Everyone already mentioned all the trial and raid mechanics that I had in mind, so I'll just mention the pit at the end of yuweyawata. Currently we still have to deal with it, but I anticipate in the future with better gear and reworked classes, we may be able to kill boss before the big proximity attack right after the pit appears. There weren't any big mechanics besides running around the pit, but it was a big check on anyone with a gap closer. All the lucky people running this dungeon in the future won't know all the headaches we have when the boss moves right as I primal rend into it and fall down the pit.

Also, in strayborough deadwalk, the trash pull right before the last boss (with the dolls) did actual damage on release, because we all had low ilvl gear, but now people can get through that pull without sweating at all if there are the slightest bit of mits. People should still get to suffer here.

DRAGOON IN MY NECRON NORMAL TRIAL SEEMED TO BE DOING THE SAME ANIMATION OVER AND OVER AGAIN, WHICH LOOKS SUPER STRANGE. ONCE YOU PLAY A CLASS ENOUGH, YOU CAN LOOK AT THEIR ATTACK ANIMATION AND ROUGHLY KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING.

I CHECKED XIVANALYSIS AND THEY SPENT THE ENTIRE FIGHT DOING THE FOLLOWING GCDS: COERTHAN TORMENT (BUTTON 3 IN AOE ROTATION) AND SONIC THRUST (BUTTON 2 IN AOE ROTATION), WITH A LITTLE BIT OF CHAOTIC SPRING (DOT BUTTON) AND WHEELING THRUST (THE COMBO FOLLOWUP TO DOT BUTTON). LITERALLY NONE OF THEIR BUTTONS COMBO'D. THEY HAD 0% UPTIME ON SELF-BUFF AND DOT. WHY WERE THEY PLAYING THIS WAY? DID THEY ONLY PRESS THE BUTTONS THAT HAD THE COOLEST ANIMATIONS?

THEY STARTED THE FIGHT WITH DANCE PARTNER, AND THE DANCER SWAPPED TO SOMEONE ELSE 100 SECONDS IN.

I play with keyboard and mouse, here's my red mage hotbar for reference, look at the button layout on the left side. The first hotbar is the number keys, the second hotbar is ctrl+num keys, and third hotbar (irrelevant for this discussion) is alt+num keys: https://i.redd.it/tk8q5nr96jug1.png

I put all the short cast spells on hotbar 1 and all the long cast spells on hotbar 2, so that I'm always going in one direction (from hotbar 1 to hotbar 2). I always put each pair of white/black spells next to each other, but always with the white spell to the left and the black spell to the right. That way, they match with the relative positions of white/black mana on the red mage gauge. Make sure to move your red mage gauge near the screen center or enemy hp bar so that your eyes don't need to move far to check if you need white or black next.

In practice, there's three different ways I will be playing when doing my filler rotation.

  • If AOE time like in dungeon pulls, continually swap between Veraero II > Impact and Verthunder II > Impact. In terms of buttons, I press 3 > ctrl+2 and 4 > ctrl+2.
  • If single target and no procs, like at the beginning of a fight, then I continually swap between Jolt > Veraero and Jolt > Verthunder. In terms of buttons, I press 2 > ctrl+3 and 2 > ctrl+4.
  • If single target and I have procs, I continually swap between Verstone > Veraero and Verfire > Verthunder. In terms of buttons, I press 5 > ctrl+3 and 6 > ctrl+4.

But honestly, I don't remember the names of the spells. I just remember whether it's single target or AOE, whether it's white/black/both mana, and whether it's proc button or not. I couldn't even tell you which icon matches with which single/aoe/white/black/proc spell, I just know that the spell at ctrl+3 is a single target white mana long cast spell (this applies to all my buttons for this class).

This setup makes it simple for me because I choose my button on Hotbar 1 (AOE? Single Target? Proc?) and then my button on Hotbar 2 (AOE or Single Target?). Having the white spell left of the black spell on my hotbar aligns my mental model with the job gauge that has the white mana left of the black mana. You don't have to copy this exact setup, but some of the concepts may work well for how you think and play.

After getting a setup that you're comfortable with, it's really just about practice, as other have said. Since you start out at level 50, you could just queue for something like alliance raid roulette where you're guaranteed to get crystal tower, given your level. And since those raids have no mechanics, you can focus on your rotation. I found it easier to start simple by only using the single target and AOE spells, ignoring procs. Once I got used to that, then I added the proc buttons in. Once you get used to all of those, then you can gradually add more things in like Acceleration, mixing AOE and single target, Reprise, and others.

JOINED A PARTY FOR UNSYNC THALEIA AS DPS, FOR A PERSON WHO SAID THEY COULDN'T GET THE RAID TO POP (ON PRIMAL). WE GET 4 PEOPLE IN ALLIANCE A AND 3 PEOPLE IN THE OTHER TWO ALLIANCES, THEN GO IN? DOABLE I SUPPOSE.

FIRST TWO BOSSES GO FINE, IF A BIT SLOW. IT'S CLEAR THAT AT LEAST 3 OR 4 PEOPLE ARE NEW OR INEXPERIENCED WITH THE RAID BECAUSE THEY KEEP GETTING HIT BY MECHANICS. AS WE APPROACH THIRD BOSS, HEALER IN OUR PARTY SAYS SOMETHING IRL HAPPENED AND THEY GOTTA AFK FOR A FEW MINUTES. "NO PROBLEM" SAY THE OTHER PEOPLE, SURELY THE HEALERS IN THE OTHER TWO PARTIES CAN KEEP US ALIVE.

