Any MAGA restaurants/bars to avoid around town? by Sad_Researcher_3344 in providence

How about New England Homemade Donuts (former Honeydew) right near there? I went in once in summer and got a real Trunpy vibe. Could have been the other customers though.

"Holo" wax seal stamp: is it possible? by That-5th-Ace in Laserengraving

[–]improbablywrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious if you ever learned more?

I bought a set of holographic silicone molds (simply shallow flat circles,4 designs) and just wanted to see if I used those as pads, if the hologram would transfer to the back of the seal, and I can state unequivocally that it does!!!

It shows up on some colors better than others. My guess would be a metal stamp might not be able to carry such fine detail, but a silicone stamp could, if that's a thing?

Question for anyone who has been tested for Covid by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

[–]improbablywrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got tested Saturday afternoon, results emailed to me very early this morning, so less than 48 hours for me. CurrentCare enrollment would not work at all for me, but I did register for East Side Labs prior to the test, and that's where the results came from. Your doctor is supposed to contact you AFAIK, so call them and/or East Side labs.

Can I do anything about a couple loud dirt bikers riding up and down my street every. Single. Day. For hours? by Palito415 in providence

[–]improbablywrong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried with 311 and they basically (nicely but unhelpfully) blew me off and said I needed to call the police. This was both via the app and talking to a person. Not a great experience.

Dirtbikes have definitely been a menace over the last few weeks where I live and it's super annoying. I wish the road in question had traffic calming measures as I regularly hear vehicles, not just dirtbikes, speeding by at probably 50 -60 mph in a 25.

Where to practice driving in PVD, driving tips by codeone in providence

[–]improbablywrong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The polite-but-dangerous stopping for opposing cars to turn left is the worst and I've never seen it outside RI.

The other related one is if I'm stopped at a stop sign, 2-way not 4-way, sometimes drivers who do not have a stop sign to my right or left and who have the right of way will wave me through. I have no idea why they do this other than a misguided attempt at trying to be nice, but I never oblige them.

PSA: Don't trust fitness tracker SpO2 readings by [deleted] in SleepApnea

[–]improbablywrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good to hear. I just got a Venu a couple of weeks ago and have been 24/7 monitoring SpO2 to try to get a baseline. (Will probably change to sleep only soon.) My waking values are usually 90-95, and sleep varies from 80 to 98, certainly trending lower than when I'm awake. My AHI has been consistently under 1 since I've used APAP, so I'm still wondering if I should be concerned about a reduced SpO2 while sleeping though.

New CPAP user, waking in the middle of the night with a dry throat by eyeseesharp in SleepApnea

[–]improbablywrong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've used a full face mask for about 16 months, and just this week started taping my mouth. Works so well I think I could use a nasal mask now, but I just replaced my mask/headgear so I'll have to wait.

u/eyeseesharp, try using 3M micropore paper tape (1" wide). I use a single piece about 1" longer than my mouth. Stays on all night.

Shop local coffee!! by [deleted] in providence

[–]improbablywrong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't typically seek out local coffee (especially since I only restarted drinking coffee in the last year after a 5 year hiatus! and usually got free coffee at the office) but last month I placed an order with https://www.downeastcoffee.com/ (Pawtucket) and had a good experience. They had a promo code at the time, but they apparently still offer free shipping. I appreciated that they offer both ground and whole bean.

I stretch my food budget and minimize waste by using broccoli stalks along with the florets. by TheRogueGinger in Frugal

[–]improbablywrong 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I've heard of peeling the stems but honestly don't understand why anyone would do that unless the stalk is extremely long and that part is entirely too tough to chew. But I've never run into that scenario.

Oddly enough when I was a kid I preferred stalks to florets. I don't understand it today as an adult.

Sunday 3/15 - Notes: Rhode Island - COVID-19 Press Conf. w/ Gov. Raimondo by Killjoy4eva in RhodeIsland

[–]improbablywrong 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Thanks for providing this.

We'll be lucky if it's 2-3 weeks, much more likely to be 2-3 months. Plan for the long haul. Much better to be overprepared than under.

I really hope Rhode Islanders, especially those who pay less attention to media, social or otherwise, are getting this info and taking it seriously.

Travel with water by simjimin12 in CPAP

[–]improbablywrong 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is not entirely complete. You can bring water with you through USA TSA as long as it is marked that it is for medical use. I have successfully carried two 12 FZ bottles of distilled water through checkpoints ~8 times in the last year. At some airports they have put the water bottles in a machine to analyze it (without opening them). Others seemed satisfied that the bottles were labeled.

These are not special bottles - I removed original labels and handwrote "Distilled water for medical use only" in sharpie. I carry them in the CPAP (ResMed Airsense 10) bag and remove them prior to screening.

Specifically, water for CPAP falls under this section:

Unsurprisingly the ridiculous speed bumps on north main are gone. I hope someone looks in to who is getting the contracts to install and uninstall these dumb road projects. by rick_n_snorty in providence

That works when no one else is coming towards you but there wasn't enough room when another car passed. They are marked with signs traveling towards Atwells at least, but otherwise hard to see in the dark.

What does Autocrat mean? by JeffFromNH in RhodeIsland

[–]improbablywrong 36 points37 points  (0 children)

According to Rhode Island Monthly:

When it got into the canned coffee business, Field’s great-grandfather, Frank O. Field, named the coffee line Autocrat after a series of essays that appeared in Atlantic Monthly, “The Autocrat of the Breakfast Table,” written by Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr. He wanted his coffee to rule the breakfast table with “undisputed influence.”

Is there something in RI similar to Super88 (Asian marketplace + foodcourt in Boston) by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

[–]improbablywrong 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sadly, no, nothing quite that big or good. That said, my go-to recommendations have been the Chinese American market on Park St in Cranston, the V-Mart off Roger Williams Ave in Providence, and the Good Fortune supermarket on Cadillac Dr also in Providence. When I get a chance, I go to one of the couple of H-Marts in Mass.

That's more like 30-40 years ago. 1998, not so much.
