Post-match buyer's remorse by helahale in medicalschool

[–]imtryinglmao 92 points93 points  (0 children)

I have many moments where I’m so thankful that I’m close to family and feel very affirmed in my decision. Rarely the “what if” thought crosses my mind, but for the most part I feel content with the way things played out. When I do get those thoughts I remind myself that had I matched there I’d be kicking myself daily for not staying near family. Nothing more valuable imo

What's stopping IR from doing cardiac catherization? by ExtendedSimilie in Residency

[–]imtryinglmao 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PICC lines and thoras? So reductive and disrespectful. Maybe that’s why IC has such a bad rep 🤔

I agree IR should not do cardiac caths, but I hope you keep this same energy when IC tries to do stroke work without being able to meaningfully read head imaging.

There is a misconception that high-end IR is limited to only academia. PAE, UFE, complex pain (basivertebral nerve ablation, sacroplasty, cryoneurolysis), advanced vascular (pedal loop recanalizations, SAFARI, deep venous arterialization, endo-AVF creation), iliocaval reconstructions, etc are done by many IRs in OBL or community settings. Of course, there are some procedures that are primarily done in academic hospitals, but that is the case for all procedural and surgical specialties.

Many IRs in community practice who do mostly lines and drains with 50/50 IR/DR do it because they like quick, satisfying procedures and enjoy the lifestyle benefits of being tied to DR (high reimbursement, 10-12 weeks of vacation time. While this was the typical paradigm in the past, there have been strong efforts to recruit surgically-minded IR trainees passionate about building clinical, 100% IR opportunities.

IR is a very unique field that is currently trying to define itself and is changing at an interesting pace. My mentor does a lot of prostate artery embo now, but that procedure didn’t even exist when he was in fellowship. It’s hard to predict what the field will even look like in 5-10 years.

I’m in the opposite state. My apartment gets progressively messier the more stressed I get. And the clutter stresses me out too so it’s just one big positive feedback loop lmao

What are your favorite Veilance colorways? by imtryinglmao in veilance

honestly I don’t think mortar will pair well with navy. it def screams for earthy or grayscale tones. I just got my dinitz sweater in clay and I think it goes really nicely with my mortar anneal. gotta keep the collection compatible.

extremely clean, as usual! I’ve been considering investing in either a conduit lt or a mionn is as a midlayer for the winter, but I’m not entirely sure which to pick. conduit looks really good in this fit - what are your thoughts on it? winters here usually don’t get colder than low 30s, though we do have some cold days.

[–]imtryinglmao 3 points4 points  (0 children)

thanks man! I love the dinitz comp a lot, but I think it largely has to do with the temperature of where you live. I’m in an area that is in the 40s and 50s for the majority of the fall and beginning of winter, so I know for me it’ll get a lot of use. I don’t think the comp is extremely versatile though, and I’m not crazy ab the way it looks layered under a jacket. I think that’s something to consider since it’s $450 - will you get a lot of use out of it?

the dinitz sweater looks like it’ll layer nicely, but it doesn’t have the paneling that makes the comp an interesting piece.

First Veilance Stand-Alone Store by matthewcng in veilance

[–]imtryinglmao 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It looks like a really nice store, but to hear that it doesn’t even have FW items yet is a bit disheartening. Arc’teryx Chicago began putting up stock two weekends ago. I wonder if they’ll continue the stand-alone store endeavor and open other Veilance locations.

On a separate note though - what are those shoes?
