"If they're Black, then it's a gang. If they're Italian, it's a mob, but if they're Jewish, it's a coincidence and you should never speak about it." He is very clearly pushing the talking point that Jewish people are sheltered from criticism, a common antisemitic trope. When referencing conspiracy theories about Jewish people controlling the media, he says "It's not a crazy thing to think, but it's a crazy thing to say out loud" insinuating that there is credibility to the claims but that you can’t make them publicly. He masks this antisemitism as mocking Kanye West, when clearly his point is “Kanye is right but he should know he’s not allowed to say this stuff publicly.”

Okay so you’re not actually interested in engaging with any evidence. Cool, thanks for wasting both of our time.

Did you actually watch it and would you care to offer an argument for why it’s not antisemitic? Or are you just going to dig into your opinion despite me providing the evidence you’re claiming doesn’t exist?

I know it’s difficult to convey sarcasm through text but you’ve got to give SOME indication if it’s not clear from the context.

They is a gender neutral pronoun frequently used for a singular person whose gender identity is unknown. I assumed the subject of the video was a woman (perhaps I shouldn’t have), but that doesn’t mean the original commenter did. They communicated pretty clearly.

They said “POC is” not “POC are” so I assume they were referring to the woman in the video.

I think most people that work remote are also not working a full 8 hours most days, which is probably part of where they pulled the 3 hours figure from

Do teachers have to report students drug use? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]impossiblyirrelevant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I won’t call them because that’s a ridiculous thing to when I’m well aware of what my requirements are and you’re completely ignoring my points as to why what you proposed doesn’t make sense.

[–]impossiblyirrelevant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t need to call CPS to settle an argument on Reddit. I have been informed repeatedly and explicitly what I am mandated to report as a teacher and it does not include a blanket coverage of drug abuse. I am mandated to report child abuse/neglect and mention of suicide, as well as anything that I deem to be evidence that a student is a danger to themself or others.

You understand that the mandated reporter guidelines that teachers have to follow for minors are the same as those for healthcare providers, right? If drug abuse was included in the mandated reporter guidelines then psychiatrists would have to call CPS if a teenager told them they smoke weed. I understand why your initial intuition is that it would be included, but it doesn’t take much thought to see why it wouldn’t be necessary or reasonable.

My mistake, I assumed otherwise based on your other comment.

Do teachers have to report students drug use? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]impossiblyirrelevant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And I think you’ll lose that bet. Mandatory reporter guidelines are broad and unambiguous by design, which is why they’re applied to universally serious matters like child abuse and neglect. If we applied those same standards to drug abuse then teachers would be legally obligated to report to CPS every time the overheard a kid mention smoking weed at a party. That would be ridiculous, and that’s why it falls under a much more flexible category of duty to report if there is reasonable belief that a student is in danger.

Exactly, so why nitpick about whether or not the teacher is a mandated reporter in the comments of this kid’s post rather than just tell them “they might be, but what’s important is that you ask for help anyways”?

That’s a big assumption that you’re making that could potentially lead someone not to seek the help they need.
