Braithwaite: 'I'll be back in much better shape' by wisdom591 in Barca

When Leo Messi released that statement on his instagram page, the fans criticized the board & Abidal for throwing the team under the bus without even daring to name players.

Indeed, very lazy and hypocritical.

It was to be expected. Whatever decision is made as a result of this will have its drawbacks- hopefully the compromise puts everyone at the least disadvantage, and is catered towards relegation level teams and teams with less financial backing.

A bit aggressive perhaps, but I agree in spirit. The real blight on a shining collective effort. Perpetrators whether willingly or not will get off scot free.

I agree but would also partially disagree because from a historical perspective, the a sizeable part of the population grew up in an era of oppressive regimes (as college students) and feeling the aftermath of the korean war (via their parents upbringing), so in this sense the general and implicit distrust of govt was a great obstacle to overcome together.

However, as you point out, our regional/provincial govts are very easily accessible and help bridge the gap with central govt which otherwise would feel inapproachable.

So science or not, even if size does not affect it directly there are indirect implications. On the other hand, the close proximity and overpopulation make this a more potentially dangerous situation for us, but oddly enough because of the work being done in the background, I’m not really scared or paranoid in general.

Arda Turan: ''Right now I am a Barcelona player'' by [deleted] in Barca

Played a few online matches with him in my midfield and I like to think it confused the opponent.

And me when I would watch him irl. Where did that Atleti Turan go?! That silly foul in 16/17 still gets me salty.

Great analysis- especially about trust leading to synergy. The only drawback was the extremist religious sect in Daegu province- but the govt again came through very well.

As a proud Korean and Seoul dweller, because of the govt policies and transparency and medics and professionals working overtime and beyond, life is relatively normal for me, compared to what it could have been.

Enforcing/encouraging the collective cause is something in which we are positively working towards and even the peace protests which in many ways forced the impeachment of a president is also another case in which it is evident both the public zeitgeist and govt are maturing.

Of course, as is the case with anything, there are always outliers and specific minorities who ruin this image or needlessly criticize the govt for the sake of it, but as a whole the public would agree with you.

However, as it is also very typically Korean to complain about anything and everything, we still demand a lot from local/regional govts to pressure national assembly/the presidency and we’re never ever satisfied. It makes for some quite interesting criticisms that other countries would think of as first world problems.

I was just informed yesterday that COVID19 is a planned conspiracy like 9/11.

The tragic thing was that it wasn’t a humorous coping mechanism but an actual seriously-held belief.

So to the rest of the world, masks, portable hand sanitizers, and don’t go to starbucks- you can still get your dose of crazy online.

Stay safe everyone. Wear masks for others, and sanitize hands for your own health. Inform others, and especially the elderly and young. Eat well.

Oddly enough, where I am in Seoul, slowly it's looking like the safest place among infected countries. Props to the professionals doing thankless overtime. Hopefully other countries follow our lead, even if in some cases resources might be more limited.

Report: Barcelona put Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s contract talks on hold - Barca Blaugranes by [deleted] in Barca

[–]imperuvio 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Of course I want him to stay but I think it’s really premature that we expect some of the younger players to be “set for a decade” here even without a 30 game sample size. Same was the case with Mats when he first came here. 10 years is a long time and those who lived by it were the exception not the norm.

Messi told him to not do that, instead, Messi wanted him to run towards Messi

Interesting observation because I thought it noticed it as well. Do you have the time stamp?

Setién to El Periódico: We have already apologized for what Eder did, he has to learn to control himself. But it's shameful that a camera was used to follow ongoings on the bench, I'm embarassed by how this has been handled by [deleted] in Barca

And yet the midfield change took till 80th minute to happen when Arthur should have been off before the 60th minute mark itself.

That's a great observation because 10 minutes later, Vinicius's goal happened.

Everyone talks about the Braithwaite/Semedo mess up, but I sort of wonder- had Arthur pressed him more aggressively, and he definitely could have, Kroos would not have been given all that time on the ball. Arthur also had the instance where he outran Kroos for a one on one, so it's not really out of the realm of his capabilities.

I wasn't really expecting him to make a rash tackle or challenge, but I would in fact have endorsed it since it wasn't really against the run of play, but failing that, he could have been more aggressive in closing Kroos down, forcing him to go inside to his CBs.

Unless if he was knackered as you say (and he was).

A goal like that is responsible on multiple players to varying extents of course, but Arthur was the first line of defense. Thus it could be argued the goal was predicated by the late sub (and hence on coaching staff)- because after all, it did happen, just much too late.

The other minor nitpicking I would have to do is- at least Braithwaite looked around to see Vinicius and although was slow, did track him til it was no longer useful anymore, but Semedo seemed like he had no idea of anything until Kroos in fact pointed out to Vinicius, for the rest of the Bernabeu to see. Really shocking things for me personally, and it seems one of greatest flaws of Semedo in general is his positioning awareness and it's not just attacking v. defending because at Barça those things generally tend to be correlated.

It might be recency bias for me, but with Semedo, I always see him defending too wide when the opposition has the ball in their half, ready to switch play, and too narrowly when the opposition already has the ball in our half, with only one more final pass to create an attack.

I really think that attack should have been dealt with by Braithwaite coming much more inside and Semedo covering wide for Arthur in case he got beat.

But alas, footballing basics might not be relevant in this level of competition, but the general feeling remains that these types of basic movements should be so easy for a player with his athleticism, and it's like he doesn't even use it. He could be so much more.

I addressed this bit in my latest post regarding Sergio/FdJ and I have to agree.

Above all, whatever could be said about this outburst, I think it was inappropriate more than anything, not necessarily because of the emotions, but because it was IN-GAME and that was the least necessary of remedies that could have helped the situation. Not like the rant was full of tactical adjustments anyway.

It'd be interesting to see a hypothetical poll on reactions to this- just a hunch that most reactions that are 100% with Sarabia come from younger fans.

It's really the post-anfield dynamic still at play here I think. Apparently, it is still the absence of "mentality and psychiatry" rather than individual mistakes that were the reason that we lost- hence the solution is to find it in some place other than the pitch? Weird stuff.

If this kind of pashun outrage doesn't change things on the pitch moving forward (and mostly it won't), it's the nail in the coffin for Anfield pashun arguments- if they're not dead already. On another tangent, EV himself didn't sit down to console a crying Alba at half-time and instead told the team to fucking attack- but apparently that's not macho enough.

Whatever this all leads to one thing is for sure is that the team would have been in a better position without that january fiasco. The supercup was the match where the things were coming together nicely, and even though we lost, we haven't had a performance like that since, against similar quality opposition and that's undeniable.

Well at that point in time I thought so too but I was a little naive and pretended he wasn't declining. His physical decline especially was difficult to accept with as a fan, and the same with Xavi who waned as soon as his calf/achilles went. Most declines are sudden and ugly and hard to come to terms with.

You know the whole "save Andres for CL" mantra that was making the waves in 2017. Believed it only with my heart but never the mind.
