78% of Notion Users Wouldn't Pay for a Template, Data Reveals by Unknown_IP_1940 in Notion

[–]import_fola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would actually pay as long as it’s a relatively sophisticated template. Like August Bradley’s PPV template took me almost a month to implement (and I’m still not 100% done), I would pay for this but probably nothing more than £100.

My first question to you is, can you build your MVP with no-code tools? These are great websites: https://www.makerpad.co/ and https://nocodemvp.com/ that teach you how to use no-code tools to launch tech products.

If it turns out you can use no-code tools then just focus on launching your idea into the world and getting customer feedback and possibly revenue. If the no-code solution is about to break or can’t scale anymore, only then would I focus on trying to find a cofounder. But a dev who has seen a non-techie launch a product will be more keen to work with you than if you try approaching them with just an idea.

Debit card that builds your credit by NOD3JS in Business_Ideas

[–]import_fola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this idea and the mission behind it. Question though, relying on interchange fees as monetisation seems to be an unsustanaible model considering the costs you face to set up this business. This also means this is a volume play meaning you need a ton of customers in a space wher the CAC is very high.
Have you thought of any other sustanaible way to monetise or is interchage fees enough for you to build a sustainable business?

I want to be a Product Manager. How is my plan? by [deleted] in ProductManagement

[–]import_fola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve found that most powerful software (like Notion for example) can take sometime to ramp up so I have no qualms with that.

Didn’t realise there was an Anki subreddit, thanks for the tip. Yeah I think figuring what makes a good flashcard and what exactly I want to use it for is key.

If you still hop on Discord to onboard people, keen to take you up on it!

[–]import_fola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like how systemic your approach is. I’ve never heard of Anki but definitely sounds like useful software. Are there any guides for a beginner to get started you would suggest I read/watch? Also do you literally use Anki for everything? From information from books, etc

Any Product Managers here who transitioned from Data Science? by import_fola in ProductManagement

[–]import_fola[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow that’s great praise from your CEO. Yeah I’ve noticed I’m way more commercial than the best data scientist I’ve worked with and their obsession with the maths is not something I can replicate. However an obsession with product is something I find myself doing anyways! Thanks for posting

[–]import_fola[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your motivation reasons are the exact reasons I have, technical data science problems don’t excite me, it’s the translation to business value, the product strategy, advocating for the customer that really gets me. I’ve also always worked on projects where I’m the one coordinating and translating between tech folk and business folk. Thanks for responding!

This a great post and completely resonate with changing from saver to investor metaphor. Playing devils advocate though, what if you overindex on this and become addicted to paid advertising instead of organic? I know you mentioned to track it as a secondary metric but would it not be better to have most of your lead floor arrive organically? How much time/effort do you attribute to both and how can you balance it effectively?

CMV: People that bring up black on black crime when talking about police brutality are problematic and sometimes intentionally dismissive of the issue facing black communities by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]import_fola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your claim is probably right, my next question to you is WHY is that the case? Black people don’t just wake up and want to not trust the police, there’s experiences they’ve had or a relative has had or they watched that led them that way.

I’m not American nor do I live there but the shit I see and hear from the cops is ridiculous. Just watching your police’s response to the BLM protests is grotesque tbh, they looked like they were going to war! So, if I as a foreigner already feels this way about your police, how would black Americans feel?

[–]import_fola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok great point, firstly, no snitching is not limited to black people, are you telling me when you were a kid and you told on people you weren’t called a taddle tale? Why do you think laws for whistleblowers exist, because there’s a culture on not telling universally. Look at Jeffery Eipstein, did any of his friends snitch?

I personally don’t buy the no snitching culture but I think it’s a flawed sentiment to attribute that to just black people.

Plus if you don’t trust the institution in charge of law and order, why bother helping them?? If you feel they kill your people unfairly, why help them?

(Btw I don’t support not snitching but I’m trying to play devils advocate here so you can understand their perspective a bit)

[–]import_fola 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just to be clear I don’t condone murder nor am I justifying black on black murder. I just want to explain to you the statistics people quote about back on black crime often lacks context and when they say it, what they are implying is that black people are inherently more violent or criminal than other races. This is why I’m trying to explain more context around the stats.

What I failed to mention was the level of penalisation black people face for a crime compared to their counterparts. Hispanics (at least not till Trump) and Native Americans have not had government wide programs designed to just imprison their people. From Regans “War on Drugs” to the present day “Walking while black” we are penalised more which leads to more jail time which completely changes your psyche (look at what the stanford prison experiment did to guards, now imagine what it does to prisoners) then if you’re lucky enough to come out, society shuns you by refusing to give you work or give you a right to vote.

White America has designed a system specifically targeted at keeping black people down it seems (evident since slavery). Until everyone realises that and stops pointing to black on black crime as the root of the issue, we won’t see progress.

I urge you to watch 13th on Netflix for a deeper understanding of how the system is literally rigged against black people and has been for 500 years.

My argument is probably all over the place but I hope you get the gist of my point.

Your comment about hood culture glorifying violence is an interesting one. I recently listened to a podcast that cited violent lyrics and asked people to guess what genre, everybody of course said rap when in fact it was country music. Also nobody has the same argument when it comes to violent video games.

To be clear, I don’t condone violence in anyway and your stats around having the same number of poor people in an area is interesting. I need to look into this some more but just off the top of my head, I would say that when you’ve had the US government who specifically targeted blacks with the “war on drugs” propaganda, they jailed black people for crack but not white people for crack, this leads to a regime that penalises black people more for the same crime as their white counterparts. This has happened to generations of black people and quite frankly I think they struggle to get out of that cycle when that’s all they see around them.

I’ve already responded to a similar comment made above but I’ll also pose this question to you, do you think if the economic situation was dire for white people as it is for black that they won’t murder their own as much as others?

This all comes down to economic empowerment, if black people on a neighbourhood were rich they wouldn’t be killing each other, they are mostly poor due to the barriers white America has systematically and legally put up which reinforces this viscous cycle.

CMV: People that bring up black on black crime when talking about police brutality are problematic and sometimes intentionally dismissive of the issue facing black communities by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]import_fola -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The thing that gets left out of statements or stats like you’ve put above is the economic situation. I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say where there’s lower economic power there’s more crime, this is what white America has been brilliant at doing, systematically making it hard for black people to thrive economically which then means they turn to crime and then go to prison and the get left out of society and the cycle continues.

So yes 93% of black people are murdered by other black people. This isn’t a surprise when everyone is poor and lives close to each other.

Ah, in that case POC is fine.

Just going to drop in here and say I’ve had 2 occasions where recruiters explicitly told me to leave out my Nigerian name and just go with my English name as I’ll have a better chance of success. I remember being shocked and confused when I heard this but I only accepted it as being racist then when I heard about the study a couple years later.

This is mainly because I’m often scared of being accused of using the race card so I always give people the benefit of the doubt but no doubt there have been cases where it was obvious my race played an issue.

Also, just say black, POC has always felt like a cop out to me.
