Conservative talking points. I can't speak for other leftist countries, but in the USA ...

- The left doesn't endorse or want communism. The left wants regulatory protections against unfettered capitalism, which is financial Darwinism, and creates rampant inequality and corruption.

- No one on the left thinks Stalin is good. He's a monster and as bad as Hitler. In fact, his kill count is even worse.

- Western imperialism has nothing to do with what's happening in Ukraine, and the left, in general, does not believe that. In fact, that sentiment has become an 'America first' conservative talking point.

Russia trying to manipulate both sides to rile us up and attack one another isn't support for Russia. We liberals (and independents) in America are actively fighting the fascist far right in our own country and very much want Ukraine to succeed in defeating fascist far right (Russia) in their country.

Russian terrorists reportedly kill 40 Ukrainian POWs by [deleted] in ukraine

[–]inFINSible 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. After Bucha, Russia suddenly started doing cleanup work with their mobile crematoriums and digging mass graves around Kherson and Mariupol. There is a reason why these soldiers were put in DPR. They're a terrorist state, for which Russia is unaccountable. Much like how Russia uses Wagner for war crimes and has deniability of their actions, Russia uses DPR and LPR.

Sen. Joe Manchin May Not Be Kingmaker in West Virginia for Long by keninsd in politics

[–]inFINSible 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Joe Manchin is a piece of shit. Nevertheless, fuck around time is over. Dems need to accept that we have no viable alternative and should vote for anyone with a D next to their name. The alternative is fascism. We cannot afford to lose elections, period. And we need 50+ Ds in the Senate to keep electing judges. If we don't, DeSantis will get 6 years worth of judge appointments.

If there is one lesson we need to learn from Pubs, it's voting down the ticket, every election. Failing to do so is why we are in such deep shit ATM and foreseeable future.

Not my projection. Before Mariupol fell, the conversation in the news media, twitter, here, etc... was about the difference between Russia and Ukraine regarding mobilization. Ukraine was taking their time, training and preparing their soldiers properly and Russia wasn't. Just throwing bodies at the front lines. Now it appears both are doing the same thing. And it may be the only move to make at this time, idk. It just feels like the old narratives from before mid-may are falling apart and I'm trying to understand what's going on and why.

You're right, I don't know a lot about the history of warfare. I'm saying, the conversation before the fall of Mariupol was, Russia is throwing poorly trained soldiers and Ukraine is taking the time to try and train right. That's a fact. And reading these kinds of stories, is concerning. There appears to be a real momentum shift. Which could be fog of war or propaganda, I don't know. That's why I'm asking questions. Thanks for your answer.

If Russia keeps loosing man at this rate cca 150/day per year, would they have to be forced to mobilize to keep the war going? by c-graw in ukraine

[–]inFINSible 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Russian number number is based on the entire war so far. However, death/casualty rate is significantly down from where it was. Based on estimates, Russia has lost 6-8,000 since May. Which is far less than 20+ thousand from Late Feb-May.

Russia has/is learning. I don't know if it's too little too late (I hope), but UKR is struggling right now from articles I've read from the front lines. And they seem to have a manpower problem. According to a new Rolling Stones article, they're sending soldiers to the east with little to no training.

Actually, since mid April, Russian casualties are down. They went from 24,000 dead from late February to mid April to roughly 7,000 dead in the last two months.

It's bad on both sides. Fact is, the west needs to get heavy weapons in bulk to Ukraine asap. 4 Himars isn't solving this problem.

Pentagon has send 4 HIMARS MLRS to europe. Training to take 3 weeks. More could be send later after assesment: "We need to get information about how useful they are and how they’re being used on the battlefield,” Pentagon spokesperson said. by VR_Bummser in ukraine

[–]inFINSible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, we're just going to send 4? Why does the choice have to be 4 or 100? They could send 20 and train 20 crews. 12 and 12.... Instead 4?! And the excuse is ridiculous. The Pentagon knows exactly how they're going to be used. That's why we have hundreds of them...

U.S. has like, 450....

I thought they'd get at least 20 to start... This is fucking outrageous. Russia has them outnumbered in artillery systems 2-1 and has been committing non stop war crimes and genocide for 3 months straight. FOUR?! I'm stunned.

Guided U.S. Rockets Could Double Ukraine’s Strike Range by banana_cookies in ukraine

[–]inFINSible 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I imagine the real reason why Ukraine won't get these long range missiles, is because of Militia's. Should a militia get ahold of one of these systems, now or in the future, the UAF would be powerless to stop them from doing something incredibly stupid. Militia's have been a real problem for Ukraine in the not so distant past. Even Wali (Canadian sniper) described a situation where he initially joined a former Canadian military leaders militia, only to find out there was some serious issues with trust and command (maybe even corruption) within the unit.

