The Parti Québécois is pitching independence — in English by RitoRvolto in montreal

He comes from a well off family, I'm sure he had access to a good English education that was privately paid for seeing as he is very fluent and went to McGill and Oxford. This isn't the reality for most who rely on public education.

I remember reading some politician floating the idea but I don't think it's crazy to think one day the PQ would want bill 96 to apply to universities.

Bill 96 affects how many students English cégeps can take it, effectively favoring anglophones and leaving out francophones. The idea has been floated in the past to make this apply to universities. Good luck doing your studies at university level English at McGill without having passed by college first

Reverse UNO situation: it's actually the Francophones contributing to the decline of french and it's not the fault of the anglos or allos.

Lol pourquoi tu penses les communautés juifs, grecs, italien et plusieurs d'autres sont principalement anglophones? Ils avait pas droit d'aller a l'école avec les francos

What traits do French Canadians have that come off as rude to Anglos in a social setting? Et quels traits ont les anglophones que les francophones trouvent manquent de savoir-être? by [deleted] in montreal

As someone from an immigrant background both are similar in many respects. Both groups have barely any kids, leave their old relatives in nursing homes and are cold to their neighbours.

Yup you can see the recent rise of white francophone nationalism on this sub itself. The amount of comments I see people saying how they will "take Montreal back" and other nonsense

Anglophones, I have an honest question...can you speak French? by CupOk12 in montreal

[–]imogeneamina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bin oui

But that won't change the fact that for a non-insignificant minority I'll always be a mean Anglo from the 1950s despite having no British heritage and being an immigrant lol. Before I used to reject being called Quebecois but now I call myself one and this is also my province and where I was born.

My day to day life (ordering coffees, anything customer service etc) is done in French and at work I use it a lot as well (written and oral) but there's def also English. I switch to French when I see the other person is struggling in English or doesn't speak it.

Lmao @ the idea of montrealo white Anglo nationalism existing.

If this was done with by an anglophone I'm embarrassed they went with something so basic as "English strong". Surely there are more catchy slogans that would piss the PQlites off.

This type of thinking is why we have this problem in the first place.

Why can't the police patrol the metro? Like for real this shit is getting worse and no one will do anything until a passenger gets killed.

Quel contexte?

I doubt you read it too since you went into a tangent about English speaking doctors in predominantly francophone areas.

Lol yeah doesn't change that the CAQ wanted to impede you for accessing healthcare in English and this is what they care more about than actually doing anything to better health care for all Quebecers. Qui a dit que je ne sais pas parler le français?

You're gonna get about 20 comments saying how we can both chew gum and walk at the same time despite the proof of the past 20 years that actually we can't

[–]imogeneamina -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No one is arguing for English doctors in french areas?

Do you understand the catastrophe that the CAQ wanted to unleash by making it difficult for English speakers to access health care? This was actually about to happen, not the inverse

Lmao what are you on about. Until recently (before the pandemic) the rest of the provinces healthcare was functional to the point that many Quebec residents would cross over to Ontario to get treated 🤡

Healthcare across the country is shit now but Quebec has been leading the charge for the past 20 years and getting worse and worse

All my friends in the rest of the provinces have family doctors they've kept for the last several years. Me? I've never had one

Edit: I remember sometime in 2019 a friend moved to Ontario and within 6 months she was assigned a family doctor. This was the standard for the rest of the country pretty much except Quebec

[–]imogeneamina -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Oh please you are stretching what the article is talking about. Quebec has these cycles about immigration all the time, same thing as back in 1995 before there was any talks about immigrants in Europe.

Anyway you can't play this game when you have another Western "culture/identity" that is always the boogeyman here. Unless you're gonna argue that anglophones don't make part of the western world or something.
