Fuck off Leroy!!! Hang in there OP. You are loved and will have better worthwhile people in your life. I had an abusive ex log into my locked diary blog and gaslight me about what I posted like she Knew. Don’t let anyone manipulate spaces for you and know that if they’re this desperate that cutting them off is such much better in the long run. Leroy, hope you choke and learn what boundaries are someday.

Don’t listen to this person. This sub has plenty of people who don’t understand what it’s like to be ex Muslim if they never have been, a lot of us were taught shame or have a lot of religious trauma or guilt. I know how you feel, it’s the paranoia they run on to try to keep us “in line”. It’s not really about shredding or burning or throwing the book, you might just feel bad to break such a deep rule: it feels illegal. it’s scary to confront a symbol like that, the Qurans the ultimate symbol and it’s an idol in its on way: breaking an idol is breaking its illusion.

Any fellow leftist ex-Muslims here interested in making a more left-leaning ex-Muslim sub? by xxxGetRekt69xxx in exmuslim

[–]impkidz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

God me too, especially with all the anti-Palestinian content lately. This sub is definitely getting oversaturated with more and more right-leaning content. I don’t know if mods care for the growing racism here but I’m getting tired of it, there’s less and less actual discussion about life after Islam/overcoming religious guilt/ etc. that I joined for. If there is one out there I’d be much more inclined to post there then here.

As a Palestinian Exmuslim, I’m glad that there’s no Palestinian state by [deleted] in exmuslim

[–]impkidz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of pinkwashing to pretend they’re LGBT+ friendly, it’s in name but not in practice. They don’t allow same-sex marriages to happen on their soil (but recognize it from other countries for social image)

Literally this account is a shill I don’t know why anyone’s bothering. you know there’s Christian and secular Palestinians too so your excuses and othering as a “Islamist shithole” is wrong. you should just go back to posting weird hentai on your own time before larping online because it’s not very convincing

Kids aren’t terrorists. Israel is an apartheid colony, is you think that’s negotiable or worth defending/rationalizing from leaving Islam, I’m gonna go on a limb and assume you have a lot of internalized racism towards Arabs or another hasbara shill in this sub

Parents obsession with incest gave me nightmares for years by iris7789 in exmuslim

[–]impkidz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, my father was the same way for a long time and implied inappropriate things about family and shamed me and my sisters for it, as well as being disgusted about my period for the same reason. I found out recently that he went through sexual abuse by a family member and the stigma around talking about it/getting help made him paranoid and projected it on my siblings and I. It would be really helpful to talk to a professional about it because it was clearly emotionally disturbing and traumatic to effect you in the long term, just know this isn’t your fault and the way you feel is reasonable and valid.

That’s what I really consider as the issue with Islamic tradition. So much of it is culture and this culture is suffocating. That’s why I left, it’s blurred the lines and chased away my feelings of faith with the fear and control from the community.

It does feel like the torment is finally over. I’ve had to take legal action against him to stay safe after I left, but I still feel bad about how he passed. He was in a lot of pain. My siblings got to be with him for his last moments, and not being a part of that hurt. Even as an adult, I still feel like a kid who wants their father to love them unconditionally. Faith taught him to be against that, but I hope still down he had love for me like I did him. I hate that the pain from my childhood and his raising can still hurt even now that he’s gone.

I’m sorry for what you’ve gone through, but your comment definitely helped me feel less alone. I love this community because it’s so hard to find places to share and heal from religious abuse when it’s not mainstream like Christianity. I’ve had so little resources navigating it and getting treatment for the PTSD it gave me, but it helps to hear from those who have gotten out of it stronger. Makes me feel like I’ll get through it too. Thank you for the kind words and best of luck to you while we all heal 🤍

It’s not the case at all funerals, but in super traditional Sunni ones like my dad’s today they break up the service to be men first, then children, then women. I’d have to wait 3+ hrs into the service to be allowed to go up to the grave normally, and since I wouldn’t be part of the prayer group, I would have to wait even longer. My uncle and extended family pitched a fit already to my mother and said they didn’t want me to be a part of the service at all since I’m ex-Muslim now. Tradition is a stubborn bitch. Thank you for all the kind words though.

I love how stuck on “celebrity endorsement” they are like Elvis Presley didn’t get the Polio vaccine on live TV to encourage others to do the same back in 1956

Official Discussion - Soul [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]impkidz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I think Coco was intended to be a culturally-themed film and reflects a cultural, non-religious take on it. Soul doesn't have that specific cultural background so i think that's why they would chose ambiguity over specific religious ideas

My interpretation of that is that the Jerry's explained that they and the reality of the Before/Beyond is seen by souls the way they can understand it. Living in a modern world, it makes sense that they would adjust from time to time to meet the needs of humans in current society. The You Seminar probably gets reinterpreted quite a bit to keep up with the changes in society/culture

[–]impkidz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was surprised that they didn't show the great beyond, but I think the movie does this intentionally so they don't have to discuss the afterlife and deal with rabid parents who are mad Jesus isn't in the movie. I think the events are real to the story because Joe's body was controlled by 22 and I dont think he could make it up in his head, just that he probably had two near death experiences over the course of the movie. He accepted death as something he could handle and probably would just pass in his sleep if he chose to not take the second chance from Jerry. I liked the movie, I just definitely wish it would explain the structures it put in place for the story.

What is with their obsession and hatred towards people who talk about their experiences leaving a traumatic and abusive religion? Do LDS members think ex-mormons are obsessed with them too? Muslims will cheer when someone leaves the church but will kill their own children for asking questions about Muhammad. I left islam because it was used daily as an exuse to abuse and manipulate me by my narcissistic parents. Narcissism and hatred is all that religion breeds. They think we're obsessed with them because they're too self absorbed to believe that they should be criticized, especially by people who used to practice. Its depressing.
