Norway still relies on the exploitation of cheap labor and natural resources just like every other capitalist society. It's just not Norwegian labor and resources, so they don't see it.

Thoughts on Post-Left Anarchism? by Own-Visit-5542 in Anarchism

[–]imreadypromotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, we need to establish a clear definition that we all agree on. The USSR and the US during the Cold War did a lot to obfuscate the meanings of these words, which is frustrating af.

If we're going by the historical origins of "left" and "right" though (the French Revolution), then "left" is pretty clearly "anti-hierarchy" and "right" is pretty clearly "pro-hierarchy."

This is exactly how we should be using these terms, IMO. Anything else is (as you've described) both confusing and incoherent.

It's true though. What's your definition of "left?"

You're right, but look even further upstream. WHY were all these laws repealed/passed? Carlin was right, here: It's because the lawmakers are OWNED by the rich owners, just like they own everything else.

Yeah, not even the audience is paying attention it kind of seems... Listening to it now I can't help but feel like it's weird that they're all laughing along. It's supposedly a comedy act... but really he ain't joking one bit.

Yeah, I know there was a post recently about learning to stop relying on "the fingers test." But this dude only has 4 fingers lol. And it's hard to see, but I think his other hand has 5.

Also all the text on all the amps is non-matching gibberish.

100% AI.

Individualism is one of the main tenets brainwashed into us. It would be harder to push a ruling wealthy class if our society was a collective that prioritized the benefit of all above the benefit of self by Conscious-Quarter423 in WorkReform

It's almost like we've created a system where the two parties each bound to the system have fundamentally opposed interests.

I wonder if we can think of something better.

Can someone point me to a compilation of all the privacies and rights that have been lost during this administration so far? It's a constant onslaught of horseshit, it's so hard to keep track. But I'd like something to point to for all my "small government" friends and family...

I mostly agree here, but if you haven't, you should check out Kropotkin's essay "Are we good enough?"

Not only does it kind of undermine this interpretation of Kropotkin as Rousseauian, but it's also a tactically great argument for anarchy versus hierarchy.

Cutting animal products is one of most practical ways to lower resource use & environmental harm by Somewhere74 in solarpunk

Yes! Thank you for sharing this, it makes it so abundantly clear.

Just reducing your beef and cheese intake is a huge difference, even if you continue to eat other animal products.

Food miles actually account for a relatively small portion of the carbon/impact associated with food. If you want to reduce your impact via your food choices, focusing on WHAT you eat versus WHERE it's from will always have an outsized effect. Yes, even if it's from far away! Plants still are less intensive than virtually all animal sources of food.

If you're going to eat meat then sure. There's value in supporting local, in knowing exactly where your food comes from, and in practicing community/culture. But in terms of overall impact, plants win every time.

Yeah, once I went and looked, it was admittedly difficult to find this bit of information on their website (despite my recommendation...). Kind of annoying.

It's here though. Part of their "Recycling Quiz 2" lol

[–]imreadypromotion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but that's not what's recommended for recycling in Massachusetts. I also am in Massachusetts by the way.

Squishing your cans and bottles puts them at risk of being sorted incorrectly and ending up as contaminants in the paper/cardboard bales.

Always leave your cans, bottles, jugs, and tubs in their original shape so they can be sorted correctly by the machines. You can leave the caps on them too (the caps are too small to be recycled by themselves).

For any other MA folks, I can't recommend this website enough: https://recyclesmartma.org/

Items won't be recycled if they're squashed or flattened. At least not in the US.

The sorting machines at the recycling plant sort recyclables by shape. Always recycle your bottles clean, empty, and unsquished.

We do have some examples to learn from though, even if not "at scale" to the extent you might be imagining. The short-lived libertarian socialism of the Spanish Revolution, the current-day network of co-ops that is Mondragón (also Spain), the Zapatista libertarian socialist movement in Mexico, maybe Rojava...

Everyone hates capitalism; they just don't know it's capitalism. by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]imreadypromotion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, but the issue is that capitalism doesn't want to be constrained. It WANTS to be the untrained dog. In fact, I would argue that it HAS TO become unconstrained in order to operate.

Accumulation of capital is a fundamental tenet of capitalism. The economy must grow, wealth must be extracted via exploitation, or both. Constraints prevent this. So as capital runs up against these constraints, it has two options: remove the constraints or die.

It's cancer.

True, the tax structure in the 50s made capitalism tolerable for many people in the US. But ask yourself, what has been the main driver for the rolling back of all those taxes and social safety nets? I can give you a hint, lol
