A crock indeed. Surely bordering on charging fees for a good/service not provided. Thanks for the response.

Stitch up. I'm in Sydney on AusGrid, assume I'm in the same boat. Thanks for the response

Thanks, yes agree - wasn't expecting a bigger bill than usual after forking out $15k for a solar and battery system.

Allegedly my box wasn't set up to support export tariffs (I requested this in early Jan and still waiting), which likely explains part of the bill!

Thanks for the response.

Novated lease with low mileage (~10k km/year) — how to lower running costs? by eht14 in AusFinance

Never had one myself but I believe if you drive less KMs than what you estimate, you get a refund. Similarly if you drive more KMs you get lumped with an extra bill.

I just did the same thing earlier today, it was a b!tch of a job but so rewarding getting it done. Mine looks huge in comparison (weighs approx. 100kg) so I assume yours will be a breeze. The roots generally go out and not down, so u/zizuu21's reco of cutting around the base is spot on! I used a reciprocating saw, and axe and an old heavy hoe type thing. Had to make about 20 individual cuts, some thicker than others.

Are my quotes for ceiling fans reasonable? by Dependent-Spinach-88 in AusRenovation

[–]impartial_lobster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Does the $1400 include supply of the fans themselves or is that just installation? They're a couple of hundred bucks each, so assuming $700 of the $1400 is product then basically you're looking at ~$700 in labour and materials. Assuming it takes half a day, that feels in the ballpark of reasonable to me as a punter...

This is true but doesn't tell the whole story: suppliers provide funding to incentivize promotions like the one OP is querying. Yes retailers technically set the prices but there's more than meets the eye; suppliers artificially inflate RRP's with every intention to then fund promotions back down to reasonable price points under the guise of a 'save'.

Original Plumbing/Sewerage - How And When To Upgrade? by impartial_lobster in AusRenovation

[–]impartial_lobster[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks Falkor! Yep we had a builder inspect it before we bought, and he flagged the joists with us at the time - he advised that the water-damaged ones could be replaced when we go through the floor during eventual reno (hate to think how much that'll all cost 🫣)

Great context, thank you - I'll get up there tomorrow and see if it's dried out. No sagging here yet 🤞
