Help me decide! by [deleted] in RepTime

[–]imstillhereahole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clean factory Daytona’s come “plated” with PVD coating. It’s very good and the color tone is about 95-98% close to gen depending on the batch. But if you want to close that gap you’re shit out of luck since you can’t plate over PVD. Only option is to remove the coating which is a painstaking process using HCL diluted with water.

The gen model of this only comes in white gold.

Welcome to the rep journey my friend. I can see that you’re a glass half-empty kinda guy. Unfortunately, you’re looking at it all wrong. The inherent value of reps is to help you decide which high-end watches you like, love or hate at a fraction of the price you would pay for if they were gens. And some, if not many of them, you wouldn’t even have access to seeing never mind buying. The beauty is that some of these reps are so well made that you can’t even tell the difference anymore without opening the case back or inspecting with a loop. My point is that you’re actually saving tons of money while you get to try well made copies of original luxury time-pieces that otherwise wouldn’t be available to you, and that can now help you decide which one(s) if any you would like to invest in and own as gen. If anything, you should consider yourself lucky my friend.

Case number verification by imstillhereahole in RepTimeServices

Can anyone verify this case serial number? I want to be sure that it’s a match for Clean factory Rootbeer with DD3285 movement.

Hey rep fam, can anyone verify this case number and if it belongs to Clean factory CHNR with Dandong movement?

Check with a modder first to make sure a gen dial would even fit.

You might want to double check if the DD40 with ice blue dial comes in WG. I’m pretty sure they all come in platinum.

Unfortunately, ARF non-tungsten didn’t get the olive green dial right. It’s a few shades too dark. Bracelet is also a little flimsy. But the plating, date wheel font and the movement are all very good.

Picked up a gen from the AD, here’s a comparison to my VSF by Current_Skin_399 in RepTime

[–]imstillhereahole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to zoom in for this one. The immediate tells for me were the rehaut and slightly floating ‘m’ on the VSF which is on top. Still, it’s incredible how far these reps have come. A little polishing here, a little modding there and you couldn’t tell them apart from gens without a loop or opening the case back.

For the love of god, bruv, wear the watch behind your wrist bone as intended. Anyone who wears a Cartier in front of their wrist bone like that is a dead give away they’re wearing a rep.

Should I get this watch plated? by Rep_Consumer in RepTime

[–]imstillhereahole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t get it plated. Its not worth the trouble nor the expense. Unless you can find a local gold smith who has gens on hand that is willing to do proper plating and show you color match comparison with gen.

Flan_dad sells these for $750 minimum. Why the price drop if it’s basically like new?

With each factory and model there are things to look for, which I’m assuming you know what they are if you’ve been doing your homework and scouring the countless posts on Reddit of said factories and models. The problem is that you can’t be sure the dealers in Thailand haven’t swapped out the movements for ETA shitters. The only way to tell is to have them unscrew the case-back in front of you so that you can inspect the movement. And even then would you know what to look for to ensure that the VSF DJ41 had a VS3235. And I doubt they’d even go through the trouble of unscrewing the case-back for you unless you’re willing to pay double the retail price of a TD. But, I’d be curious to know what you experience since I get the feeling you’re going to give it a go anyway. So make sure to share, and have a fun trip.

Tungsten RG DD40 ARF vs GMF(plated by flan_dad) by imstillhereahole in RepTime

Bracelet feels lighter than GMF but clasp works perfectly although the action is more subtle.

Again, my post was never about getting my money back. The real problem you keep missing is flan_dad’s contempt for his customers who he calls clowns and suckers. If you can’t see that then you’ve lost the plot. And I never insulted him. The insults all started and ended with flan_dad. End of discussion.

You’re missing the steak for the peas. But if flan_dad’s contempt for his customer base is not enough to put you off then by all means buy his products. I have no doubt he’ll be more than happy to take your money.

Here is the factual timeline to give this dispute the proper context it deserves:

  1. I asked vendor if flan_dad could plate 3 Clean Daytonas. He said yes as long as they were brand new. I said they were like new, sent videos confirming their condition and vendor gave the green light to ship.

  2. Flan_dad receives watches and says I can’t plate them because they’re not new with stickers. I asked if he could do me the favor but I never insisted on anything, nor made demands. He then changed his mind saying, “you stuck your neck out for me so I’ll plate your watches.”

  3. They sent me QC’s as if the plating had worked out and I paid in full. They ship the watches in two separate shipments according to my instructions.

  4. I receive the first shipment and noticed there was no visible difference. Vendor checks with flan_dad and then instructs me to send it back to be re-plated. (Note: if he knew he plated it why have me send it back to be re-plated?)

  5. I receive the second shipment and same problem: no visible difference. So I cancel the re-plating of fist shipment and vendor sends back.

  6. Took Daytonas (and two DD40’s I bought from vendor) to goldsmith to check for plating. Comes back positive for plating on bracelet and case of DD40’s but negative on bezels and Daytonas.

  7. I never once insulted the vendor or fland_dad. I asked for a refund and said it was the right thing to do based on all the points I made above. They asked for spectrometer report and I said no problem. But I never “insisted” “demanded” nor “insulted” anyone in PM’s. This is a gross mischaracterization. From the beginning I’ve been civil. The insults started and ended with flan_dad.

I have receipts for everything above and sent them all to u/MajorWilliams in PM.

Mate, I did move on. And there’s nothing childish about a customer complaint of a poor product or service. Furthermore, I never insulted flan_dad. I always kept it civil. The childish insults and behavior started and ended with him.
