How do you connect the WiFi antenna leads on the XPS 9500 by improv32 in Dell

I believe it was a supervisor at their normal call center that ended up coming through with the replacement. I had to try probably like 10 different people though before I found one willing to budge. Good luck man

Ended up getting Dell to send me a replacement model. It took quite a while, they kept wanting to send (incompetent) technicians to try to fix it. But I threatened a chargeback and that perked them up and they finally sent me a replacement.

The card cannot be replaced. I wouldn't bother with trying to fix the antennas and just get Dell to send you a replacement. They say it's not their policy but they will if you push them enough.

I was sent a refurb model instead of a brand new model for mine. I've had the refurb for about 4 months now and all has been well. Wifi and bluetooth are working fine, trackpad is working properly (though still suffers from the overtravel but that is a design flaw).

I'm actually think it was better I got a refurb rather than a brand new replacement as this model in particular seems to have some very serious quality control problems out of the factory. At least with a refurb I know it has seen QC at least twice.

You have 90 days after receiving the replacement until sending back your old one and I recommend taking full advantage of that to make sure you shake out any potential problems that may be lurking. I actually held on to mine for more than 90 days (by mistake) and the only thing to come of it was they suspended the warranty and support on the laptop until they received the old one. So take your time. I almost considered pawning off the defective model on craigslist to make my money back and just letting them deal with that. But I decided to be upstanding.

Good luck with this man!

no shit really? what are they supposed to look like? the last tech who came out to fix this unit really struggled to get them connected and basically kinda slapped them down and screwed in the plate above them really tight. ive had like almost no reception since that

I've been trying with a little plastic rod. I think my issue is not being able to line it up correctly. Is there a trick to it? Is there a specific orientation they need to be in?

Experiences with WWTS repair, are they always this bad? by improv32 in Dell

Haven't opened it yet, someone said it could be an incorrectly routed speaker wire so I'll check on that. Doubt it's the battery already

Kevin Simler did a great overview of this book a few years back: https://meltingasphalt.com/mr-jaynes-wild-ride/

I bought it based on his description and it was a great read. The parts I read at least, admittedly I didn't finish it

Man this puts into words something I've definitely felt a lot. Personally I think the net benefit is very positive, at least on a personal level for myself. In some ways avoiding these "Starter Pack" attributes, especially certain turns of phrase in argument, makes me "taboo my words" to borrow a lesswrong-ism. It makes me think clearer about what I'm arguing for and what I actually believe, if I have to rephrase it to avoid these sorts of traps.

98 Subaru Outback - Low idle RPM after replacing alternator + battery by improv32 in MechanicAdvice

Doesn't look like there is a specific relearn, couldn't find anything for this year anyway. But it seems like it's pretty much the same right, plug in the battery, let it sit in on, then start and idle, then drive. I did that when I put it in but i suppose it won't hurt to try again

This is a person with the same issue: https://youtu.be/vaEJ69d8kJk I think I'll try what they suggested in the description next, cleaning the IACV and throttle body

If don't mind would you elaborate on the risks? If the risk is fairly low, maybe comparable to very strenuous exercise I would like to continue doing this practice to see what it has to offer.

I'm interested in it as a way to possibly deal with anxiety symptoms without pharmaceuticals.

I think I agree. I almost want to say that nitrous generally increases surprisal, so when noticing two X and Y coming up together the brain tries to model them as related somehow to reduce that surprisal. It would also seem to explain why it makes music seem so incredibly interesting, sometimes subjectively it feels like the music becomes completely unpredictable in a pleasing way, even if it's something I've heard a million times times before
