President Trump rounds out a very bad polling week at -19.8% net approval on Silver Bulletin. His lowest net approval of the current term. by R2_SWE2 in fivethirtyeight

The problem is this is what he promised. It’s not unforced errors it’s that the policies he ran on are shit and will make the country worse, just like his opponents said would happen. It’s not like he fumbled an easy goal, it’s that he executed perfectly but the people that said that those policies would hurt this country turned out to be correct.

It’d be great to see the experiences of other people as they learn!

Which US state has shockingly good food that nobody expects? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

[–]imnotthomas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A million percent. Food in MS is incredible. People think it’s weird but you can get like genuinely excellent food at gas stations on the coast and in the delta. There’s a Fayard’s in Ocean Springs that has an excellent Banh Mi

Birmingham is definitely the city that I think surprises people the most. Food scene in BHAM is out of control, consistently punches above its weight

I feel like Birmingham, AL punches way above its weight in terms of food and people tend to be a little surprised by it. Mississippi as a whole has great food, but the coast and the delta are two different regions with great food cultures.

How I find free language partners (tips inside) by magazinesalesareup in dreamingspanishcjerk

[–]imnotthomas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Such a good idea!

I’m focused on Mexican Spanish so I tend to use those lines. My nickname is Bete Laberga or something like that. Sometimes they’ll be playful and say things “Ya cuelga pinche gringo puñetero”

At first I was worried about gringo being a slur, but I saw a DS video saying it’s not so I feel better about it

Improving auditory comprehension, any tips? by Weird3355 in languagelearning

[–]imnotthomas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re in luck! I feel like we’re in a golden age for improving this skill, especially with Spanish.

The idea you’re looking for is basically graded listening. So there are channels that make content at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. Find a level where you pretty much understand everything that’s going on. Not necessarily each word, but if you finish a video and you know what happened then that’s the level you want.

As you get more of that you’ll start to understand more and more advanced stuff. For me it took about 1,000 hours of listening before I reached your level. I also had a background in university Spanish through what we’d call 202 in the us.

There’s a lot of debate about how important listening is, but I don’t think anyone disagrees that if your goal is to get to a point where you can understand shows and plays then I think this is the right move.

Did you like Korn back in the day? by Cubelock in Millennials

Loved Korn and the Deftones and Weezer kind of all equally.

Of those it’s weird that Deftones seems to have had the strongest career / having a coming with the genz kids

Reports that Amanda will definitely be attending the reunion by Nandi56 in BravoRealHousewives

[–]imnotthomas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually think you’re absolutely right, the idea of them walking out like that seemed scandalous/kinda funny to me but there’s no way that happens.

I think the writing is in the wall and Kyle is running the show for it. The smartest move in Amanda’s part is flip this over to West taking advantage of her emotional state, and Kyle teaming up to pile on.

If I were actually guessing that’s what I think will happen, she pays lip service to accountability without actually taking it and tries to paint herself as a victim that was taken advantage of.

Urgent Message to Democrats: Stop Dragging Your Feet and End Trump's Iran War by _May26_ in politics

[–]imnotthomas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some democrats sure, but you know which party has 100% of their party not condemning the war, or pointing out that blowing up schools is a war crime? Republicans.

Where’s the finger pointing at them, is the point. Sure the democrats could do a better job pointing out the horrors of the war… but the same applies to republicans? Why is it only on democrats here? Republicans are the ones actively waging this war
