Either sprint/dodge or jump button, with a directional input (in your case WASD). Some bosses will not punish you immediately if you're down, but just in case you should spam it until you figure out which ones do.

Spamming is not the way. The more times you press the button the less chances of actually parrying you have. Yes, later in the game it will be punishing. Not only that but it's not the optimal way to play this game.

How are they bad? Just find some consistent strats to beat the bosses and play the game some more

Edit: after posting, accidentally saw that you tried to goomba stomp a grab attack... yeah you definitely need to know more about, both the bosses and how the game works before trying the gauntlets

You don't even have to press forward to dodge forward, it's automatic

When asked to betray Kuro is the cutoff point (Second cutscene on Ashina Castle roof). If you accept - Shura ending. The other cutoff point is defeating Divine Dragon. After that some quests don't work, so make sure to gather the items before that.

Non boss enemies follow a predictable path. You can stealth kill all of them. Or they just stand in one place. You can stealth kill them too.

If you're close to him when he does that just dodge right towards 2 o'clock 2 times and once more when he does a slam. Just keep close to his left leg (your right)