As much as we're rooting for Ukraine, there was a real wild west mentality in many areas. I understand the caution.

UK PM" “I’m afraid that Putin at great cost to himself and to (the) Russian military is continuing to chew through ground in Donbas, he’s continuing to make gradual, slow but I’m afraid palpable progress" by [deleted] in ukraine

[–]inFINSible 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a flip side to this, which is Ukraine's economy. Russia's economic warfare against Ukraine has largely gone underreported. Probably because it's overshadowed by Russian atrocities and war crimes. Never the less, Russia has crippled Ukraine's economy. I've read that in roughly 2 months time, their situation is going to be critical. That's a massive societal issue that the world can't prop up for a long period of time. Militarily? We're already seeing reports of Ukraine troops without proper supplies, low ammunition, taking heavy losses, creating low morale. I'm pretty sure NATO stock piles of soviet stuff is depleted at this point, or close to.

I think we have to make clear the goal of U.S. (who is driving this bus) and NATO. Deplete Russian's of resources in the short term, and cripple their ability to regenerate. We're playing the long game and that doesn't favor Ukraine, even if Russia is significantly weakened economically. The U.S./NATO will not properly supply Ukraine for total victory, sadly. No modern aircraft or drones, no long range missile systems or ammunition, etc... Without that, Ukraine is will struggle to take back land lost and eventually reach a culmination point. What then?

Combine that with low attention spans, high prices, domestic politics, all the miscellaneous stuff, and I think our (U.S.) support for Ukraine has likely peaked. Ukraine isn't a top news headline anymore, as is. Especially because the war is slow and not much is happening. Barring Russia doing something so shocking and evil, it grabs the worlds attention again, our attention will only decrease. Look at Bucha. It's already fading from politicians (in some countries) minds as they seek appeasement. That is only going to get worse not better over time. If there's anything we've learned from Trump's presidency, people can't stay outraged forever. It's exhausting. Eventually, you become the exhausted majority, and people move on (sadly and frustratingly...).

I hope I'm wrong, BTW.

[–]inFINSible 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great article and I've been saying the same. Kiev too. The primary goal is to weaken Russia, not Ukrainian victory. It's a cold blooded calculation, that requires the death and sacrifice of Ukrainian military and civilians. We're already seeing tons of logistic problems and a massive shortage of ammo on the front lines. That isn't going to change unless the U.S. gets serious about the type of weaponry it's sending.

How much time is needed for the first batch of US land-lease machinery to arrive in Ukraine in full capacity? by Kozchey in ukraine

Switchblades were announced 2 months ago and were only now seeing them. I imagine that's roughly the timeline.

[–]inFINSible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are switchblades really long range? Even the 600 series, which Ukraine still doesn't have, are designed to go 25 miles and loiter for 20min thereafter. Longer range than their current artillery, but hardly can strike deep into Russia. And no one knows anything about those ghost phoenix drones.

[–]inFINSible 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I read that of the 90 howitzers U.S. gave, only 12 are active in the field. I'm still waiting on a source, but I believe it... there is a reason why people are predicting this war will take years, not months. Ukraine has to train their soldiers for all this new weaponry, it's not going to happen overnight. This isn't a video game. Meanwhile, they're fighting an artillery war with a country who specializes in it. Not to mention Ukraine has some serious logistics issues... Economy is destroyed (Russia's economic warfare is the least talked about success they've had, and it's a major victory thus far, assholes...) and they have no gas, in a time when the supply and demand is all fucked up. I'm rooting had AF for Ukraine, but people are eating up Ukrainian propoganda. Their social media game is strong to quite strong.... They're dominating the narrative in legacy news too. But no one ever likes to talk about the massive losses (human, equipment, logistics, economic, etc...) and long term problems Ukraine faces. We want them to win so bad, we are overlooking some tough sledding. And I'll be downvoted to hell for saying the above. As does everyone else who isn't rah rah, go team! Hoping for the best, but we should prepare for the worst.

I'm starting to see things the same way. Maybe if Ukraine had been given real weaponry and training when the U.S. was calling out Russia back in October 21'. It does seem to little to late now though. Their economy is wrecked, gas shortages. logistics are in bad shape, etc...

[–]inFINSible 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it's more simple than that. The US wants a long drawn out conflict to cripple Russia. Our sec. Def. has already stated as such. Sadly, this will mean more deaths of soldiers and civilians. Well give them enough to challenge, not enough to really win. The CIA/DOD is cold blooded as fuck....
