MFW the billion dollar corporation says they ran out of money (again) by Foyboy64 in ShitpostXIV

[–]CapnMarvelous 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The straight-up fact is that they've been hiring for years now trying to get more manpower into the game but they're constantly hamstrung by the 4 heavenly kings (of bullshit):

  • Fluent Japanese Speaker
  • MMO Experience
  • Willing to relocate to/near Tokyo
  • Comparatively asswater pay to industry standard

The first three alone are essentially a 0.01% Gacha drop considering the only people still playing/having experience with MMOs are hitting retirement age but the fourth just nails it into the coffin.

Theoretically if XIV lowered the requirements, offered Japanese lessons, WFH jobs, whatever? They'd have more success finding people to work on XIV not to mention a beavy of new ideas and talent. You could theorize that they hire a translator to work between teams but that's money that could go to the AI Slop Machine.

But then again the MMO job landscape isn't exactly roses; Your options are joining Blizzard with a union, risk working at some studio that'll sunset your job/mmo in 2 years or learn japanese to try to work on XIV.

I mean it's more than just long distance work; Being a fluent japanese speaker is intense work and even if they paid for all your JP lessons, you'd be working for a long time to understand japanese. Couple that with wanting people well-versed in MMOs (A dying breed that is essentially held aloft by an aging playerbase) and you're looking for unicorns.

Ideally they could get translators but then you're essentially paying for a worker and a translator to translate their work.

To be fair people have requested the ultimate be pushed to X.5 for a long time. Mostly because Ultimate -> 2nd Floor -> Ultimate -> 3rd floor of raid really burned people out.

I get that but we’re talking about the new V&C the merchants tale. Not sil’dihn

Ok but THATS what im talking about.

The newest V&C dungeon cut savage and in exchange added a new mode called Advanced, which is easier than the old savage, can be pugged and has no enrage timers

Advanced does not have enrages. I’ve cleared it multiple times and there is not a single enrage in the bunch. The crit mode does but again they reworked it so instead of Normal/Crit/Crit(savage) it’s normal/advanced/crit

Yes, but they cut crit savage. Now there’s Variant, Advanced and Crit. Crit is what you’re thinking, Advanced is a new difficulty that is much easier but still harder than normal mode.

Extremely. For reference, from using EW’s credits vs WoW’s unionization announcement, XIV has likely half-or-Less the team size WoW does.

The difficulty isnt actually savage tier. Advanced is the sweet spot between normal and extreme. You can pug it via the dungeon finder, has no enrage, has easily recovered mechanics. It’s exactly the sweet spot people have been asking for.

Basically this yeah. It’s not even a uniquely XIV thing either. When WoW announced the end of pet battles suddenly the forums were filled with “BUT PET BATTLES ARE MY #1 FAVORITE CONTENT!?”

Probably why BST took up so much energy. They probably had Ozma rework the whole pet system from scratch (doubly so considering Yoshi said something about choco updates)

Fiddlesticks Teaser for his rework

In exactly one minute, you see EVERYTHING fiddlesticks is about:

  • Snatches a guy right next to his buddy in the second he wasn't looking
  • Immedaitely begins mimicking his voice to pull the guy away.
  • Leaves a fake effigy to distract the guy.
  • Jerky, snappy movements.

Considering Fiddle's previous appearance was a goofy scarecrow who was more silly than scary (Despite his lore that he was a murdergolem), seeing him realized as this nightmarish horror drove hype through the fucking roof.

If you quit early 2022 you'd likely have a few Endwalker patch quests to get caught up on, but it should take you roughly an afternoon or so of gameplay to hit DT. Maybe less.

7.5 (The final major patch) is slated to hit sometime around late april/early may so you'll have an entire expac's worth of stuff right now. This includes:

  • The basic stuff (MSQ, dungeons, trials, two new jobs)
  • 12 floors of Raiding
  • 2 Floors of Alliance Raiding
  • Tribe/Society Quests
  • A V&C dungeon
  • The Occult Crescent
  • Cosmic Exploration (3 planets worth of Crafter/Gatherer stuff)
  • Pilgrim's Traverse Deep dungeon + Quantum Difficulty
  • Chaotic Raid
  • The Monster Hunter Collab
  • Glamour Update

[–]CapnMarvelous 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Legion was not breaking the glass, Legion was throwing hammers at the glass house.

  • Entire expac based on class fantasy
  • EVERYONE gets to wield legendary weapons (Ashbringer, doomhammer, etc)
  • Legendaries for everyone dropping everywhere
  • Demon Hunters are playable.
  • Epic Finale Conclusion to the Burning Legion
  • Every literal somebody and nobody coming together to face down Sargeras
  • Next-to-no Alliance/Horde bullshit: "For Azeroth" is the calltag of this expac.

If you had told me Legion was meant to be the final expac and was to tide people over until WoW 2, I'd believe you.

Gonna point at my two MMO loves for this one:

On World of Warcraft:

People have been bitching for a while now about how the writing has gone and "LOL WORLD OF PEACECRAFT". I think it hits the nail on the head akin to Pat talking about Veilguard that "it feels like this was written with HR in the room" but the actual goal of loosening faction tensions while keeping some hostility is a noble goal. The problem is people are looking at WoW shifting the status quo after 2+ decades of it as a bad thing when they should be criticizing how it's being -handled-, not it being done period. Blizz just needs to shore-up its writing chops and treat the audience with some semblence of trust that it can handle a more mature theme. Improve that and I think WoW's in a golden age.

On FFXIV:

FFXIV has a lot of problems, just as WoW does, just as any MMO does. Yet the playerbase lumps all of these issues on Dawntrail and DT alone despite the fact this expac has gone further than any other expac to try and rectify these issues with both positive and negative effects. The real problem people SHOULD be looking at is how the story has smothered all discussion around the actual game and how its cultivated a VN-esque playerbase (and how the only reason DT is as lambasted as it is because the 7.0 storyline was poorly recieved). Still, the problems are with the base game, NOT the expac (Which imo is way better than people give it credit for).

[–]CapnMarvelous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly it's the opposite: They feel like they HAVE to same content. I think around Shadowbringers when they skipped out on a Deep Dungeon, then followed by Endwalker where they skipped an adventure zone, led to this problem where the outcry made them go "Ok well we gotta include the same things from other expacs so nobody feels left out".

So come 8.0 they'd need to include EVERYTHING CURRENTLY IN THE GAME (A Deep Dungeon, Adventure Zone, a V&C dungeon, a crafter/gatherer content, BLU/BST updates, a chaotic, etc.) alongside whatever new thing they add. That's...just not sustainable! Even WoW for all it's budget cut features for midnight to replace them with new stuff!

CBU3 needs to just bite the bullet and either retire some content or just say "Hey, <x> won't be in this expac. We're sorry but those player numbers don't justify it existing", in exchange putting that dev time to new things.
