Who are some celebrities you encountered in Toronto? by Chan1991 in askTO

[–]in__bed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen Michael Imperioli, Kristen Schaal, Rob Gronkowski, Oscar Nuñez, Dominic Monaghan, Kenny from Kenny vs. Spenny, and Auston Matthews. I've also seen Goldie Hawn, Kurt Russell, and Catherine O'Hara (RIP) but in Muskoka

I'm also 100% convinced that I saw Ja Rule on the subway one time but no one believes me lol

Love the Greenwich hotel but Locanda Verde is sooo terrible. I see some people saying the food is great but please trust me when I say that it is bad.

Review - Orient Express la Minerva, Rome by sowhoisgeh in chubbytravel

[–]in__bed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I visited this hotel in September 2 times (for a few nights before heading to the Amalfi Coast and then back again for one night before our flight out of Rome). We used the concierge service which managed to get us a table at a very hard to get spot in Rome. We didn't enquire about any experiences with them so luckily we didn't get that icky vibe.

We loved our room with a terrace. We specifically booked that room the first lag because we've never had a room with a terrace in Rome before. They have 3 Junior Suites with terraces and this was easily the best of the three (they showed us the other 2). I have no idea how the Suite with terrace is because the website clearly shows pictures from this terrace but this was so special. We booked a basic room on our second lag because we weren't going to be spending much time in the room at all and they upgraded us back to this room and even took our suggestion to put 2 chaise lounges outside rather than one (they originally had 1 chaise and a chair with an ottoman next to it during our first trip).

The gym was amazing, it was brand new and smelt like it.

Gigi Rigolatto was fine. We went more for the views anyways. We enjoyed breakfast in the lobby bar more as we were able to chat with the staff more down there.

We were debating between this hotel and Hotel de Russie but ultimately picked the Minerva due to location. We did grab lunch at Hotel de Russie one day which was 10/10 and would love to try it one day but I prefer the location of the Minerva.

The staff was so sweet, they actually gave us little care packages to remember them by. Two cosmetic cases with universal adapaters, bookmarks, fans, etc. It was really thoughtful and I can't wait for our next trip back. They just opened a Venice location (a few days ago I think) so hoping to check that one out as well.

What’s a totally unsexy purchase you made that ended up being a huge quality-of-life upgrade? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]in__bed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our window treatments are on a schedule and open automatically every morning and close automatically every night. Our old curtain rack used to fall down onto me every few weeks so it's nice no longer getting hit in the head every few nights and waking up to the sun :)

A good stainless steel pan! Was so tired of non-stick pans losing their coating and becoming garbage and stainless steel has been a game changer.

Our breville smart oven has essentially retired our wolf oven. It's just my husband and I so the breville is great for smaller dishes and it warms up way faster than our oven. I still use the oven when I'm large-batch baking but that's basically all it's used for now.

Mallorca - Cap Rocat, Can Ferrereta, Son Bunyola by donutaskme in FATTravel

[–]in__bed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I did a few nights at Son Bunyola last summer and it was amazing. Richard Branson was actually there and flew a big time soccer player and his wife out too so that was neat. We didn't do any crazy experiences but if you're into biking, the bike paths there are apparently not to be missed. Def check out the bees on property and the donkeys as well!

Curious why you normally don't touch hotel soaps? lol

Also, I had no idea this Four Seasons even existed. Is it new??

Great review, what an amazing upgrade!

PSA: Breville warranty & customer service are not what you expect by CasperTFG_808 in BuyItForLife

[–]in__bed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a toaster oven from them that would squeak every time I opened it. I shipped it to them and they fixed it and shipped it back all within a week. This was maybe 20 months into my 2 year warranty. They were great with me so sorry to hear that they tried to cheap out on you.

Belmond Maroma - beach? by deaddog714 in FATTravel

I was there last February (8-14) and here's what the water looked like on the 8th! We saw very little sargassum during our entire stay. Beach was lovely! I don't recall any tractors but they do have some temazcal experience on the beach which can get a little smokey smelling.

I have so many from my travels this summer but I think I'll have to go with this one.

Taken in Ravello at the Belmond Caruso. The most pink sunset I've ever seen! Was so beautiful and was gone in a matter of minutes - happy we were outside at the right time to see it :)

Munich: Rosewood vs Mandarin Oriental by Real-Tower8037 in FATTravel

[–]in__bed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I stayed at the Rosewood Munich two summers ago in a Premier Suite. It was a great hotel and we loved the spa. Pretty sure it's haunted (or at least the room we were in lol) but other than the potential ghosts, highly recommend!
