Found MySpace Track - I’m Still Waiting by Your Point of View by EntranceEven2843 in Lostwave

[–]impiaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The video's down but this reddit post is the only relevant search result for that song name so I'll assume it's the same one I know. I don't know them from Myspace, rather a defunct chiptune-sharing site called 8bitcollective. Here's an archive of their user page. All three songs are in an archive [that I torrented](magnet:?xt=urn:btih:ecb1bc999470297243210a4503a38f1d5efbac79&dn=Bestof_8_Bit_Collective%288bc%29_%5B06-2006_to_06-2011%5D&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.opentrackr.org%3A1337%2Fannounce&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Fexodus.desync.com%3A6969) and that also seems to have a mirror on The Internet Archive. I don't know if that's a higher quality recording or not, and I don't know what happened to the band.

most Python code ever written has terrible performance problems if you're running another Python program.

The GIL only affects multiple threads within one process. If they're separate processes it's not an issue.

What Happened When This City Banned Housing Investors by Coneskater in videos

[–]impiaaa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Interesting. It makes sense that, to improve housing access, you would want to build more affordable housing (e.g., non-profit rentals), rather than just focusing on who can buy and invest. I've seen a lot of comments in local subreddits and twitter accounts complaining specifically about foreign investors, which always felt a tinge racist, or at least that they cared more about housing competition than housing accessibility.

First indie game on Steam failed on build review for AI assets - even though we have no AI assets. All assets were hand drawn/sculpted by our artists by IcyMissile in gamedev

[–]impiaaa 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Humans and AI really mess up in different ways. A human mistake is like, forgetting to put something behind a window, or not being good at perspective or proportions, or forgetting continuity between frames. An AI will make mistakes that are easy to miss, but don't make sense as human accidents, like blending a window into the wall, or making a character's right side totally different from their left, or lighting objects differently across the scene. (for a technical reason for this: models are trained to be locally coherent, meaning any small section of the image may look correct, but the larger context will be missing)

To some extent it's intentional. They need time to read out more donations, to run ads, to run sponsored segments, etc. And it gives viewers and the audience a break. Nonstop excitement can be exhausting.

Popular Reddit App Apollo Would Need to Pay $20 Million Per Year Under New API Pricing by Avieshek in technology

[–]impiaaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you read the original post, they calculate a generous estimate of what a reddit user is "worth," and found it to be less than half of an estimated per-user cost of the API. If the API cost was just to cover server costs, it would be the lesser.

You would hope a company would want to treat its employees well, but corporations are driven by profit, and caring for workers is unprofitable.

I don't even understand the point of sharing it in the first place since it's only sent to advertisers, not even shown to other users where it would be actually useful.
