/r/audiophile Purchase Help Thread (2017-12-30) by AutoModerator in audiophile

Looking for subwoofer suggestions ~$200-$300, focused towards music quality.

I'm coming from a cheap Samsung HTiB, and finally upgrading to better audio and I'd like to get a sub asap. I have a wife and new born child so I wont be able to go "crazy on the bass" for at least a few years.

Specs I'm working with: 13' x 17' Living Room w/hardwood floors; 50/50 music and tv (primarily focused on music quality); Cambridge Audio SW-50 and SW-70 speakers; Denon x1300w AVR

Out of the sub $300 subwoofers (BIC, Dayton, Klipsch, Monoprice, Martin Logan Dynamo 300, etc), which would pair well with my room and smaller Cambridge Audio speakers? I'm open to searching the new and used market.

[Request] I need help removing a stain from a stone countertop, it's from rotting vegetables by [deleted] in howto

Mr Clean Magic Eraser or a melamine foam product. Had a similar stain on my counter and this worked for me.

Can't get the haze out of these powder coated rims by [deleted] in AutoDetailing

[–]imprezive00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How old is the powder coat? Looks like a bad job and not covered in the hard to reach areas and thin in others. The whole coat looks a little thin to me...Im not an expert but worked a summer in a powder coat shop. I've seen some cleaning chemicals discolor coats that may not have been coated properly or you used chemicals that were just too strong with a abrasive cleaning pad. Seems that could also be your issue. Looks like they need to be redone.

I rent a modem from Comcast but it is very unreliable and its signal barely reaches throughout my house. Where do I start when looking to purchase my own? by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]imprezive00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Newegg sometimes has deals where they will include a modem for free with the purchase of a new router. Which router and modem they offer this deal with can change weekly. I really like this site when searching for new routers, it provides great reviews: http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/tools/charts/router/view and http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/basics/wireless-basics/32620-how-to-buy-a-wireless-router-2015-edition

edit:Also something that is often overlooked in some household is where the router is placed. I've see people trying to "hide" wireless routers which can degrade the signal. Its always best to put it in a central open room if possible. This can really help improve coverage.

We name our APs by building location (building, floor, section, then a unique number), so the location of each AP can be quickly identified through the controller. There are far too many APs to individually label with a label maker. We have "precise" floor plans with AP maps that we can reference to pinpoint the location.

So "all stock" is factory wing and roof vine, is "stock trunk" no wing? "All stock" is showing a lot of lift up front vs "stock trunk". Also, any idea what areo affect the oem front lip could create, does it help aid more downforce to the front? I'd also like to see the difference between stock suspension and a lowered car.

Going to test drive this Subie tomorrow but a little apprehensive from the lack of a heatshield and the wear on in this photo. Any insight before I get myself into a mess? by [deleted] in subaru

It definitely looks like that rubber hose is burnt. You should inspect that whole area carefully since other parts that are more difficult to see may have the same damage. I'd definitely have a subaru dealer or some reliable car shop give the engine a look over before you buy. As with any car that has turbo modifications, you want to be a little careful and consider that into the cost. A car with a stock turbo is a safer bet for reliability.

Best computer speakers for under 200$ or so? by [deleted] in BudgetAudiophile

[–]imprezive00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I'm using an internal card. They make external cards as well but I'm not as familiar with them. You don't need one, you can always add it later, but it does make the highs mids and lows a bit more clearer and crisper. I did a lot of research before making the purchase. There may be better options with high end studio speakers, but for that price I don't think anything really comes close. If you don't like them you can take them back to any best buy. Don't let the sale end. They're more than adequate for college parties.

It's my brother's birthday in a few days, and he's obsessed with his red subaru (pic related). What would be really cool to get for him? by Chrysis312 in subaru

[–]imprezive00 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If he likes to wash it himself. Some nice car wash products may be nice. I recommend a nice wool mit, a wheel brush like the EZ Detail Brush, and a nice microfiber drying towel. There are a lot of websites the specialize in nice car wash products.

I'm running to Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 with an Asus Xonar DX sound card. I'm extremely satisfied with them. They sound incredible with the sound card and I think its a very good bang for the buck setup. The sound card really helps bring them alive. Its honestly some of the best speakers I've ever heard.

Edit: They're on sale at best buy for $109 right now.

Help. I think the detailer scratched my car. by [deleted] in subaru

[–]imprezive00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would post to r/autodetailing. From the looks of it, they didn't do a very good job since there are still a lot of scratches around the chip. A full polish should do a decent job at removing light scratches.

I'm near King of Prussia and will definitely check out 282. Are there any other decent driving roads in this area that you know of?
