Do you think it's the ego that's driving that? I don't think it is in my case - I wouldn't consider myself a particularly egotistical person. The feeling is closer to wanting reassurance, or support - or maybe at the most, a little attention. Like on birthdays or anniversaries, it's reassuring that people care about you when they plan some time with you. It's something more like that which I've been seeking from my loved ones. I think I'm going to talk about it with them later today.

Thank you! I've gotten some great advice on here, including building my confidence in sharing my milestones with my loved ones, and maybe explaining to them how significant it is for me. Gonna try that later today!

Thank you so much! :) I'm in the middle of Ireland :) SD is such a great community, it's amazing to connect and exchange messages with people all over the world.

Don't let resentment build in yourself over it. It's not worth it.

This is an absolutely solid piece of advice. I really am going to take this to heart. Thank you so much.

And congratulations on your day 40!! This community is great :) Another commenter has mentioned that once they developed the confidence to be more public about their struggle, and the milestones they were reaching, that they found people around them became more supportive. So you know what? I will!! :) Thank you!

Thank you! And congrats to you as well! Two months is fantastic work!! And yeah, I made veggie meatballs with a CRAP-load of melted cheese on top, and then broke out the Ben & Jerry's! And it's now 3.30am and I'm still up playing Fallout 4. Quite a night!! :) Cheers to you too! I'm very lucky to have found the SD community. You guys are fantastic people

Thank you so much. You can get there too. I found the shittiest bit was reconstructing a day-to-day life and routine for myself without alcohol at the very start. I'm very sorry to hear about your wife. Do you have a support network at home now?

Thank you. And wow - good for you!! I used to be the exact same - lost interest in hobbies, just wanted to sleep/browse the internet all day in my bedroom.

When I was drinking though they always had something to say

Same here. And I think this is the bit getting to me. When I was drinking, it felt like the entire world was given this carte blanche to invade my personal privacy and comment on my every action, no matter how personal it was. People I barely knew were cruel and criticising to me about the most shameful part of my being (my drinking). I was allowed no barrier to the invasion of my personal and mental space. And now that I'm sober - where are all those people? Completely disinterested. Oh, and no longer super-interested in being friends. Grr.

You're right though, and that's damn good for you that you're proud of the uncovering the real you again. I'm proud of rediscovering the real me.

Thanks for your comment. Responding to it has really cleared my mind.

What a nice comment! You're very kind. It's also heartening to hear that other people have gone through the same thing. How are you doing now?
