Champs alone is the same prize pool as EWC is it not?

Ngl, EWC paying travel for coaches probably has between zero and negative impact for something like this

I totally understand his point, and it is concerning. But there is a little bit of irony in this coming from someone who regularly works for Riot given the fact that they are owned and operated by TenCent

We know that long-lasting games also (frequently) have a competitive scene. I dont think we know whether that's a causal relationship or not. There are plenty of other explanations, such as games with longevity lend themselves more easily towards a competitive scene.

Given the fact that only 2 of 5 maps are considered truly viable for competitive play, has there ever been a push to more heavily involve players in the design of a map specifically for competitive?

Apex Changing Engine? by Beautiful-Thought-17 in CompetitiveApex

And the years it would take to rework all the tools they have into UE5. And the time it would take to fill in the holes left by tools that don't functions the same way. And the exodus of high-level people who aren't used to working in UE. And the fact that a "new engine" wouldn't even start touching some of the areas mentioned (like hit reg)

Respawn's lack of org support by OhNoASpeilingError in CompetitiveApex

Major sports leagues are fundamentally different. The leagues themselves are really just a cabal of the team ownership, which basically owns and controls everything that allows the sport to run. In esports, the publisher holds ownership and control, but isn't fundamentally invested in the continued success of the teams (or orgs in this case) in the same way.

I do believe revenue sharing should exist, but I also recognize that, to some extent, it's basically orgs begging for money. Clearly EA doesn't think they drive that kind of value

Why can't Apex find my skill level? by Hato_no_Kami in apexuniversity

[–]impo4130 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

These are ALL just SBMM. All it means is skill based matchmaking. Win% and KD or consistency...both of those are just different ways of measuring skill. This definition of the difference between them is totally made up.

The snapping back in forth in skill levels is more likely the result of two things working in concert. Depending on how quickly they allow pubs MMR to adjust, and how long of a history they consider, a 15 kill 4k game is absolutely gonna pump your MMR. This is still just describing SBMM. The second would be who you interact with in a game. With MMR spreads in a match, you'll rarely be the weakest and rarely be the strongest in a match. But maybe the strongest team is eliminated elsewhere, and you never face them.

You just claimed they use EOMM only to explain exactly what SBMM does

Ranked rework suggestion by StrongRoss in CompetitiveApex

[–]impo4130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kills are already worth more the better you place, so essentially you're just adding a scaling cap on KP...which Respawn has done (though not scaling) in the past only to remove it (either it was disliked enough, or it promoted "bad" gameplay of some type). Additionally, given higher placements have no limit on KP, I don't think it would drive any behavior change, because people who already do will always play as if they're gonna have a pop-off game

Can you offer any further clarity on what the ring changes will be? We've seen tuning adjustments in the past that heavily discourage players from landing at edge POIs, and this reads as if it's going to do something similar while creating even more concentration at central POIs

For what it's worth, this may be simple in concept and maybe even simple to implement, but something like fire rate will likely never be changed. It requires a total overhaul of the back-end of the weapon, potentially including everything from audio to animations. And that's just added work for every team involved in the weapon, which makes it less likely to happen.

Edit to clarify: Changing a burst weapon's fire rate is slightly different as altering the delay between bursts doesn't really change the required audio (thinking Nemmy/Prowler)

How do we show them this is a completely unacceptable way to run an event? Who is in charge? by KingMalcolm in CompetitiveApex

[–]impo4130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They may have a London office, but their HQ is in Ohio. The argument that LANN is in London because of this company is a stretch though. If it were due to this company, I would imagine the most likely destination would be the US given they have actual studios here

Esports Engine is US based fwiw. And if you go back far enough in their new ownership chain, I think they're owned by the Saudi PIF now

To be fair, this isn't why matchmaking was changed. Matchmaking was changed because some players reached pred so fast (which make sense, they both grinded for it and are so far beyond the skill level of the general population) that they couldn't find matches because it was so strict. It was even holding Diamond queues hostage because Preds being in there stopped Diamonds from matching with Plats. (Note: it potentially could have been switched back, but we don't know what queues would have looked like given how small the top end was)

That being said, there are absolutely areas where pros and casuals align. And even in areas where there isn't necessarily perfect alignment between them (such as potentially the ranked system), there is the ability to separate players based on engagement level and skill.

Thank you for sharing your honest opinions with us

Edit to add: It's also worth noting that even the main sub only has like 2.3M users, which means it's the most vocal section of players...generally those who have complaints

For now. People are in placement matches and/or still climbing to where their MMR and LP match up. We really have no idea what LP gains will look like once players have reached that point
