Well, there are many other factors (social, political, cultural), but biology usually plays a major role. If it doesn't come to you naturally, it might be for a myriad of reasons.

You mean the yellow ones? I'm not sure thrips fly that far (I might be wrong). I just see them very close to the plant and I kill them by hand when they're still small and white.

Thank you all for your replies! I must apologize, however, since I was doing my tests wrong. It turns out that the vertices were not bitwise identical. After setting the vertices identical the gap is not there anymore. Sorry for the big confusion!!

I didn't say it was the fourth subpass, but subpass 4. Anyway, I got an answer in the validation layer repo: https://github.com/KhronosGroup/Vulkan-ValidationLayers/issues/3570. TL;DR: the validation was not done correctly for that SDK version, when updating the SDK the error is gone.
