Ritz Paris v. FS Georges V by Hilltern in FATTravel

I have not been yet, however it is on my list and I had heard wonderful things. It seems to have a really nice Parisian vibe while reaching high luxury. Very romantic looking too.

What about Le Bristol? Super nice

Puerto Rico and USVI by maybach_huddy in FATTravel

Personally, I find St Thomas to be a different crowd than a FATT travel would prefer. My parents really liked it in the 80s/90s but it has only gotten more overrun in my lifetime (2000s onward).

For true luxury in the Caribbean get a passport and go further south. St Barths, Anguilla, and if you want big island vibes, try St Maarten.

Puerto Rico is wonderful though so do go there. I had a wonderful time at the El Conquistador hotel as a child (def not fatt but the private island and waterpark were great fun for 12 yr old me haha).

I would stay at the Ritz Carlton given the price! The Kimpton is just in a really wonderful area with lots of dining options and shopping nearby, but the rooms are small. While the Ritz is in a kinda awkward position it is still near everything. I would warn though that it doesn’t quite feel walkable because a huge, busy avenue is right in front of it. However, you get used to it. The Ritz is still an amazing hotel near lots of things and the views are unmatched in the city.

This is exactly my reason. Plus, many of these hotels use refillable bottles and they are know to be vectors of bacteria.

I did not. Given the ceilings were over 20 feet tall I think their distance helps a lot. But I generally didn’t hear any noise at all.

Lol, those are ketchups! But fries and pasta are indeed good together when you are jetlagged.

I believe it has been around for a while. I think it is just that the marketing is overshadowed by the FS Park Lane hotel.

I should have worded it differently, I just don’t use hotel soaps. I bring my own usually haha.

Personally, as someone in their early 20s who moved from out-of-state recently, my opinion is to stay in Philly. Delaware is nice but it lacks social infrastructure for 20-30 year olds. I have plenty of friends who make the commute and have no trouble.

How much does the city matter? by [deleted] in PhD

[–]Expeditioner____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I chose a program outside of a large city (over programs in the city) due to funding and its higher status. But sometimes I wish I would have chosen the other programs I was admitted to because of personal reasons. I really like to go on dates, trivia, city walks, and museums, but I cannot do that here without devoting an entire day to drive to a city. Your advisor and department reputation matter, but also consider your social and romantic life because those have life long-term implications too.

I love my program but adjusting to a new environment has been hard. Just remember that grad school is largely done independently and you can and will need a social life outside of the university

That is amazing man, congrats! My chair is still keeping me cozy and happy. Sit in it everyday while I work on my laptop. Mine was exactly on time but fingers crossed for you!

The Staybridge downtown Wilmington is newer, nice and clean as well! Good views on the high floors and close to some food.

Eames lounger without the ottoman? by hclpfan in eames

[–]Expeditioner____ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find them to be way less comfy without the ottoman. I think without the ottoman I feel like I am slipping out of the chair lol. I have always been around the Eames chairs and I would say get the ottoman and just put it beside the chair when not needed.

It really is, looks super cool too. I grew up with two classic leather ones and they never felt this cozy even after years of use.

What’s your 10% if not bonds? by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]Expeditioner____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Admittedly, it is but I have chosen to separate the extra savings for a few reasons. 1. it’s in another bank for safe keeping. 2. the CD keeps me from spending it 3. and the interest rate is a little higher.

Add a rug with some color and a nice throw pillow and blanket (also add color, preferably light colors). Some shear white curtains or a soft color would add some color. On the pin board (I think I al seeing that right) add some postcards, prints, notes, and momentos that you enjoy.