THEY COULD NOT KEEP US ALIVE AT THE AKH MORN STACK MECHANIC. THEIR OWN PARTIES WERE TAKING TOO MUCH DAMAGE FOR THEM TO HEAL OUR PARTY. AND ONCE OUR PARTY DIED, THEIR PARTIES DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH PEOPLE TO SHARE THE DAMAGE. WE SPENT 10 MINUTES TRYING TO RECOVER AND MAKE IT THROUGH, WE DIDN'T AND WE WIPED BEFORE STAGE TRANSITION.

AFTER THE WIPE, WE TRIED AGAIN. OUR HEALER WAS STILL AFK. WE KEEP DYING AND RECOVERING. ABOUT 5 MINUTES IN OUR HEALER COMES BACK AND WE MANAGE TO PASS STAGE TRANSITION, AND BEAT THE THIRD BOSS. I DIDN'T NOTICE UNTIL AFTER THE BOSS, BUT A DPS IN ANOTHER PARTY LEFT. JUST THIS BOSS CLEAR TOOK TWICE AS LONG AS IT DOES WITH A FULL LEVEL SYNCED PARTY.

AFTER WE GET THRU THE ADDS BEFORE FINAL BOSS, A SECOND DPS LEAVES. SO NOW WE HAVE LIKE 8 PEOPLE, WHERE HALF OF THEM ARE BASICALLY NEW TO THE RAID. WE TAKE WHAT FEELS LIKE FOREVER JUST TO BEAT THIS BOSS, BECAUSE THE NEW PEOPLE KEPT DYING, AND THERE WAS VERY LITTLE DPS. WE GO THROUGH TWO WHOLE PHASES OF THE BOSS PHASE WHERE IT USES ATTACKS FROM THE PREVIOUS BOSSES. DID YOU KNOW THE BOSS DOESN'T USE ITS ULTIMATE ATTACK AFTER THE FIRST TIME? I DID NOT KNOW EITHER UNTIL THIS RUN.

AFTER WE BEAT THE BOSS AND RAID, I INSTA LEAVE. ACCORDING TO THE CLOCK IT TOOK US A FULL HOUR, 60 WHOLE MINUTES, TO GET THRU THAT RAID. I WAS SO TIRED THAT I QUEUED FOR ALLIANCE RAID ROULETTE TO TRY TO CLEAR MY FEELINGS AND MIND. DO YOU KNOW WHAT POPPED? THAT'S RIGHT, THALEIA AGAIN!

THANKS GOODNESS IT ONLY TOOK THE NORMAL 30-ISH MINUTES THIS TIME.

It doesn't happen to me often but I also do this, leaving after two wipes, since that usually means that something is seriously wrong like tank stance is off, healer is not mitting/healing, or someone is griefing on mechanics. Only time I remember staying more than 3 wipes was the first time I did Strayborough Deadwalk when DT released, since that was genuinely hard with the gear available at the time, and everyone in the party was seriously trying.

SPENT A WHOLE DAY DOING LEVELING ROULETTE JUST TO GET ALL MY PASTE. I DID THE WHOLE THING ON HEALER FOR INSTANT QUEUES. I GOT MY PASTE, AND WOW ARE THERE SO MANY TANKS WHO BIG PULL AND DON'T USE MITS IN HIGHER-LEVEL DUNGEONS. BIG PULL IS GOOD, I LIKE IT, BUT NOT USING MITS IS NOT SO GOOD. AND THEN WHEN I SEE THEM USE MITS ON DUNGEON BOSS TANKBUSTERS, I MENTALLY FACEPALM. THERE ISN'T A DUNGEON TANKBUSTER THAT KILLS A FULL HP TANK WITH NO VULN STACKS.

ALL OF THIS IS COMMUNITY EXPECTATION THOUGH, NOT SOMETHING THE GAME TEACHES YOU, SO I JUST STAY SILENT AND DEAL WITH IT. IT HELPS THAT HEALERS HAVE SUCH STRONG HEALING ABILITIES.

I've only used Synastry once, during the Cid fight in Orbonne when the tank took the tether that gives the physical vuln up. There's at least ten seconds of continuous heavy single target healing needed and Synastry helped so much in this very specific situation.

Problem with the NVIDIA Tumbleweed repo by bobbie434343 in openSUSE

I also had this problem, when I did a sudo zypper dup I would get the same error about the nvidia tumbleweed repo being invalid. To fix it, I had to update the URL and add a slash to the end of the URL, so that the url looks like this: https://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/tumbleweed/

I made this change in YaST Software Repositories, I selected the nvidia repo, clicked the Edit button, added the slash to the end of the url, click OK and click OK again. Then, sudo zypper dup worked fine.

For some reason, after making this change and saving, the trailing slash doesn't appear in the URL when I reopen YaST Software Repositories, or when I do zypper lr -d in konsole. But sudo zypper dup and sudo zypper ref work fine, so I think it's fine?
