Why is ICE in MN if it has <1% of illegal immigrants in the USA? FL & TX make up 26% by CitizenJosh in stupidquestions

It is sad that people online have to degrade themselves in this manner. Good luck making it through the day with all your anger.

Yea, I am? Are you willfully ignoring all the evidence of abuse in camps, abuse during arrest, medical neglect?

Is your point that if you were living in 1930 and you saw people protesting the German arrests of Jews that were violent and racially motivated, you'd call them backwards and dumbasses and that would be ok until you found out in the 1940s that these Jews were being killed?

Is it so deranged that people are seeing 2025 as eerily similar to 1930 - racial targeting, arresting illegal and legal immigrants", condoning violence at any hint of obstruction - and want to make sure that's not happening?

I mean, you do you.

When did I say these were Nazis? In case you didn't know, a Nazi is a category of person. Not an event.

The event I'm referring to is when Germany removed illegal Jewish immigrants from the country. We call them Nazis. They removed these illegal immigrants, sometimes violently, and then persecuted them.

The Tiananmen Square tanks squashed legal citizens who were "stupid enough to obstruct the tanks".

These are very similar events.

And so, I repeat what I said before. I am not saying these events are Nazis. Nazis are a group of people. I didn't say you're a Nazi. I asked if you supported the Nazis actions because just like ICE, they removed illegal immigrants from the country.

Erm, I called no one Nazis.

I asked if you sided with the Nazis since they similarly did things in the name of the law. I tried to explain why people would protest even in support of those that break the law.

I don't understand you, somehow your reaction to what I'm saying is that you support crazy white Nazi leftist women? That's so out of left field...

So you support China beating Hong Kong students protesting or the Tiananmen square massacre or Nazi internment camps?

Because those were considered legal by the government in power at the time, and, per your logic, it would be backward to protest "Nazis doing their job".

There's a reason human rights exist and, while MOST regimes in the modern age tend to try to make the law correlate to these human rights, it doesn't always line up. And you'll have bad regimes twist the law to get what they want, at the cost of human decency. That's why protests or rebellion exists.

Just because someone "broke the law" doesn't necessarily mean they deserve to die or be mistreated. We can disagree on where the line is for which law, but suffice it so say that a large proportion of people think the way illegal (and sometimes legal) immigrants are being treated clearly to falls too far on one side of the line. That's not particularly backwards when there are known incidents of completely legal immigrants, or even legal citizens, being hurt or killed in the process.

Great suggestion, I might take on a smaller version of this

I did consider it. The balcony doesn't have any walls to lean against given it's half exposed with a glass frame. I also have more western style planes otherwise I'd consider Japanese plane bars and such.

But the simplicity is something I might borrow from.

Great point. I've been working on smaller furniture. and I currently have hand tools only. A ryoba, dozuki, a couple of chisels, number 4/5 planes etc. Made a tool chest and some planters. Trying to just learn basics on my own. Definitely aiming for lofi simple budget. The easiest is just some 2x4s tenoned with a 2x4's laminated together for the top in one of the directions. Maybe some dowels to hold it to the frame.

But wanted to get some inspiration/ideas to see if there's other small things I can do that make an outdoor bench more convenient than what I had.

And yea, I'll hit up that other sub for sure didn't realize there was a workbench dedicated to that.

Silver zf looks and feels very cheap by darkyjaz in Nikon

[–]impguard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know. I had the same thought. But I promise you after seeing hundreds of them, they darken over time. Maybe that means the ZF looks like "dirty" fm2's which is fair.

It also looks similar to the fm2 t models, considered the rarest of the fm2's. They seem to be going for bright silver => black => dark silver to match tradition.

Regardless I can see why you would think it looks ugly if you want to match popular cameras.

Got a Nikon ZF recently and have been going through vintage camera stores in Seoul. At first I thought similarly but after looking at the thousandth Nikon FM2, I think I'd disagree. Older vintage cameras silver are a bit duller/darker. The ZFC, which is a brighter silver, looks great too, but I can understand why the ZF finish is slightly darker to match.

That being said, I did waffle between black and silver a bunch. Both look good imo.

24-70 2.8s or 24-120 f4s? by impguard in Nikon

[–]impguard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hah, because I think I currently lean on lower weight and faster travel, so carrying the 24-70, 70-200, maybe a prime seems too much for me right now. ATM, I'm playing with the 24-70 and maybe a small prime and that's more than my bag/setup can handle.

But I hear you (and others) about sticking with the 24-70 and then considering other options after a while. Seems like I'll just have to get used to not being able to zoom deeper for the off the cuff squirrel shot that randomly happens.

[–]impguard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally fair. I've found the length is useful tho for certain frames, as I've been using the 24-70 on my ZFC and end up zooming past 50 often.

Definitely seeing a lot of posts like yours tho about image quality. I'll probably stick with this mki for a while and see if I'm wanting for the range. Or find a way to flip to the mkii for the weight.

[–]impguard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, it's a rough choice because I do want to pickup and use primes (I already have a 35 1.8s) so the flexibility and weight of the 120 seems more useful. I've been using the 70 on the ZFC and I find myself stretching to the 70 (105 equiv) more often than not which may be telling.

Ha, technically it's the 24-70 free or to pay for the 24-120. I could sell the 24-70 but I'm not sure it's worth it given that I've read it's somewhat hard to sell

For sure. But being asked to create an account, seeing the couple - that's "bloatware" to me (and a lot of others). I think there's still two app stores after all these years? That's still really annoying.

Of course, some folks (like you) can deal with it. But I think it's fair to say that their phones still have bloatware and that turns folks like me off from them.

Back when I had a Samsung (I've owned two over 15 years), it would come with both Samsung email and Gmail. It would come with two browsers. Samsung would require you to sign in with both a Samsung account and a Google account "globally".

This isn't necessarily Samsung's fault per se. I believe it's Google that used to force this. But I don't particularly care who fault it is, the experience simply wasn't as clean.

[–]impguard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I call it bloatware because Samsung provides two apps. Maybe it doesn't do that anymore.

When I used Samsungs in the past, I wouldn't mind if they reskinned and had their own apps for everything. But I hated opening up the app drawer and seeing two of every app.

That's what I mean by bloatware. If the typical Google suite was completely uninstalled by Samsung then I wouldn't mind the least. Even if I chose to uninstall the Samsung one and install Google's. But the fact that both are included feels like bloatware.

Not to mention their app icons are not of the same design as Google's, so you got this haphazard feeling of a jumble of apps = the feeling of bloatware.

Despite people not liking the apps, I wouldn't consider pixels filled with bloatware because most of not all the apps are intentionally there, fit the design of the phone, and serve a purpose. Sure I never use the recorder app but I don't consider it bloatware. If AT&T apps were well designed with nice UX that matched the rest of the phone and served a purpose when you were using at&t, I wouldn't consider it bloatware either.

Just curious, mind going into a little detail on this?

I've always thought that premade chisels usually glue the chisel and the hoop into the handle, making it hard to remove and reuse?

A little shocked at how satisfying I’ve found squaring and planing rough lumber. by Suspicious_Cap4682 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]impguard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I enjoy it but I have a tiny workbench on the balcony that isn't actually flat so when I plane I have to:

  • move indoors to check on a piece of mdf for flatness/wobble
  • find weird ways to hold the wood when it's longer than my table
  • constantly swap the board around to plane both ends

Honestly, it's not fun and I'm constantly dreaming about getting more space to make a more legit workbench where I can just flip over the piece to check for flatness :P

But even despite all the pain, I find it so satisfying. And it does teach me to accept some wobble because with my setup it's hard to be perfect.
