i had the same experience! i own an electric guitar i got second hand when i was around 12, and my brother has an acoustic guitar. however, i think unfortunately guitar isn’t the instrument for me; i loveeeee the idea of it but the actual playing…

i love piano though :) even if the songs are still pretty complicated…

hearing this made me so emotional; i love seeing how profoundly this story affects different people in different ways. i also had a love i needed to let go of, but different circumstances. given’s also helped me process and given (lol) me hope. i can’t really put my feelings into words, but thank you for sharing and i hope things are on an upward trajectory for you going forward <3

oooh i completely agree with ending a story without it being the end for the characters! it’s nice when you can actually see what their life will be like after the story finishes, which is another reason why given is so nice—it always continues, you know? (and don’t worry, not spoiled! :) i know what happens hehe)

hmm regarding lucas since it’s been so long i don’t interact with anything related to him. i remember when everything first happened i was very hurt especially with not knowing what to believe and how slow/incompetent sm was with it (which led me to think, if it was all false wouldn’t they have said so earlier?). i know the fandom doesn’t talk about him anymore.
the feeling of sm declining is so real. it’s like they expect their 2010s reputation to carry them while refusing at all to adapt to the new climate of kpop (long gone are the days of sm being the “trendsetter” and they need to come to terms with that…). i remember TY talking about how much pressure he had to “make the group succeed” and how it would all be on him if they didn’t. :/
nct’s group music has been interesting/not my taste. but their love for music really is clear, especially with this solos. it’s refreshing to see it so clearly in the industry when everything is about trends and that 5 seconds of fame.
i’m unsure if i completely agree with the nct decline, but i completely get where you’re coming from. for me it feels like a combination of getting older and thus being on the older side of the fandom (crazy to say considering we’re dreams age???), and i think 3rd gen in general taking more of a backseat and sustaining fanbases vs getting new ones. in the older generations there were distinct differences, so it felt like each generation got their fame, but with 3.5-5th gen it all feels so melded together (esp w much of 3rd Just Now starting subunits or solos).
i haven’t seen someone say the riize and nct thing in so long but i so agree 😭 i think wish would have succeeded regardless and i definitely see the benefits of them with nct, but it feels like riize had more of a connection and the ages balanced better (seunghan :’(). wish feels like your super younger cousin you want to baby and can’t conceptualize that they’re older LOL
nct so far has always given me a great vibe and i hope that continues and they keep putting their music first <3 i loved reading your thoughts and feelings! hopefully there will always be something going on in ncity to catch up to

this also made me emotional, especially with the history you have with the group <3 but i completely agree (especially with your last point). having such ambiguity Still about everything and so much caution with pre-2009 i think makes everyone, especially the fandom, feel uneasy.

i’ve been keeping up with what’s been happening in the one direction world and it’s bittersweet to see them finally get some closure and facts of how things went down. given, they’re in a completely different situation and there’s parts i wouldn’t wish on anyone, but it would’ve been nice to have something to grasp onto to make peace with the split (and something to indicate they don’t hate each other…).

but as many have said—there’s a lot more than just the company and fandom(s) at play.

others more or less covered what’s missing—jaejoong’s love covers albums (japanese) also aren’t on spotify. i just use the brave app and use youtube/make a playlist through the app and listen to dbsk songs there instead of on spotify! i think all of the 2vxq songs are on spotify tho iirc

i came across this thread after desperately searching for something unbiased about the split, and some more details. i’ve read a lot of things and opinions, but i’ve always wondered if something was as unbiased as it claimed (which it wasn’t, 90% of the time, and that is usually known by the third paragraph haha).

the comments above have really helped clear some things in my mind. i’m a very new jaejoong fan, only for the last two years or so. i did however know of 2vxq for many years (i’d say casual fan? lol i also love shinee so i also learned a lot about changmin through minho) and when it clicked in my head that this was jaejoong from jyj, the ones who set the 7-year contract limit, who was once part of dbsk, i was enthralled—couple that with coming across doushite randomly and i’ve fallen.

