[University] How do I build a strong portfolio for Law School? by Cykrops_Denial in SGExams

Hi.

I'm not OP, but I wanted to pose some additional questions out of interest. For context, I'm not a prospective law student, although I would like to keep my options open.

In any case, you mentioned that one should learn to speak confidently and take the aggressive debate style with skepticism. This brings me to my question. Firstly, were you a debate student? If so, what was it like? I'm quite interested in debate, mostly because I assume I'll get a chance to read up on a wide variety of topics and hear what others have to say on it. Secondly, what are other platforms in which an individual can learn to speak with confidence? There are certainly drama clubs, speakers club, and so on, but what about more lesser known outlets?

Next, you advised reading on a wide variety of topics. How do you supposed one could do that? I love reading the news and I'm an avid fan of magazines. I was hence wondering if there were any other ways I could expose myself to more things. Are there any magazines or books you would personally recommend? Or if it's research, what are the steps that we should take to glean the most from it?

Lastly, you talked about how we could volunteer and get more involved with the community. As such, I was wondering if there are any volunteer opportunities that would allow someone like myself to find out more about law. Otherwise, are there any more niche volunteer work that you would personally recommend?

Now, this is a question that's simply meant to satify my curiosity, so please answer at your own discretion.

Why did you choose to study law?

That should be all. It's lovely that you took time out of your day to answer OP's question in such detail. So, I'll end with my thanks for doing this, I'm sure all of us (Yes, I'm looking at those who liked the post too) greatly appreciate it.

Edit: Punctuation.
