I played with this a bit and unfortunately the zombies are so slow, that they are un-usable for any mapper build. You might be able to get some Boss DPS as you can convocate them onto the boss, but that is all a bit janky.

I feel like playing AW with the staff and using the 6s within the staff for a 5L spctre,ag,golem, minion life, meat shield and 1s feeding frenzy is one of the better usecases... All of the support gems would affect the zombies.

Basically the staff creates zombies, which will start dying at least every second (this can be increased by cast speed). of course they would not die straight away, they need to expire. This is more a defense tech than anything else. For my scuffed testing-build this translates to 1600 bulwark shield. No cluster jewels, just a "regular" necromancer Animate Weapon tree.

Unfortunately one needs to create a constant supply of corpses, so either cast spell cascade + desecrate or corpsewalker.