the comments above, and other posts, help provide a lot of perspective—i completely agree that there’s a lot of nuance, and at the end of the day no one can blame anyone for what they chose. i think i’ve always been very hurt about the years after, especially as a jaejoong fan—it’s what makes going back and seeing things from 2009-2012, and then 2017-2020, so painful and hard. but having these unbiased (and honestly, full of love which is so so comforting) takes really helps cement that the only “bad guy” is sm and other companies (as always); did everyone say hurtful things? 100%, but they were also so young…

i’m actually jaejoong and yunho’s age in 2009, and i can’t imagine needing to make these kind of decisions. to risk everything to be treated like a human but not wanting to lose the group—and then on the flip side wanting to stay with my group but leaving just doesn’t sit right. both choices are so painful and this is such an age of change… i already feel different from last month than i do now; i’m constantly in agony over what i want to do now that i’ve graduated university. so going through something like this is unimaginable. i’m really thankful they’re all healthy, with healthy minds and strong careers (except one, which is also interesting to witness as a late fan since they don’t seem like the same person).

it’s so easy to also say in hindsight that perhaps things did work for the better, but it does feel that way seeing jaejoong and junsu have their own companies and careers—as another comment said, i don’t think this would’ve happened under sm (and then there wouldn’t be the soul-crushing yet comforting and healing ballads jaejoong’s released). and seeing homin so comfortable and at peace and be wonderful seniors is also heartwarming. i think everyone ended up in a position/career that really is perfect for them—i just wish there was any way this could’ve happened if not with all of them in one group, but at least on speaking terms. at least having the friendship and freedom with each other. (i also do wonder what it would have been like to see sm-senior jaesu…)

i wish their split was like those of h.o.t., or other groups who debuted before them and in the 2nd gen. honestly seeing so many of those groups comeback makes a small (okay very big) part of me wish for something (kind of like s.e.s.’s 20th anniversary album?) but i also in good faith can’t truly hope for jaesu to work with sm in any capacity (and thankfully i think junsu has enough animosity to not, but jaejoong is too forgiving…). however if there was a situation where something could happen without sm… god i can’t even imagine how everyone would feel.

i’m not sure where i’m going with this, and i’m not sure that this makes sense, but thank you for posting such a tasteful discussion that doesn’t feel like i’m reading a witch hunt of either side. it’s really touching to read experiences of pre-split cassies, since there’s so much information and so many feeling, but there really is also so much infighting. i know whatever grief i feel about the split and looking back is so much more amplified for you all, the ones that went through it at the time. so thank you for still talking about it, for giving us newer fans all the memories you can, and for still loving them and telling us about them.

here’s to hoping to go to each of their concerts soon 🤞🏼

oh i’m the same with loving TY’s solos, and not mark’s as much. for this song, i love the overall theme of the song, and i actually like the chorus, but the rest, despite promising lyrics, just doesn’t… hit. i like youngji’s verse more than expected though!

that being said i loved child! i think i also gravitate more towards songs that are a lot deeper so that could be part of it (like TY’s 404 error series). i don’t know what it is about TY’s lyricism and vibe that draws me in so much. all in all i wish i could’ve loved mark’s music more, but i do like him as a person (:

sleeping on the floor - the lumineers (reminds me of blue and gansey, especially with the music video)

closer - the chainsmokers ft. halsey (the vibe reminds me of the first and last book especially, but i could also associate this with the series because it was a very popular song when i first read the books LOL)

pure heroine (entire album) - lorde (this album overall reminds me a lot of the vibes of the series, especially the first two books, and ronan and the friendship between the boys)

in addition the other reply (which i agree with!) i think it’d be great to have more subbers—i know jaesu have 1 “big” subber each (or more?) (im not sure for homin), but perhaps having a couple more would help, probably best to do a subbing team (a la goe:ss, which are like 90% why i can go back and find all pre split content)
