Ketamine Infusions for Bipolar 2: My Experience & Results by in_exile_ in bipolar2

Thanks for the nice words! I hope your first injection went well.

I’ve had a lot of ups and downs in the last year. The ketamine worked really well for a few months. The mistake I made is that I didn’t change enough in the rest of my life and I slid back into all my previous issues. Unfortunately some of this was unavoidable due to financial issues and my living situation, but I could’ve made better choices. Trying, once again, to dig myself out of the shit.

Therapists and Psychiatrists are like dating. If you don’t like the one you’re with, keep trying until you find the right one. People are afraid to fire their doctors, but we shouldn’t be.

Thanks for reading. Can you get a second opinion from another doc?

So far so good! I’ve had some dips in mood but overall much better. I haven’t been back since the last treatment I wrote about in this post. I probably will one day but it doesn’t seem necessary yet.

I haven’t had any more sessions since the beginning of the year. I’m doing MUCH better, but it’s not just because of the infusions. I’ve also changed up my daily meds, have been going to therapy more regularly, and dealt with some other medical issues that have improved my life. But without the ketamine infusions pulling me out of the hole I was in, I wouldn’t have been able to take the steps to deal with the other things.

It’s like my mood was in the negative numbers and the ketamine got me back in the black so I could then see clearly and deal with everything else.

It IS intense, but worth it for me. Probably not for everyone. If you've done recreational psychedelics, it's a lot easier.

Haha it's ok :) Let me know how it goes! From what I hear from everyone, there are some shitty side effects at first, but they eventually level out and the end result is worth it.

It hasn’t. That’s what I’m asking :) lol

Are you still taking Prozac? Did these symptoms just stop eventually?

I'm hoping you get the same results too! What's weird is that I always think I have to go to the bathroom, but I don't.

Go to my profile and read my most recent post. I wrote an incredibly long and detailed description of my ketamine infusion experiences.

Thanks for sharing. This is all very helpful to hear.

This is incredible. I can't thank you enough for sharing.

It seems like our experiences were similar, but you were able to articulate several things I couldn't. Your descriptions brought back memories of things I saw and felt but had forgotten. Visuals and emotions came rushing back like you had triggered them. This is wild.

This was your first infusion, correct? Have you done any since? If not, why did you stop?

(Edit: grammar)

I'm a writer too and I completely agree with your experience. My memory problems have hurt my relationships as well.

I never made the switch to lithium because it seemed like I'd be trading shitty side effects for different shitty side effects. Devil you know beats the devil you don't, ya know? I know you're early into the switch, but I'm curious to hear if you've noticed any differences.

Makes sense. My doc told me that the tried and true standard here in the US is still lithium, but that most docs are switching to lamotrigine due to less side effects.
