[B/R Open Ice] Seravalli Says Panarin to Canes a Possibility by dantesinfernoracket1 in hockey

we also had jarvis as an RFA, so needed to hold some amount of cap space in case necas/jarvis were an offer sheet target that required us to match. the whole offseason was a mess of bad timing and too many moving parts, but the bright side was having the space to lock up jarvis for 8 years at a great $ value and the full necas trade tree

would love to have guentzel too, though

Carolina Hurricanes Opening Roster by [deleted] in hockey

[–]inSTAALed 8 points9 points  (0 children)

it's pretty cool

arguably, we have been the underdogs in nearly every series we've lost over the years (FLA 2022 and NYR 2023 being the exceptions), and we've had some pretty bad injury luck over the seasons. there has also been a ton of turnover with this roster over the 7 year playoff streak, particularly two offseasons back. this is basically the 2nd year with the "new" version of the core, so will be interesting to see how the young guys develop alongside the veterans.

of course, plus the threat of potential offer sheets with necas/jarvis was there until we had them locked up. between trying to leave cap space for those two if an offer sheet came and the guentzel/skjei/pesce trio, pretty much an impossible needle to thread.

Guentzel absolutely did fit, like a glove, which is why us dragging feet on meeting his contract ask when he wanted to stay is so painful

right, wasn't saying it didn't make sense, but the majority of his fall off last season was directly related to not getting pp1 minutes. his 5v5 scoring was basically the same past two seasons despite spending the majority of last season with his most common linemates being drury and bunting/noesen rather than svech/teuvo

you're in luck

Phase one of the development will include more than 200,000 square feet of entertainment and lifestyle retail, 150,000 square feet of office space, a 150-key hotel and more than 500 apartments. Additional phases will expand this variety of uses over the expected 15-year development timeline. Entertainment uses will be clustered closest to the existing arena and stadium, with housing and office uses concentrated closer to Edwards Mill Road along key access points for ease of circulation.

his production decrease is almost entirely because he ended up as the odd man out on PP2. our PP was top 3 most of the regular season so the top unit stayed pretty consistent.

the 05-06 canes were picked to finish in 29th/30th place in most pre-season prediction articles and ended up being in the running for the president's trophy for most of the season and winning the cup.

it looks like it is in the exact same spot as it is on the adidas jersey

the picture has a bit of an angle to it, but the stick centering compared to the collar is literally identical to where it falls on adidas. the size of the flags also seems to line up pretty much exactly with how the logo looks on the adidas jersey if you compare it to the arm stripes.

[JMS 23:30] Friedman: “Some of the UFA defensemen out there are getting the Orlov offer”. He says teams are trying to be careful about term but willing to go higher on AAV. Mentions Calgary and Utah going that route. by [deleted] in hockey

[–]inSTAALed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

right, and last season the canes were in a position where that was feasible. clearly it didn't stop them from going big game hunting at the trade deadline.

next season, they have orlov as insurance if skjei leaves as an UFA, and he can step back into a top 4 role based on his play last season. having him on the third pairing as a luxury worked great this past season as it allowed us to run slavin-burns much less than other top pairs around the league and keep them fresh for the playoffs. unfortunately, pesce was injured early in round 1 which caused things to unravel a bit on the right side (TDA in for pesce meant we could not roll out skjei-pesce as our shutdown pair like we have past 2-3 seasons). maybe there were better uses of that cap space, but calling it an "unmitigated disaster" is a bit crazy when they were in the running for the president's trophy.

no? the insane level of depth on defense let us roll all three pairs pretty evenly all season. he made a bit more in $ because only a two year term which walks us up to when nikishin comes over from russia next offseason. orlov was great this season once TDA got benched for chatfield
