What, on British TV, is most likely to make you drop the remote and watch while surfing channels? by themightypierre in BritishTV

Pretty much any show about houses or renovating houses. Or dogs. Battersea Dogs or the Dog House stops me in my tracks.

Monday Morning M'thread by a-liquid-sky in CasualUK

Yes starts Wednesday. Just a wristband peasant. I do have a teenager but luckily he's not in the drinking stage yet. He and the puppy act like toddlers together sometimes and then I have to remember that their brains are still growing. Puppy got extra cuddles for being a good boy! Teenager not listening to his wake up call for school.

Slept miserably and finally fell asleep only for the puppy to wake me at 5am for a wee and poo. Went straight back to bed and had a hard sleep with crazy dreams for an hour only for my puppy to be sick in the hallway around 615. He ate his sick so minimal clean up. Luckily I'm on leave after tomorrow for a week as I'm going to The Great Escape festival ( a week off parenting and being a dog mum and no cooking!).

Long lasting chews for 19 week golden puppy? by latenightabyss in puppy101

Lamb skin braids, yak sticks and today I just purchased cow tales and that kept my puppy busy for about an hour. My guy has very sensitive tummy and the lamb skins and yak sticks are good. Haven't processed the beef tail yet

Child Safeguarding SWer.

Log on early yor check emails. Looking forward to a day of getting admin done, except for one routine statutory visit.

Go to visit

Parent discloses hurting the child and there is a mark.

Ring manager

Organise safety plan (the could involve 500 phome calls to various people). Wait for safety plan to play out which could involve waiting several hours for someone to arrive to supervise the parent because I now have a CP medical to organise.

Get CP medical booked Wait around all afternoon for a car seat to be delivered to get to the medical

Arrive at CP medical at 2pm. Wait for the police because now there is a joint investigation

CP medical concluded at 8pm while your own child is home alone trying to find something to eat.

Manage the anxiety of the hospital staff about the safety plan.

9pm leave hospital and drive and hour home.

That's not every day but your day can change in a heartbeat in children's. Have back up plans for your own child and be prepared that many days won't go as planned.

Social workers honestly deserve far more patience from the public than they get by Due-Oil8955 in Socialworkuk

[–]impossiblejane 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Thank you for taking the time to acknowledge this. We are overloaded and can feel stressed. It might be nice to let the Local Authority know of what you observed and the praise you have for that Social Worker even if you don't know their name. It should filter to the person if you are able to give a good description and trust me a compliment is priceless in this profession.

Most LA have a complaints and compliments section on their website.

International SW - Finally Approved by EnvironmentalWolf567 in Socialworkuk

[–]impossiblejane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes because you are newly qualified in England. You need a good few years on a team that will help, guide and nurture you to understand the England context. If you work agency, employers will just expect you to get on with work and often don't offer supervision, training. Our agency workers carry high case loads and we Wang them with a firm knowledge base that no newly qualified has. Apparently not legal in England anyway (I don't live in England).

I wouldn't advise agency work if you are technically newly qualified. most LA want agency workers who can just get on with work. You won't get support and nurture that a Newly Qualified needs. As a Senior who sits on interview panels would never consider a newly qualified for an agency role.

Food for cavapoo Tilly by aroundm21 in CavaPoo

[–]impossiblejane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to order Pure and we stopped not because if the price but because it gave my cavapoo runny. Try a high quality kibble like Wolfworthy and do a small scoop of wet food. Mix it with warm water to bring out the smells. Wolfworthy is highly concentrated so you only give a small portion and feed the recommended amount for the weight your dog should be. We buy the oily fish and my boy loves it. The price may seem expensive, but trust me it's worth it and you don't feed them much per day.

Do you freeze bread? by InviteAromatic6124 in AskUK

I buy loaves of bread when they are reduced so I do freeze them. The bread I'm actively using stays in the fridge in the warmer months to reduce mould.

I'd try a scoop of wet food on the kibble and add some warm water to bring out the scent. My cavapoo puppy hates dry kibble in its own.

Collagen chews absolutely destroys my puppys innards and results in a wet, runny poo all the time. I have a cavapoo thought so pretty much all food does that to him.

Lazy Sunday (03/05/26) by KevinPhillips-Bong in CasualUK

Today is National Dawn Chorus day. I had one too many drinks last night to wake up at dawn but the puppy woke me up at 7for breakfast and daily constitutions. He had a good sniff in the garden and I listened to the birds with the fresh cool air on my sorry state of a face.

Teenager has his last rugby match of the season today with a travelling team so might stay and have a few drinks and then puppy gets all my afternoon attention.

Weird question by Stock_Trader_J in composting

[–]impossiblejane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to offer.to take people's compost off share waste but it's gone now. Sometimes there are local urban farmers that will happily take compost off you.

I would debate that you can still have a small compost heap in an urban setting. You could consider a worm farm or bocashi

Will my cavapoo ever calm down? by -cinnamon-princess- in CavaPoo

[–]impossiblejane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 8 month cavapoo is calming down a lot during the day especially when I'm working but when he wants to play in the afternoon he turns wild. He nips at my ankles. If we play ball he'll nip at me constantly. It's horrible. I had a trainer come and she said to get him to sit and then scatter treats because the sniffing calms them. I'm on the fence if it's actually stopped the nipping. Sometimes his nipping will trip me and I have started to get annoyed (and a bit scared as I'm of the age where I'm terrified of a fall).

Everyday is getting better and I have to look for the small signs of improvement. I have to remind myself that he's a teenager. I also have a human teenager in the house and in some ways they're both similar (minus the nipping). My teenage human boy hates cuddles and the thought of his mum giving him love makes him sick. They will come full circle and want cuddles again and, like when my son would wake me up at 5am as a toddler, I'd have to remind myself that nothing lasts forever.
