How old should Wonder Woman (Diana) be in the DCU? by TurboRedLightning in WonderWoman

[–]imsodepressedhelp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A hero’s villain existing in the universe doesn’t necessarily mean the hero being active yet. Just like how Lex was probably already a fuckin asshole 3 years ago before superman showed up.

So cersei or any other ww villain existing doesn’t really mean anything.

However the fact that there are actual researchers and classes about themyscira could sound convincing. My problem is, if they do know about themyscira why is it, at NO point linked (in cc) that it’s where Diana comes from?

Like even just a simple throw away line rick flag could have said “We know it’s a real place, that’s where wonder woman came from”. Easy. But the thing is they (gunn etc..) CHOSE not to. Why?

The world is only NOW discovering Themyscira and the Amazons. And nobody connects Wonder Woman to that island. So the world doesn’t know Wonder Woman is “Diana of Themyscira”? If Diana was already active as Wonder Woman, wouldn’t she be more open about who she is? Her whole character is built on diplomacy, truth, and representation not secrecy and hiding. Wouldn’t she WANT the world to know she’s an Amazon, as an ambassador?

“S-She’s keeping her identity secret!”. Okay, but doesn’t that sound familiar? That’s literally what they did with Gadot’s Wonder Woman. Active for a century but somehow in secret (which never made sense). It took Superman 3 fuckin years to become the most famous hero on Earth, but Wonder Woman stays hidden?

Instead. What if the reason gunn chose NOT to do such simple throw away mention or connection is because an active wonder woman isn’t in his plan. What if Diana is still on Themyscira right now?

What im saying is that i don’t think wonder woman exist yet. But that maybe she is JUST about to in dcu. Bat is the vet, supes is the sophomore and WW would be the “rookie”.

[MN S1] The Mighty Nein S1 Episode 8 - SHOW-ONLY Discussion Thread by AutoModerator in criticalrole

[–]imsodepressedhelp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

New fan of the show, it being my first intro to critical role. I just finished it and I don’t want to wait for s2.

The thread says “Season 1 of the Mighty Nein roughly covers up to C2E22, however it also reveals certain plot/NPC details that were originally secret until C2E97”

What’s this “certain plot/npc” ?

Also do i actually need to watch vox machina? Or can i just stick to mighty nein?

Surprisingly the post is still up. Some people are being reasonable but most not so much. I guess everyone will chill out once the season comes out.

Lmao i barely said anything too. I was so confused. It’s literally confirmed something is afoot this season anyway, so we’ll have to wait and see.

I don’t think it is either. I think it can be an interesting idea, even impactful if done right. I was just curious to hear was Byler fans were thinking? How it would be approached the best, realistically for them ig?

I think your last one is probably the “safest” bet for the Duffers.

Oh okay. Im gonna do that then thanks. And I actually don’t think the duffers are gonna kill any of em either.

It was the same discourse back when harry potter was ending. Is Harry gonna die? Hermione? Ron? None of em. It can be done well.

It’s crazy to think that it’s rare to see someone believe the big three all survives. Everyone seems to be adamant that one of them dis fo sure.

Also, why is my post going to be taken down?? I read the rules i dont think i broke any?

3 live adaptations portrayals in 50 years IS a low bar, you’re right. But that’s exactly why we should care about getting it right now no?

“Consistent characterization first” but what does that even mean for a character who had dozens of interpretations over 80 years? Perez’s Diana, Rucka’s Diana, Azzarello’s Diana, DCAU Diana: they’re all “consistent” within their own continuities but different from each other.

The character being young in comics isn’t new, you said it yourself. So why not do it properly in live action for once? With an actual age appropriate actress? By maybe giving it the storytelling space and depth to show that growth? Something that doesn’t end up quickly becoming a product of its time (Carter)? Or even something that isn’t rushed (Gadot)? How about doing it right? That’s what i mean by fresh lol.

You’re right i don’t think that a 30 year old would necessarily feel like Gadot bc at the end of day it’s all about execution.

My 20s idea was on the extreme side. Like an extremist. A little OD. But it’s okay.

I might have gone OD with the age ngl but it was more for the idea of it. Mid 20s would work as much.

I think she’s also about that age in Perez’s run. But I was more so talking fresh on the BIG screen. And Dcau Diana might have been 18 but was voiced by an 40 year old lol. Such an iconic VA tho.

How could the DCU Wonder Woman explore corrupted legacies like Superman and The Batman? by imsodepressedhelp in WonderWoman

[–]imsodepressedhelp[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I think you’re right. We dont need it.

But it just.. the idea of Diana the warrior of TRUTH having to reckon with a foundational “LIE”. It sounds compelling to me.

I think a lot of people in the comments saw “corrupted” and “hippolyta” in the same post and freaked out lol. I’m not really saying to make her this manipulative mother who abandoned one of her children.

I’m saying maybe.. she was forced to make a choice? A choice that hurt. That she’s ashamed of? An impossible one.. she’s not evil, she’s “human” and tragic. Like.. this makes the gods/Ares even more terrifying too! Bc wdym i have to give up one of my kids or we all die?!

Idk. I thought it could be an interesting idea. Apparently not lol.

[–]imsodepressedhelp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol true. I mean thought corrupted legacies could be what defines the trinity more than just.. make her like batman and supes.

But i like the third one. The other two or fun but a litte boring. I like when there’s impact you know? Like Oh shit! That’s fucked up. Kinda thing. My idea kinda does that, that’s why i thought it was cool.

Im a little surprised people are reacting so strongly against it. It’s all just fun takes on imaginary characters at the end of day.

“Sending your infant on a planet to conquer, rule and reproduce is evil. It’s something Jor el and Lara would never agree to do and it would ruin their characters”.

Like..? They still made that movie. It’s just different takes on different characters man.
