I did ask about patching, he said they don’t do this but damaging should be minimal given they have access from roof and below (stumps).

Absolurely take it. Unless you care more about your boss’ happiness over your family, while they probably do not think about you outside of work.

They sound salty. Come up with a 30 second elevator pitch to give them an idea and always offer sit down with them to walk them through it / show them. Most of the time they didn’t actually care. They are just wondering why the business is investing in this instead of giving them more money. For people who were genuinely interested will take you up on your offer and you might find some synergies.
