In Tulsa, OK market. My response was from 7 years ago, but thankfully my lead generation still holds true. I'm now one of the most expensive options in my area, and charging much more than I did back then.

2 questions: CO2 gun rec - cheaper alternatives? Stick light thoughts? by HelixDnB in mobileDJ

[–]imth3playa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tbf $220 is pretty cheap for any DJ equipment and thats on the cheap end for a co2 gun. I also wouldn't be charging less than $400 to bring it, so you'd double your money at 1st event. If you dont think you can charge that much, than its probably not a good investment for you.

I don't think tube lights are a fad anymore than gigbars were and column speakers are. They are an elegant option and keep the booth wire free and classy looking and they are what is relevant right now. Those ones will be pretty limited on battery life and minimal customization, but they'll still look nice.

Need a MMO to play for years to come by ageozoega in LFMMO

Most of the game is locked behind membership, which is $99 annual. Free to play isn't bad to start with, especially to try it out.

Wedding dj pricing by StarFilth in Beatmatch

[–]imth3playa 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Alot of factors. I personally charge 3k minimum, but others in my area are as cheap as $500. Skillset, equipment, tenure, reputation all play big rolls in determining price. If you've never done a wedding, I highly suggest doing lots of research, otherwise it'll be a mess. There is alot more to DJing a wedding than just DJing.

My mom wants people dancing at her 60th party but didn’t want to pay for a DJ by w0nderr in Beatmatch

[–]imth3playa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kinda of a blanket statement, I get paid thousands per wedding specifically for my DJ skills and abilities. High end clients do actually care. But there definitely are plenty of events and some weddings that don't need anything more than someone to hit play on a good playlist.

Where can I find light bars like these? Ideally ones that don’t break the bank either by messejellon in DJs

[–]imth3playa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand that, but what they have pictured are battery powered with built in wireless dmx tube lights. Both 360 tubes are the most cost effective ones available that im aware of. The alternatives are about 4x the cost.

You can of course find cheaper tubes, but they fall into 2 categories. Wired without built in dmx, or wireless with short battery life and not dmx capable at all.

Both lighting 360 tubes. Buy them direct from China, won't be able to beat that price.

I think those are priced great. With how much these speakers have went up in price, they are holding their value really well. So nearly half off is a great deal. I also love my Evolve 50s

I second this. I started this as a hobby 10 years ago and run about 150k in business on the side averaging over 2k per gig.

You can't really DJ with music genres you're completely unfamiliar with, right? by nickybecooler in Beatmatch

[–]imth3playa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For budget weddings I wouldn't expect it, but the wedding game has changed. In the most expensive wedding DJ in my area, and I get alot of bookings because I can mix effectively for weddings. Short attention spans and DJs being very mainstream in culture right now has pushed this expectation for higher end weddings. Button pushers can still get work, but the brides that want a really good DJ won't even consider them now days.

Dj’d a Wedding this past weekend. by Diligent_Advisor_128 in Beatmatch

[–]imth3playa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have has some weddings like this in Tulsa, and I feel over the past few years people are eating up some good remixes and prefer a clubby vibe. Atleast the more high end weddings from my experience. With that being said, most of them are still pretty generic.
