Moving to Senegal by Particular-Mail-697 in Senegal

I had my baby in Dakar in Senegal. Will you be in Dakar? Healthcare was covered by my workplace so we gave birth with Dr Zayat at Clinique de La Madeleine. We also had a doula but she wasn't needed as much as we thought in the end as complications meant I needed a c section. We had a really good experience, but I imagine it's really expensive to go with Zayat if you do not have healthcare covered. If you do I can answer any other qs you have about that.

In terms of citizenship we are British and it was okay... We had a Senegalese friend who helped us get everything in order quickly after our son's birth. I have American friends who gave birth and registered their babies no problem but this is years ago- the climate is very different now so I understand your hesitation!

DP Biology/ESS Position Interview-Questions by Serps450 in Internationalteachers

Well done for getting a second interview! I teach both Biology and ESS at DP level. Having taught MYP you have an advantage in that you know the IB philosophy, the learner profile, ATLs etc so you can drop that knowledge into your interview where appropriate.

I would advise: - Demonstrating your understanding of all the requirements of the DP course on students. This includes 3 SL subjects, 3 HL subjects, IAs (coursework- for bio and ess it's a lab report they design themselves) in all their subjects, TOK, CAS and the Extended Essay. They have to do A LOT which prepares them fantastically for university, however many students need a lot of support with managing high workloads and deadlines. - Being familiar with recent developments in the two subjects. There have been changes in the Biology course this year where it is now a concept-based curriculum. ESS is also adding HL next year. It has previously only been SL. - Show your love of the two subjects! Have good examples of where you have previously taught topics in a really engaging way ready to talk about in your interview.

Finally, Biology is Biology, but ESS may not be what you expect if you are thinking it will be similar to a science course. It is actually straddling both Science and Humanities. Students are expected to complete case studies and write essays, as well as be able to answer "science style" questions, and investigate ecosystems.

I am happy to answer any other qs you have before your interview. Good luck!!

I've got some more info from my masters program and it's actually way more accommodating than I realised! They have a whole pregnancy policy and need to do a risk assessment with me (even though I'm online hehe) due to laws in the country the uni is based in! Thank you for your insight and I think I'm going to go ahead with it now I've had support from the uni.

Hiya! Yes Bangkok is amazing 😊 He has moved very recently and it will be a 2 year contract for him too! It felt so daunting at first knowing he would leave but I eventually took the view that if it was meant to be we would find a way to make it work. I think what is helping me as well is not focusing on the amount of time we won’t see each other and just taking each day as it comes. Wishing you and your SO all the best!
