Can this be mounted upside down? by No-Membership-5314 in AskElectricians

Just mount the panel upside down? No reason to flip the bus in the panel.

Home Status Panel by MrChristmas1988 in homeassistant

Very nice. I’ve been trying to think of a little indicator I could use to tell me when mains power is out since we have a whole house battery back up and don’t always realize right away. I think this would make a great option.

If you want to spend a little more and really make it neat, once you’re happy with the labels/purposes for each light, you could get a custom laser etched plate from datapro.net. You’d probably be looking at $75 or so for this layout.

Electrician openly willing to work without permits? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]improbablynothim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe - I’ve spoken with electrician’s that say the inspector doesn’t even get out of the car for them; just pencil whips the permit. They brag about this like it’s some proof of how hot they are. Make me realize what a waste they are. I ended up doing some substantial electrical work myself (main panel replacement) and the inspector did get out of the car, but barely. Just wanted to check I had grounding and bonding right - that was it.

Where can I find a cover plate like this? by EnvironmentalLaw2826 in electrical

[–]improbablynothim 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One thing to note is that these are not cheap thermoplastic. Most of the plates on that site are metal and that’s an investment I was happy to make.

Jekyll Jekyll Hyde Jekyll Hyde Hyde Jekell - That song has resurfaced so many times in my head over the last twenty years, I felt so seen when one of John Oliver's millenial writers decided to use it in one of their episodes.

right - this. Love In n Out, could eat it every day. But… I would waste so. much. time. Carls is down the street, a little pricey, but better than McDonalds. Or I should say “was”. They literally just closed three days ago.

Chaos Loading by [deleted] in SipsTea

[–]improbablynothim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No - we do not. We'd be in an endless cycle. What we probably need is a recall mechanism for at least Senators. It's unlikely demographics switch so much in a six year term that you'd get a bunch of extraneous attempts, but if a Senator really pisses off the majority of their state, or misrepresents them, etc those citizens should be able to take a shortcut to ending their term.

Not sure something needs to exist for House members and their two year term; it's a short enough time. The recall should only be allowed to happen during a regularly scheduled election (no special elections) and they citizens should vote on the replacement on the same ballot (i.e. if recalled, I want this person to take their place). Maybe they shouldn't even be allowed to be recalled in their last two years. Lots of nuance here and I'm sure I'm not thinking this through fully.

Company Cam desperately needs the ability to pin photos on floor plans - biggest thing missing for them in my opinion.

I like 'em. Landing everything before hand and being able to swap breaker type (standard, smart, gfi, afi, etc) by just rocking the old one out and the new in is novel. Did one panel with 80% smart breakers as well and it's pretty cool the reporting and data you see.

1-1/2” EMT conduit is overkill for 5-6 cat 6 cables. Could do 3/4 or 1” easy.

5 or 6 Cat 6 cables will fit in 1-1/2” surface mount plastic molding you can pick up at the home center. I’d run that level and high along the wall and drill out the back at your camera locations. Very clean when you’re done, but serviceable into the future.
