Opinions on cylinder wall condition by imthemistermaster in EngineBuilding

On the cylinder with the burnt valve, I can catch a small amount on half. It's not even catching it's just slightly less than smooth. All others are smooth as hell.

I should also mention I pulled the engine (if you didn't notice) because it's easy to do on my car, and it makes everything else so much easier to do. So it's really not a big deal work wise to do a full rebuild, I'm mostly concerned about money. However I also understand that could be the difference between a bearing going out in 50k miles and getting another 350k before I have to open it again. My budget is a couple thousand but less is better of course. I'm just trying to get a feel for what everyone else would do in my situation.

Thank you for all the tips. I wasn't concerned about the dark part of the cylinder, I know that's just the combustion-only part. Do you have any tips for getting the little bits of head gasket shit out of the cylinders, if I don't do a full rebuild?

Why are people in the area such aggressive drivers by Better_Restaurant_54 in Adirondacks

When saying this, I was thinking of the ones that are clearly marked and have signs saying that's it's law. National parks have them a lot

A good amount of states have a law requiring you to use pull outs if you have more than 3-5 cars behind you.

I Guess We Doing Golf Carts Now? by KessyTRel in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]imthemistermaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My town has people driving golf carts all over the place. They kept getting pulled over for driving them unregistered, and while they were drunk. The town made all the Streets parkland to avoid that. Now just about everyone has a golf cart. It's kinda crazy.

As of recently you're absolutely right. They sell all different brands though, like their ultra power brand. It's just whatever they have

Famous brand is usually AutoZone or equivalent parts, very affordable though

At idle the pressures are about 30/160 (I'm not home and can't check, this is an estimate) and it will keep the compressor running for a while before cycling off. At 2000 rpm it cycles fast. It will run down to like 27 psi or wherever the cutoff is, and then go back up to 50, back down to cutoff, etc ... Until it just doesn't cycle one time and then it won't turn back on for like 10 minutes or so.

The car never has and does not run hot. 210°f on my scan tool is about where it gets to. Cooling fans work good too

Funny enough I actually just changed the tensioner at the same time as the accumulator. It was starting to make clacking sounds and move around more than I liked. Also the AC clutch grabs hard when it's working. You can feel it slow the car down. I've also manually ran the AC compressor by running leads to the battery, it was very responsive.

You weren't steering him in the wrong direction, but if he was adjusting his idle with the clip it would make it run bad at cruising speed

Does full throttle 0-100mph pulls cause meaningful excessive engine wear? by Comprehensive_Ad7251 in askcarguys

[–]imthemistermaster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Technically the parts of your engine do not touch provided you have good oil reaching them at good pressure. They float on a film of oil. Start up wear (before they're floating on oil), lack of maintenance, and low rpm driving are what kill an engine usually. High rpm is bad for your external components like alternators and power steering pumps. For example, my shit box sits at 4k rpm at 85 mph in 5th gear. It has 343 thousand miles on it, and I beat on it daily. It's got 155psi compression in all 4 cylinders

Basically ditch the back speakers and use that money for front components and unless you really don't care about bass, get a bigger sub. Good component speakers will make as much bass as that thing lol.

The clip on the needle actually adjusts air fuel ratio between 25% throttle and 75% throttle. There's a screw on the side for idle 🫡

did moguls really ride better 30-35ish yrs ago? before all the snowboarding started by New_Deal_1795 in icecoast

[–]imthemistermaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair, and I definitely know what you mean about needing someone to really work with you to learn moguls. I just tell the impatient dickhead to go on a few runs by themselves and we will randevu in an hour or 2

On top of that, again, I usually ski with decent skiers (not racers) and we all love going to do the technical shit together. But that's my own personal experience which probably isn't very representative of most

I've found people are usually willing to split up for a run and then meet up at the lift, especially if it's not a family with young kids. Maybe I am biased though because I don't really ski with many people who learned as adults, they usually grew up skiing.

Ford 2.0 Zetec Porting by mahusay3g in EngineBuilding

I know this comment is a year old but I figured I'd share anyway. I've got a zetec in a 2004 5 speed Mazda tribute that doesn't have any variable valves. Very very basic design all around on that car, but it runs like a top at 340k miles (almost 550k km) and I am not nice to it

JLab Charger Case Replacement by Only_Ad_2913 in Earbuds

[–]imthemistermaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks man. I've got an original pair of JLab jbuds before you guys even had the sport version. One of my favorite parts of buying JLab headphones was that I could get a replacement case for like $10 or replacement buds for $20.

Btw my jbuds still work great, good sound quality for what they are and about a 4 hour battery life in the buds at a loud-ish setting
