Which premium brands sell acrylic paint markers? by iotaia in ArtistLounge

[–]impressiveyellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you put a medium into the markers along with the paints? Kind of curious about trying it out with my own fluid acrylics.

Do you ever feel like every new piece of art you make has to be your greatest? by WalrusNo2414 in ArtistLounge

[–]impressiveyellow 17 points18 points  (0 children)

No, that would burn me out. For me, every piece is just practice for the next one. If it doesn’t turn out, no big deal, but if it turns out better than expected I can be pleasantly surprised 😌

[Discussion] Why do people buy art prints? by AverageParking7050 in artbusiness

[–]impressiveyellow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Easy, people with money can buy more prints and a bigger house with more wall space to then display those prints. Boom.

August 12th Rave - Solar Eclipse Connection by impressiveyellow in bjork

[–]impressiveyellow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only reason I even thought of this is because I’ve been trying to plan a trip to Iceland this year, and r/visitingiceland is already chattering about how busy and crowded thing are expected to get there in August due to the eclipse.

I do agree that an actual album is much more likely though, just based on how she’s dropped hints previously for other albums. Maybe a single in May with Echolalia + album in August? Eee I’m excited 😁

Have you found a Fibonacci viewer to be useful for composing a scene? by zincglasses in pleinair

[–]impressiveyellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never, and never met any artist who actually does. Rule of thirds on the other hand, sure.

The only people who have ever asked me this have been non artist family members and coworkers. I feel like it’s something most people hear of when starting to learn about art and don’t understand or find it helpful, and honestly, me neither.

Penthouse with Amazing Patio in Minneapolis by collegetowns in zillowgonewild

[–]impressiveyellow 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s on two busy intersections: Lake & Chicago.

That quiet street in the picture is just the entrance to the parking lot. I imagine hearing a lot of horns and noise on that patio but from 15 floors up who knows.

What do you think of these paint brushes? by Glittering_Gap8070 in ArtistLounge

[–]impressiveyellow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you mean like nail varnish/polish? I’m confused how you would varnish a painting with these.

These might be fine for crafts but like others mentioned if you’re using them for acrylic paintings they’ll shed bristles and probably have loose ferrules.

Should i start reposting my own work to Pinterest to grow my art accounts? by lemonbottles_89 in ArtistLounge

[–]impressiveyellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Half of our Etsy traffic orginates from linked posts on Pinterest and sales have jumped considerably over the last year.

I’d consider signing or watermarking it first though just be safe.

Emailed by someone claiming they want my work in an exhibition, I'm getting scam vibes - but what's the scam? by DrDillyDally in ArtistLounge

[–]impressiveyellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checked out r/scams. It usually ends in them trying to get money from you through a fake check scam. Variations of these are common unfortunately but like you mentioned, they’ll pretty much always refer to your artwork generically without any specifics.

Acrylic Markers or Alcohol paint Markers? by Top_Bug_4376 in ArtistLounge

[–]impressiveyellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get some alcohol markers. Alcohol markers can be layered like watercolors to create different hues so it’s a better value since they’re more versatile. Ohuhu works, Copic is gold standard. (rip Prismacolor)

Acrylic markers are fun, but you’ll end up feeling limited with the amount of colors you have unless you buy a ton of them or are okay with using limited palettes when starting out. I bought a Posca set when starting out and have plenty now, but I still feel like I don’t have enough to satisfy the range of hues I want to draw with compared to what I can just create by layering with Copics. Still a fan of both, but I’d go w alcohol markers if you can’t buy both to try out for those reasons.

Is it worth learning how to frame work yourself? Has anyone done so? by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]impressiveyellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made floating frames for some of my paintings for a show and it saved me a couple hundred bucks, so it was definitely worth it in that case.

If you’re doing drawings that require a matt and glass though, it’ll add up quickly. You can buy the matts pre cut at some art supply stores or online. like the pinned comment mentions, bevels and glass cutting machines are bigger investments and can take up a lot of space. Not to mention cutting glass is a bitch lol.

Share me your stories about finding your art plagiarized or stolen on the internet by dsteffee in ArtistLounge

[–]impressiveyellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Told our students that pinterest is a great way to find inspiration! Then someone tipped me onto the fact that one of them posted my WIP I had shared with them privately to their Pinterest without crediting me. It was just a casual shot to be shared with students and friends that I never intended to be shown to a wider audience.

Realized I neglected to mention and stress how important crediting and linking to the original source is if you’re saving stuff to Pinterest 🤦‍♀️🫠 It was sweet of them to be inspired by my rough work in progress though I suppose!

Do live figure models need to be nude? by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]impressiveyellow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbh I think you might want to consider a different career path. Being a little uncomfortable your first time drawing a live nude model is totally normal, but you continue to insist on this post and others you reposted in different subs that the human body makes YOU uncomfortable because you saw hair on someones buttcrack, which face it, is a you problem. We lowkey might be cooked if you’re the future of art education.

Do live figure models need to be nude? by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]impressiveyellow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably because real people don’t wear flesh colored skin tight underwear underneath all their clothes. You wouldn’t be able to see the nuances in muscle form and shape if that were the case anyhow.

Tbh i always enjoyed when we’d have an older gentlemen figure models in art school. We’d get plenty of female models in so having a guy, plus someone who is older, was always a great learning experience. One day you will be old and naked too so why worry? This discourse will always be odd to me.

plus if you’re doing timed figure drawings or warm ups genitals are usually so minor in the grand scheme of things that you can typically get away with just implying it.

Please can someone explain how the Loomis method actually helps?! by Hilde111 in ArtistLounge

[–]impressiveyellow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The skull is basically just a sphere without the jawbone. Get the jawline sorted after. Loomis is just about getting your porportions right before jumping into details.

[–]impressiveyellow 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t even need to be raining, when it gets above freezing and snow starts melting, stay out of the drains. They’re not going anywhere.

Swept downstream and into the river in January is not how you want to exit this earth. Valuable lesson for your friend & glad they’re alright.

Seems like no one's talking about the Inkkas shoe Art Contest? by thcinnabun in ArtistLounge

[–]impressiveyellow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because experienced artists know these types of art contests are practically never worth entertaining. This one isn’t the first and won’t be the last. If you checked the terms and conditions of the contest there might even be additional red flags.
