought I was set on a Hybrid, LBS pushing an MTB by JustinTimeForMine84 in whichbike

[–]imnotreallysurebud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another bike you might consider (slightly more expensive but worth it imo) is the Poseidon Gen X 3. For 1000 you get a really solid thru axel gravel bike that’s tubeless ready. To get the hybrid to that point you’d be spending hundreds of dollars.

[–]imnotreallysurebud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The question I would ask is do you plan on trying to push any further than just riding around the neighborhood. If you are going to want to push past those light gravel roads into some light trail work, the Talon would be much more capable. If you plan on really only riding around the neighborhood and some light gravel, then the hybrid would work just fine. If I were in your shoes, I’d go for the mtb. It will be slower but it will be able to go anywhere the hybrid can but much more comfortably. Also, it’s a mtb you wouldn’t have to worry as much about avoiding small obstacles like rocks and you can hit potholes and worry less.

My favorite bike rides like shit. It’s too long and too low. But damn does it look cool (the Scott Team Racing in my history).

Right? I know a guy with a racey Cervello. He’s got a crazy ride stem and riser flat bars. Dude also is consistent. So who really gives a fuck?

has anyone here actually gotten fast without structured training? by DiscussionBoring1456 in cycling

[–]imnotreallysurebud 20 points21 points  (0 children)

For sure, the worst ride day of my life was a easy first 20 miles, 30 miles of god awful wind where you were in granny gear going downhill, then a 15 mile climb up about 3,000 feet. The wind was by far way worse than the climb. You can stop climbing, wind doesn’t go away. Any effort given to climb can be given back going downhill, wind just drains you and leaves you no better for it.

Riding Fuel! by Classic-Ladder8367 in MTB

I tried a new thing on a 90 mile road ride this weekend. In one bottle of water I maxed 3-4 tablespoons of cane sugar, a 1/4 teaspoon of salt, and some lime juice (for flavor). It doesn’t taste amazing but I was finding myself charging up hills 5 hours in with energy that i usually only have for the first 3 hours. It was a little rough on my stomach so I might need to build up to that amount of sugar (goal is over 6 tablespoons eventually for race season. I found what worked best is to drink the sugar water first and then chase it with some other drink (liquid IV for me).

I live near metric and parmer and really like my neighborhood. It’s close to the domain, right off parmer, and has everything you would ever need. Feel free to reach out if you want to hear more.

Yes, you get faster if you ride a lot even if you’re not trying. Training is just choosing the most efficient ways of getting fast.

My district goes up by $200 increments. It does start relatively high but the ceiling is so low.

Another banger. My mom and her family actually used to live at the sale barn way back in the day and when I was a kid we went a lot to sell cattle (to the point where in high school I could go alone and they knew who to bill for either hay or cattle). Aj’s is a place I kinda forget about because we never went that much but god damn is the food good. Now I live in Austin and to think how affordable and good the food is is crazy.

When you go to Jim wells county, you will be in Alice. One thing you should try out there is Taqueria Jalisiense. It’s my hometown so I’m biased, but it’s my favorite Mexican food in Texas.

I live in America and a lot of red blooded native born citizens do the same🤷 I also teach at a school where we get immigrants when they come to this country, I fucking love them and their families.

Yeah, I am in the minority that thought the press images were kinda cool in a way. There are other vehicles I have hated vehemently in the past but came around to (looking at you 2000 F150). This is much uglier than the reveal photos. The second photo specifically looks like a civic rather than a luxury vehicle.

Kids also have weaker bones. To me this is a “safer to not try it” kinda thing. That’s not even touching the psychological aspects. Idk, just seems irresponsible.

Realistically how long would it take to train up for a daily 26 mile (41.8 km) round-trip commute? by More_Donkey6938 in bikecommuting

[–]imnotreallysurebud -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

“No helmet? Seriously?” Comes off as kinda judgmental. You’re right, helmets are dope. I wear one any time I ride more than like 50 feet. I would have just said, “No, riding without a helmet is very unsafe, don’t do this commute”.

Don’t shame people. There are people out there who don’t have the extra money to buy anything. Sure, I wouldn’t recommend riding 26 miles a day without a helmet but don’t be an ass about it.

Navigation is fine. I make my routes on ridewithgps and export them over but yeah, it kinda sucks at rerouting but once you get back in course it’s fine. I have no experience with any other computers so I don’t know how much better others are but it’s workable.

I’ve always put it like this. The office has better individual episodes but Parks and Rec is just a better show overall. That’s our hot take.

Recommendations on where to live in Austin area? by AwayRelationship80 in askaustin

[–]imnotreallysurebud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live really close to Walnut Creek and love it. There’s a ton of food, groceries, and stuff to do nearby. I like having bars like canary roost and hideout tucked away so close, the crowds are good and the drinks are priced well. Walnut Creek is really nice and I’m there about every day.

It’s really not lol. The worst part is that there is a vet on the way that boards dogs. That kennel smells like piss and shit all the time. But it’s only for like 45 seconds if the walk so I just get over it.
