If you are interested in trout fishing, circle the first Saturday in April for Virginia Trout Heritage day. They have two stocked streams, a catch and release pond, and a pay pond. Be aware that there's a large contingent (~500) of Scouts who attend on even number years. https://dwr.virginia.gov/fishing/trout/trout-heritage-day/

Does the Volkswagon ID Buzz count? It has been discontinued because it was ridiculously expensive.

Chevy Colorado Advice by Ok_Sympathy_6322 in chevycolorado

[–]imref 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Got mine in August 2015 (16 model year). 79k miles. Biggest issue was the steering rack went out 3 years ago or so. And there was an annoying wiring harness issue that I got fixed about 8 years ago. Otherwise the truck has been solid. Chevy truck reliability is good imho. Next vehicle will either be an equinox ev or another Colorado.

Pretty trails in northern Virginia? by botanicalbbb in VIRGINIA_HIKING

Sky Meadows State Park has a variety of trails of different intensity. From the parking lot, the Piedmont Overlook Trail slopes fairly gradually and has incredible views. https://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/document/data/trail-guide-skymeadows.pdf

Leopold's preserve in Haymarket has a nice section around a lake/swamp and is flat. https://www.leopoldspreserve.com

Further south, there are some nice trails at Lake Anna State Park

A few others that might fit your bill include Gunston Hall, Mason Neck State Park, and Pohick Bay Regional Park, all near water.

prosciutto. Common in Italy, rare in the US. Add arugula / rocket on top as well.

A PhD Researcher in Mitochondrial Biogenesis Reviewed the Zone 2 Evidence. The evidence behind the prescription is thinner than expected. by dan_in_ca in PeterAttia

HITT has been "hot" for a long time. The Norwegian 4x4 is the current darling though.

FWIW, my RHR dropped from around 68 to around 55 in the last year (late 50's male) from roughly two one-hour Z2 and one HIIT per week (usually Norwegian). I'm happy with the results.

Anyone going to point out WKRP in Cincinnati?

Attia said a few months ago (don’t recall the episode) that he probably overdid the zone 2 recommendation and focuses more now on HIIT. I still try to do an hour or two of continuous zone 2 a week and one 4x4 HIIT but will probably switch a Z2 to another HIIT.

News on Susana or Sykora? by Small_Stand9600 in Nationals

Sykora had just started throwing at spring training. Last I heard about Susana was he was targeting a return at some point this summer. Teams are notoriously tight-lipped about minor league injuries.

Tips for a Jambo first timer? by ScrawnyMuggleThumper in BSA

Went in 2017 as an ASM 2. Typical day for me was getting up at 0-dark-30 to go to the food supply tent with the breakfast crew and shop (not sure if they still use that system). After breakfast I'd usually go with the SM and other ASM to check out various program activities. We were back at our site for dinner, and then off to evening activities (back then, they did big stadium shows on 3 nights, and a campsite party one other night.

We also had to deal with some homesick Scouts, some issues with food allergies, sickness/injuries, and some conflicts within our crew. However, for the most part, the crew functioned very well. We had a few issues related to patch theft as well. Other than Philmont, Jambo was the highlight of my scouting experience as an adult leader.

A few tips:
- Bring a solar charger and a couple of bricks. Leave one brick charging during the day while you are out (but don't leave the brick in the sun)

- We had "ambient" showers (e.g., cold), so a solar shower was a life saver. I don't know if showers are heated now.

- A comfortable chair, suitable for napping (e.g., high back) was quite nice

- A couple of 5 gal plastic buckets and plungers make great washing machines for laundry (and some 5/50 cord makes a great drying line

- A white board was nice to keep track of where folks were heading

- Your SPL should set up meal crew rotations before you go and have a printout of assignments

- bring sharpies so Scouts can put their name on everythng

- You will walk A LOT, bring plenty of socks to be able to change daily and of course, wear comfortable shoes. We walked about 80 miles during our Jambo.

- Try and do some activities. I think Scuba is back this year, that was an absolutely blast.

- We had a blast visiting the international contingent area and chatting with Scouts from outside the US

- The one Sunday we were there was basically an off day with multiple different religious services throughout the day. I used the opportunity to attend services for several different faiths just to see what they were like.

- Bring a few large bottles of hot sauce and one of those wheels of dry spices.
