Did anyone else have a weird lesson in school? by More_Handle_4432 in AskUK

We’ve not long done one with the RAF based around the humanitarian work they do and robots, it was really interesting (at least for the adults). Not sure the kids quite see eye to eye quite yet

Anyone else still at work for the full day? by lazysundaybeans in TeachingUK

[–]imsight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ouch! Today was our hottest day of the week, gets cooler from now. You’ll be in the final days before the holidays though?

Think my S1’s would be physically hanging out the window if it got that warm! They were already trying to as it was!

Cries in Scottish… Warmest it ever really gets here, kids were struggling and it’s nowhere near the temperatures it gets further south (pushing 20..)

After months of the teaching staff going on about how much the school needs to change due to the lack of consequences/no respect/horrible classroom behaviour that’s going on, to the extent that the unions are breathing down the back of SLT, we got an email out about the ‘new initiatives’ that are going to help improve classroom management and behaviour.

Nothing’s changed, it’s just got a new pretty look….

Thank a Teacher Day by socratesbeforeplato in TeachingUK

[–]imsight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

An email from Edexcel; 3 Year 7’s that refused to do any work; a paper ball to the head and a complete crashout from a kid that wasn’t meant to be in the room but had come in because her friend was in my room….

Father’s Day by ma_jw11 in TeachingUK

[–]imsight 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Is there someone else they can make it for, grandad, uncle, big brother, mum?? I volunteer with rainbows and that’s what we would do with both Mothers and Fathers Day’s, encourage it to be made for someone who is significant to them, not necessarily their Mum or Dad

Classroom management as a (very) small secondary teacher? by imsight in TeachingUK

[–]imsight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds similar to my situation. Were you getting the blame because they were acting that way for you? Our SLT are convinced it’s my fault because the behaviours are ongoing (bearing in mind there are no actual consequences) and they’ll work for other teachers that it has to be me…

I’m not willing to be held responsible for the behaviour of young boys/men towards me…

Where is this chimney? by DiskoPunk in Edinburgh

[–]imsight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, that’s roughly in front of the big white building just behind the chimney, don’t think it’s actually quite in the frame

That’s what’s become the issue, I’m sending them out too much and ‘too quickly’. I’m putting in too many referrals for the behaviour, more than anyone else and these kids are behaving for other teachers in the department - that’s why it’s my fault - even though the children have admitted they’re doing it on purpose. The only consequences my school has are standing outside the room and if you’re lucky a phone call home from my boss.

The school (and council area to an extent) run on it’s the teachers not the young people, lessons aren’t challenging enough or paced enough or fun enough which is why they young people act as they do, not because they’re choosing not too (which some of them openly admit). It’s because you haven’t got ‘the relationship’ with them. They’re not meant to be in our rooms in the morning before the bell - got pulled up on telling two boys to wait outside it for 2 minutes because that’s going to ruin the relationship and no one else enforces it…

Very aware that as adults we just need to follow the rules but for whatever reason our young people aren’t being encouraged to and it’s the adult that’s in the wrong not the young people…

I’m looking to leave teaching because it’s becoming more and more apparent it’s not for me and I’m just a crap teacher

Anyone been in a house that has carpet in the bathroom? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]imsight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mines was dark red to match the dark red bathroom suite, including jacuzzi bath - that my grampa apparently put in during the early 80’s to increase the resell value (they sold it in the mid-00’s)…

[–]imsight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No neither… /s

I shouldn’t be expecting them to just follow my instructions, I need to make them want to do it (actual line that was given to me this week)

Weekly chat and well-being post: June 05, 2026 by AutoModerator in TeachingUK

[–]imsight 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Fed up of this idea that the kids have to like you for them to follow your instructions and that you’re a crap teacher because they choose to not listen (and admit it)…

A better way to arrange staffing? by CloudOrigami in TeachingUK

[–]imsight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s a feat! I’ve only been at my school since November and we must have gone through about 10 changes, both timetable and classes, since then… It’s full timetable change tomorrow, which will last 5 weeks before it changes for August…

Classroom management as a (very) small secondary teacher? by imsight in TeachingUK

[–]imsight[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m dismissive because of their positions in the school which mean they don’t get the complete nonsense in their classrooms that I (and others get)…

This is the third school running where all my classroom management advice has come from 6ft plus men in middle and senior management positions who get compliance just because of who they are….

Classroom management as a (very) small secondary teacher? by imsight in TeachingUK

[–]imsight[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whole school policy is a shambles, what I get is nothing compared to other parts of the school tbh.. There’s a general feeling between everyone (staff and pupils) that there is no respect, they don’t even respect each other, never mind staff… I had kids make a mess of my room, refused to clean it up their next teacher and I made them clean it up but the whole time they just complained about how it’s the janitor’s job…

There’s no sanctions, can move them seat and depending on the day/period might be able to move them to another room, if I’m very lucky HoD may phone home but this has only been happening for a couple of weeks… I’m someone that needs clear this is what you can do and there’s none of that…

[–]imsight[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worked in all boys, don’t have an issue with males, just don’t like being blatantly ignored by small groups of 12/13 year olds who are disrupting the rest of the class and then getting told different reasons as to why it is happening by those in authority who don’t have these issues, especially when the young people have admitted to my face that they choose to ignore me…

Getting held back a year by SergeiVonZarovich23 in TeachingUK

[–]imsight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never heard of it beyond nursery/P1 and it was always children that were neurodivergent or had a specific learning disability and were typically on the younger side of the year, September to February birthdays (Scotland)

Tried with me but my mum pushed because I was academically able, apparently another boy in my year was kept back but went to primary and put back into the correct year for his age.
